Eyewitness News has just learned that singer Robert Goulet has died. The legendary star of stage, screen, television and recordings, was suffering from a rapidly progressive pulmonary fibrosis.

It is a condition that is most often fatal without a lung transplant.

His wife of 25 years, Vera Goulet, was holding his hand until his last breath. He is survived by his wife, his two sons Christopher and Michael, his daughter Nicolette, and his two grandchildren Jordan and Solange.

Details of his memorial service will be released at a later date.

You probably knew this was coming. For what it's worth? I've been trying to buy an old Gretsch just like that one...from another person that's fixin' to die for awhile now!!!

How old was he?

Don't know a great deal about the man, but I dug him from Naked Gun 2 1/2 and his guest appearance on The Simpsons singing "Jingle Bells" in Bart's Treehouse Casino.

RIP, Mr Goulet.

I think he was 73, but hardly looked it. Pity, you have to admire a guy that has a good sense of humor about himself...
