http://www.samash.com/catalog/showitem.asp?itemid=65833&sourcetype=singleitemsearch

http://namm.harmony-central.com/WNAMM05/Content/Epiphone/PR/Nick-Valensi-Riviera.html

basically 5ply instead of now laminated and nickel hardware

But the dude wants a semi-hollow. If I were in the market for a semi-hollow, I'd get that new Gibson 336. :fucku:

Jackson made a semi-hollow arch-top for like 5 seconds around 2002...what was the series called? Artcore, or some shit?
Didn't last very long...I'm not really a fan of Hollowbodies, but I'd most likely get a Gibson if I was...
And if you're going with the Epiphone for budgetary reasons, I don't think I'd get the one with P-94 pickups, either...

well first off i can see why people dont like epiphone and i tend to agree that sometimes the instruments just fall apart like my g 400 i had. main reasons i like the guitar is i think it looks good and im a fan of the strokes and thats the main guitarist guitar. never owned a semi hollow either but the band im playing in plays a little on the soft side and i think it will suit. i never have been a fan of jackson guitars either or maybe just havent played one i like. but yeah

Some of the higher end Epiphones are actually better quality than their Gibson counterparts. I have a Epi Jack Casady Signature bass and it's great. Jack wanted Gibson to reissue the Les Paul Model he used and all the press forms and dies had been shipped to Korea and Gibson asked if it was ok that Epiphone made the guitar. Fine. He spend two years working on the pickup with Gibson engineers but the guitar was made in Korea on old Gibson equipment from the US. Some Ephiphones are made in Japan.

It's the Gibson company. Not everything made in the USA is good either. I played a Ace Frehley Gibson Les Paul that had unfinished frets and sharp fret ends. Gibson is the only company I know you can spend $2,000 on a guitar with bad fretwork.

It's a wierd company, because their quality control is so hit and miss and they can have a great product but the company acts like it doesn't give a ratt's ass. Plus the way they extort their dealers to floor X amount of inventory is crap.

Gibson as a company is a suck ass stew.

If you are buying an epiphone, play it first! Usually the electronics are shit but on my Jack casady they are as good as a regular Gibson. So it's all about the model and Jack actually gigs with his so maybe Epiphone spends and extra dollar per pot so he doesn't bitch. Who knows.

i would love to play it first thing is they dont have it anywhere!!!!! but of course id make sure if i bought it that i could return it if i did not like it.

Actually, MOST major instrument manufacturers want X amount of floor space in the big chains, that's annoying, but not so unusual...
What I couldn't stomach as a guitar salesman back in the day was trying to pitch someone on a $6k guitar that had such shitty hardware on it that they WOULD NOT STAY IN TUNE FOR SHIT.
I could/would not try to rationalize spending THAT much on a guitar and still having to change out the tuners when ya got it home to someone....
Or having to throw in a set of Sperzels to close the deal..
And yes, I recall their QC being a crapshoot at the time, too...

Hey Jimi-
Question, since Gibson's quality control was brought up in this thread:
Did you have to change any hardware on that when you got it, or did you get a functional as well as beautiful one out of the box? ;)

What about Gretsch ??

http://www.gretsch.com/guitars/index.html

I would grab one of these hollow bodied geetars
over the gibsons anyday..
(If I wanted hollow body)

Also, what about a semi hollow body Tele ??

I was going to say *almost* the same thing -- if $ was no object, I'd go Gibson (well...maybe I'd make an exception for a vintage White Falcon..)...

Gretsch certainly offers much more bang for the buck, although I'm not too sure of their Q/C since Fender took over production and distribution a few years back (even though the Gretsch family still owns the company).

Check out this '06 Tennessee Special w/ Bigsby on Craigslist L.A.

i bought one of these. it was only £200 quid so thought what the fuck. Turns out its one of the lowest action semi's ive ever played and the necks awesome. The pups are a bit muddy but for £200 theyre easily replaced

Over a year ago I was standing in the middle of my local Guitar Center holding both a Gibson EB3

http://img3.musiciansfriend.com/dbase/pics/products/2/0/4/230204.jpg

and an Epi EB3

http://img3.musiciansfriend.com/dbase/pics/products/7/0/9/274709.jpg

I really was there to pick out a Gibson. Then I played both through a really nice SVT rig. They both felt the same. Same thin neck, same weight. Then I looked at the trapazoid fretwork on the Epi. and then I noticed the extra knob. Yeah...the Gibson has volume for both pickups, but only tone for one...the Epi has both AND a selector switch. I was sold on that and really started looking them over. I asked the salesgirl if I could pop off the back and look at the wire work and pots. They both appeared to be using the same wiring and the solder jobs were looking good on both as well. The Gibson retailed for a little over 1000.00 and either way they were throwing in a case. The Epi...300.00. I really wanted a white one too. I told them that I wanted to sleep on it and get back with them. They see me enough so they knew I'd be back.

