The Police WHERE a great band for the time. I can't stand Sting and his arrogance. Stewart Copeland is one of the most interesting drummers I've heard and Andy Summers is a talented guitarist.

Cheap Trick is great. I had a cousin who was Jessica Simpson hot and she came home with a Cheap Trick T shirt because they had gone to a concert. Her dad (my uncle) hit the fucking roof going you know what Cheap Trick means? Holy hell, you're advertising yourself as a prostitute! LOL!

I have room for both The Police AND Cheap Trick.

They're 2 totally different bands.

The Police bring a Ska/Punk influence to the table with memorable lyrics.

Cheap Trick hammers the senses with 4 competent musicians that have honed their craft to a razor perfection.

I've seen Cheap Trick open up for AC/DC and I've seen AC/DC open up for Cheap Trick. I've seen Cheap Trick in a bar for 4.00 cover charge. I've seen them for free with a Shell purchase card at the old Pine Knob. I had a chance to meet them all when I worked at Malibu Grand Prix as a kid. Their tourbus pulled up as we were closing and they knocked on the glass and talked to our manager. All of us knew who they were and within moments they had the entire complex to themselves. I'll never forget Rick tear assing through the track and damn near almost went through the fence onto I-4!. I've seen them at Ribfests and will continue to catch them wherever they play. No matter wherever I've seen them they play like there's no tomorrow. They give 110% no matter how big or small of a crowd they're in front of.

The Police, I've seen with 200 people at Disney World before they hit it huge and I've caught them on the Syncronicity tour. Their double entendre lyrics glossed over with infections bass and drumming made Andy Summers appear almost God-like in his playing. I caught Sting on his 1st and 2nd solo tour always looking forward to the end of the show when he'd HAVE to play The Police songs.

2 bands that rose about the same time and took 2 different directions in their paths to Rock N Roll immortality. Being forced to choose between the 2...naw, I ain't gonna do it. I'll take 'em both!

I met Cheap Trick some years ago. Rick Neilsen is a God to me but was really a dick in person. Tom Petersson was a really nice guy and we bullshitted about guitars and amplifiers for quite some time. I just love that band.

I like Cheap Trick, but wow, comparing them to the Police is like comparing Aerosmith to Grand Funk Railroad

Oh man cheap trick was the biggest thing for me like in 8th grade or something. It was always about Van Halen and then them. Those were like my two favorite bands. I think I might go see them the next time around.

Am with DrMaddVibe on this one.

Think the bands are more dissimilar than alike, so I listen to them both for different things...

The Police were astounding. Sadly, the one time I got to see them live was on the Synchronicity tour, when me and my 8th grade buds older sister and her friend got some extra tix and took us. The show was a little bit underwhelming, mostly in comparison to all the killer shows I got to see from 1983 to 1985, but even for the Police themselves that tour was a bit more structured and by the numbers than the ones that had come before. The show didn't suck, but the band was so overhyped by that point that anything short of the Second Coming was gonna be a letdown.

Cheap Trick I never got to see live, and kinda didn't bother with them for years after 1988. About 5 years ago, went out and scooped up a bunch of the older stuff on CD and it reminded me what a great, straight up pop rock band they were, and I realized I really didn't appreciate them as much as I could have back in the day.

'VS'? What's the point? Two great bands.

Sting is more than a bit of a pompous assclown, though. His solo career became one of gradual disinterest for me after his first two solo releases. Right up there with Eddie V of Pearl Jam and Bono for me; I like many of the tunes they have sung, but got tired of the preachy interviews all of them gave VERY quickly. If they all want to stick their heads between their legs, queef and then prattle on about how great their pissflap farts smell, fine. Am just not interested in reading about it.

Gotta go with Cheap Trick. I spent endless hours practicing their shit on guitar in high school. The Police did some good shit, too - playing Ghost In The Machine in my Walkman is probably what kept my sanity during basic training in the early 80's - but Sting is such an insufferable little prick, I wouldn't drop a dime of coin to go see him preening about onstage.

Unless it was a sure bet Copeland would finally give him the ass-beating he always deserved. I'd give a full paycheck for that carnival show :D

I got into Cheap Trick as a direct result of some of the posters on this site. Boy am I glad I did, one of the most incredible bands EVER.

Few people even come close to this band, and The Police just can't compete, IMO.

Got to say Cheap Trick. But The Police were pretty much ok. But Sting is such a pussy

They should sell a shirt that says "ON TOUR FOREVER." They've always stuck to the general plan as well...worked with George Martin....even brought their former bass player onstage!!!....during a 25 year anniversary concert!!!

Go steal that DVD!!

The Police have the musical talent.
Sting is an incredible singer/song writer.
Not my favorite band but still good.

Cheap Trick for sure.

They still have it, even after all these years.
Have you heard their latest disc "Rockford"? If not then it's a must listen. The guys haven't missed a beat.
