On November 25, 2007, it was reported on The Vegas Eye website that Kevin DuBrow was found dead in his apartment that day. No further information was provided.[2]. Drummer Frankie Banali confirmed the death in an email to Spain's The Metal Circus.[3]Benali wrote:

"Please respect my privacy as I mourn the passing and honor the memory of my dearest friend Kevin DuBrow."

Y'know, Kevin had his ups and downs, but Quiet Riot was the first metal band out of L.A. to get signed, then hit #1. After that all the labels headed to lalaland to scoop up every single band on the strip and cash in. He has made a big mark in music. Not to mention his association with Randy R.... His vocals were iffy, and had a big mouth, but I, for one, am sad a bit. RIP Kev.

Don't really care for any Quiet Riot aside from the original lineup, but DuBrow was part of that. And 52 is too young to go.

Funny thing is though, I can't find any confirmation of this story, apart from blogs and less than credible tabloid sites like Metal Sludge and Blabbermouth. Hope it's not some fucking hoax.

Grating, irritating, and arrogant.

Those are the three words that come to my mind when I think of Kevin DuBrow.

But it's ashame he died. I'll be interested to hear the circumstances.

I own a copy of "Metal Health"...and it's still lying around somewhere. I might have to throw it on for sentimental reasons.

Well, Kevin DuBrow has been a GREAT guy in recent years. He might have been an asshole before. But c'mon. We're on a David Lee Roth site. That shouldn't matter.

My heart sank when I saw this headline earlier today. Man, I was just thinking abou thim yesterday! I've been listening to a lot of Quiet Riot recently, and have been checking their sites a lot to see if they'd add tour dates. I wanted to see them so bad! Now I'll never get to.

This is so sad for me.

Back in 8th grade our school held a dance in honor of us going to high school. Metal Health must've played 40 times that night.
My favorite boy (he wouldn't ask me "out") loved Quiet Riot. They were his favorite band.

Still to this day when I hear Quiet Riot I think of that boy.

Dammit. I'm gonna miss that music. I didn't know how much it meant to me until now.

Quiet Riot singer Kevin DuBrow died Sunday, drummer Frankie Banali confirmed in a post on his Web site. DuBrown was 52 years old and the official cause of his death has yet to be determined.

"I can't even find words to say," Banali wrote. "Please respect my privacy as I mourn the passing and honor the memory of my dearest friend Kevin DuBrow."

DuBrow's body was discovered on Sunday inside the rocker's Las Vegas home. According to those close to the singer, DuBrow celebrated his birthday last month in New Orleans and seemed to be in good health. Quiet Riot bassist Kelly Garni has asked fans to be patient for details on the singer's death.

"I ask this to all of you not only for myself but for other friends and family," Garni wrote, in a message posted to a Web site honoring the memory of Quiet Riot founding member Randy Rhoads. "I ask that no one here offer any speculation or opinions, theories or other things that could be construed as negative or, and I'm sorry for this, even sympathetic, right at this immediate time. I am already, within hours of this, having to deal with untrue rumors and speculation and that only adds fuel to that. There is a tendency for the subject of Kevin to incite flames on every board, and now is not the time for that. I will explain to everyone here the facts and the truth in the next 24 to 48 hours as I realize this will affect us all. So please, until then, be patient. All details and other pertinent info will be passed on to you here when it becomes available to me."

Bill Chavis, owner of Chavis Records, the label that issued Quiet Riot's last LP, 2006's Rehab, also confirmed the news.

"DuBrow's body was found by friends on Sunday, November 25, in his Las Vegas home," reads the label's site. "As I mourn his death with a heavy heart, I will remember hearing his voice and the music for the very first time on the radio back in 1983. I will remember all the great music Kevin and Quiet Riot gave to so many of us over the years and I will say, 'Thank you, Kevin. May you rest in peace.' "

Credited with helping to launch the 1980s glam-metal scene, Quiet Riot are perhaps best known for their cover of Slade's "Cum on Feel the Noize," which appeared on 1983's Metal Health and eventually peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album was the first by a metal band to reach the chart's #1 position.

They played up here at a lodge a few years back...sold less than 30 tickets and by the time the show was over, there were less than 10 people left...but he kept up the performance like it was 20,000 strong. Pretty amazing when you consider that.

Sad news.

So true, though a few members of my graduating class are now convinced I made some sort of deal with Belezbozo back in the day or something....

I'm getting more bummed out about Kev as the day goes on...Few know that under his gruff exterior, he was actually kind of a sweetheart at times...

Hopefully he's somewhere chillin' with Randy Rhoads right now....

Played Metal Health more than a few times back in the day.