Later that day I went back and took the red Epi and an Ampeg BA115 all for way under the 1000.00 the Gibson was gonna cost me. The only gripe I have with it is the strap locks...they're in a really weird place that took me a LONG time to get used to.

I mirror what Nitro stated a few posts ago. You can get wrapped up in a name and think that its all that and a bag of chips, but even Gibson kicks shit out the door that should be scrapped. If you can cherry pick and know what you like you'll find it. You have to know what you want.

My Epiphone Tony Iommi Signature SG is awesome...

Sure it has some finish imperfections and the action sucked out of the box, but after I put the finishing touches on it, it couldn't be better...

Well, yes it could...

I might put a black Kahler on it...

I would suggest this for half the price $299.99. I've play one and it played just as nice as any Gibson or Epi similar models.

Yup!

Me too...

I have four Agiles among my collection of Stratocasters and various other lefty's and I love 'em...

The finish on each Agile I have is beautiful and the quality is very consistant...

I'm pretty sure I suggested Agile guitars and Rondo Music (http://www.rondomusic.com/electricguitar.html) to DLRdelight! in the past...

BS1, did you ever pick one up ??

fuck those are some good ass prices!!!

now are they good??? anywhere to try them out???

now i know epiphone can be a big let down but as i have mentioned im a fan of the strokes and what not.

ive been thinking of getting a fender deville because i just love their clean tone and i can get a better distortion if i need it with my stomp boxes. was thinking of trading in my windslor head for it but not sure about the 5150 cab

well elvis ive decided i need a better amp than the one channel windslor running through a 5150 cab for better clean and what not.

been looking at the fender deville 2 12. just like its clean tone and the band im in is going to record a demo in november.

think of sounds like ummmm...the strokes, foos, alternative type stuff.

small budget as well any thoughts?

DLRdelight!
10-20-2007, 02:46 AM
i forgot to add that i need a better amp before another guitar. right now i use my jaguar mostly for what im playing in right now and my wolfgang here and there.

i just feel like the deville has the right clean sound i like because couple bands that really like use them and i love to play them. but still need to try out some distortion pedals on them

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-Hot-Rod-Deluxe-Amp?sku=480510

dont know why im hung on the deville though. hundred bux more if i was to get a new one.

A friend played through my Deville 4x10 at his party a few nights ago. He was on before me, and I think it was the first time I'd ever heard my amp played by someone else at any kind of serious volume. What a freakin' cool sound. Another friend of mine agreed, too. The Devilles just cut right through. Really cool.

Not a fan of the OD channel(s) on it, but I have a great pedal for that stuff.

Wise purchase there, DLRdelight!

lol nah elvis she aint like that. but i went to get my jaguar and was just playing the deville. man that thing is perfect. now i just have to get rid of the hum that damn guitar makes

ELVIS
10-23-2007, 01:12 AM
I already told you what to do about that, I thought...

Yeah man, the deville is nice, loud too...

I'll bet you find it seems every bit as loud as the Windsor...

I play stereo through two 40 watt Deluxes and it's plenty loud for almost anything...

If I need more, I still have two vintage Marshall Half Stacks in perfect working order...;)

ELVIS

One more thing i'll tell ya...

One of my Deluxes has the Eminence speaker as found in your amp...

My other two have Celestion Vintage 30's and the difference is amazing...

I would change 'em ASAP if I were you...

Dude, get off yer underage girlfriend and give me some FEEDBACK!!

My advice is comes with a price...;)

DLRdelight!
10-23-2007, 06:20 PM
lol sorry man just been a busy past couple of days. well yeah i would get the celestian speakers but money is now on the low thanks to the amp. but i know i can order like 4 from that avatar speakers or amp site whatever it is for a much cheaper price....even though i would only need two. and i think you did tell me what to do aout the hum but i dont remember so if you can help again.

and yes it seems to be as loud if not louder than my windslor/5150 combination i had. downfall of the windslor was it had only one channe. i was really low on cash and all i was thinking about was distortion sound like eds. the deville has a great clean sound and with my boss me 50 i can get any type of distortion sound i want from it. i actually really like the overdrive channels the amp has. great for classic rock led zep type stuff.

eight now i think i want to get a chorus pedal. the one on my me 50 is really good but i tried the electroharmonix one and it sounded great through a deluxe.

but yeah that hum has got to go
