vP 2 Goes For R Rating

The directors of Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem screened 10 minutes of previously unseen footage in Los Angeles on Nov. 4 and told SCI FI Wire that they went for the R rating, unlike the previous installment's PG-13.

Brother directors Colin and Greg Strause showed parts of the final battle sequence at the Los Angeles Comic Book and Science Fiction Convention to about 200 fans, who whooped and applauded in appreciation. The filmmakers answered questions for about an hour and spent a second hour signing autographs.

"This is definitely going to be R-rated," Greg Strause said. "We didn't want to look like we were holding back."

The sneak peek showed a few new weapons used by the Predator, as well as the brutality of the alien. Heads got blown off, women got skewered, and aliens popped out of people's chests. In the footage, one character even dropped an F-bomb.

The directors added that they have gone back to the ridged-back design of the alien familiar to fans of James Cameron's Aliens. "The sleeker back may have looked good while in space, but the ridged back looks better when they're down here on Earth," Colin Strause said.

The Strause brothers are special-effects masters who have worked on X-Men: The Last Stand, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and Fantastic Four; AvP: Requiem marks their feature-film directorial debut. The sequel is being released by 20th Century Fox on Christmas Day.

Oh, fucking hell...

AvP sucked. Sucked big-time. Was looking forward to that crossover flick in a big way, and the whole biz screwed the fucking pooch.

But being the useless fuckwit I am, looks like I'm going to waste $10 to go see the sequel.

Upside is my expectations for this are subzero, so it just has to be slightly subpar for me to consider it decent.

I saw something some weeks ago like Aliens and Predators try to destroy each other in Small Town USA.

Reminds me of The Blob, where the old farmer goober pokes the meteorite with a stick, and the blob gets on his arm. Next thing you know, he is dinner.

Well, in the blob's case, more like "slime".

I can see it now.

Old fogey's dawg is barking it's fool head off out behind the barn, suddently yelps and all is quiet.

Farmer Bob goes out with his shotgun and a shitty flashlight which conveniently dies as he gets to the rear of the barn.

Close-up of farmers face in the darkness, as 3 laser beams appear on his forehead, he gets surprised look on his face, but is suddenly implaed by an alien which sneaks up behind him.

I also will go. In the misguided hope that it might somehow be better than the first AvP.

AvP, as a concept, has so much potential. The idea of Aliens on Earth is a good one...about the only reason I hope there is an Alien 5...but AvP puts them on Earth in freakin' Antarctica in some underground maze...pretty much like, um, what's the fuckin' point of having them BE on Earth if you're gonna put them on the least populated continent, and THEN stick them underground for good measure?

AvP2...oy vey! Fuck it, I'm going to see it, so suppose there's no point bitching about it.

Well, the point was Ripley trying to keep aliens from getting to Earth in the first place in all those Alien movies...wouldn't have been much sense in it if she'd known that aliens had been there on Earth for hundreds of years.

The fact that aliens and predators had been visiting on Earth in a virtually lifeless area, so that nobody knew they were there per se, made sense and made Alien (and Predator) hold with continuity in that sense. They were here, sure, but nobody really knew about it and anybody that would have known about it certainly wouldn't have been listened to. If anybody WOULD have listened to them, it would have been a secret to make any previous government cover up look like child's play by way of comparison.

I loved AvP, actually. On it's own two feet, I thought it was an outstanding movie as a stand alone feature. Special effects were great, didn't waste a lot of time with needless subplots or dialogue, just a lot of action, explosions and killings. Perfect popcorn movie, if not the greatest thing ever put to film. I definitely ranked it above Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection...I was tired as shit of Sigourney Weaver and both franchises really needed a good kick in the ass, anyway...

Only "meh" moment I had during AvP was the Predalien thing at the end...thought that was kinda stupid...but overall, I had no complaints. Looking forward to the sequel for sure...

I think they need to make a movie called Alien vs. Santa Clause, where elves get eaten alive and mangled horribly by Aliens, and at the end a baby alien busts out of Santa's chest!

Kinda enjoyed Alien3, myself.

Alien Ressurrection was a waste of film.

Best parts of AvP were (obviously) the battle scenes between the creatures. Sadly, some of them were so poorly lit that I had trouble figuring out what was happening.

Will agree that by the time of the 4th installment, Weaver's presence wasn't adding much.

Suppose I'm just taking it too seriously. I mean, I didn't have this kind of critical reaction when I saw Godzilla vs King Kong...

Well, the sad thing about Alien Resurrection was that it looked REALLY promising on paper...unfortunately, the Alien/Ripley/Who's Yer Mama nonsense (and that absurd love scene, I guess you'd call it) really trashed it.

On the plus side, though, Wynona had a big brown beaver... :D

The one thing I thought cool about Alien Resurrection was just thinking of Sigourney and Winona having a lesbian lickfest!!!

*me drools at the thought*

The Ripley/Alien Queen hybrid baby in Ressurrection was just laughable.

Weaver and Ryder going down on each other is enticing.

Undoubtedly the black cooze in AvP sucked off the Predator.

Am off to play Stab The Pumkpin, then watch Borat. Not that anyone gives a fuck, but there you go.

Bah.

Who the fuck am I kidding?

There are some film franchises and rock groups out there where it's just a given I'm gonna scoop up whatever poop is released.

I should just accept my fate, pull out the wallet and enjoy.