Saw Quiet Riot open up for Black Sabbath in 1983. Was just as Cum On Feel The Noize was starting to climb up the charts. Riot didn't play particularly well and didn't go over well, either.

Suppose one has to give DuBrow and the band their due: Metal Health was a monster-selling album. Never really thought QR were heavy metal, though (in spite of the 1983 album title and title track).

Wouldn't be astonished to find out it was a cocaine overdose. QR and DuBrow were all done by the time QRIII came out, and that was...what...two decades ago, but suppose it's just bad form to post ill of the dead.

So long, you vocally challenged, hairpiece flaunting, Roth wannabe. The sun finally set on this soul on the run.

Hearing the news today totally freaked me out .

I woke up Saturday morning and the first thought of the day was that Kevin Dubrow had died. I couldn't figure why . Didn't think too much about it anyway until I heard the news today. Not a word of a lie. That the mother fuckin truth , I swear....

I was sufring the radio today while I ate my lunch when I heard "Cum on feel the Noise" so I left it on. When the song finished the DJ announced the news of his passing. It was fuckin surreal.

52 is far too young to die. I read an interview he did a couple of years ago where he said he did a fair amount of blow back in the day but he gave it up many years ago. He said he now lives (lived) a healthy lifestyle. Poor fucker probably died of an anyeurism.

Saw Q.R. open for black Sabbath back in '83 on Sabbath's "Born Again" tour. I thought they sounded much better in concert than on record . They put on a good show.
But that ESP or premonition shit freaks me out.

Now, if I can only dream the winning numbers for Saturday nights lottery........

That's freaky. I had something similar happen. I had a dream about two nights before his death was announced. In the dream, I was going to New York. I parked the car in a big lot, probably on the NJ side, but I'm not sure. It's not important. Anyway, I get back to the car and I notice somehting is wrong. I see that the car was broken into. I look inside and find some music is missing. I yell something like, "Fuckers stole my Quiet Riot!"

I like to try to interpret dreams (I don't fret over it, but it's something to do) and I couldn't figure this one out until I heard the unfortunate news. It made perfect sense then. He was stolen from us.

I killed Roy Orbison the same way. Never cared one way another about the man, but to this day, I feel so bad for doing it.

Last week, some friends I hadn't seen in a long time out of the blue said they thought I must've loved Quiet Riot. Dunno why. Kinda strange reading about this so soon after they said that.

I did love them at one time. Saw them open for Maiden in '83. They were excellent! (...much better than Lauren Harris:rolleyes: )

My high school had this stupid thing where the graduating class picked a song to represent them. Mine picked QR's "Winners Take All." Song sucks, but at least it was from a fairly heavy band instead of something like Scritti Politti.

Bad news. RIP, to the man with the mouth like an alligator.

"He was one of the best singers rock has ever seen," said Blackie Lawless, singer-bassist of the L.A. extreme-metal band WASP, contacted Tuesday while on tour in Germany. "He had a voice like a razor blade that just cut right through you. And that voice is now silent."

"He was one of the first people I ever met when I came to L.A.," said Lawless, adding that he'd kept up the acquaintance for 32 years. "Kevin and I had a unique kinship, because our styles were similar, and we were both the same age. The third gig I ever played in L.A. was with him and Quiet Riot, when [guitarist Randy Rhoads] was still in the band."

"Quiet Riot [was] the first real MTV rock band," Lawless observed. "I always used to tell everybody that when people write rock 'n' roll encyclopedias, you'll see your '64 British invasion, the '56 Elvis chapter and the '69 Haight-Ashbury chapter -- well, L.A. will have its own '82-'83 chapter, and Quiet Riot would really be the beginning of that chapter."

The life of Quiet Riot singer Kevin DuBrow, who died at age 52 over the weekend in Las Vegas, had not been on a completely even keel after he'd broken up this month with his girlfriend of more than seven years, Las Vegas television personality and KXPT-FM radio DJ Lark Williams, according to friends saddened Monday by the news of his death.

Nevertheless, "his mood the last couple of months was stable," said former Deep Purple bassist and singer Glenn Hughes, who said he had communicated with DuBrow several times a week since they had become reacquainted after a 2001 performance by Hughes in Las Vegas. "He did not sound agitated or paranoid or anything at all -- he was just normal Kevin," Hughes said. He added that Quiet Riot's recent tour had gone well.

Williams said she didn't think DuBrow had any health problems. "He was as strong as an ox, that boy. He ate well, took a lot of vitamins. He worked out, and of course when he performed it was quite a workout," she said Tuesday from Las Vegas. "He never looked better." She said she had last communicated with him about a week ago by text message, with no indications that anything was awry.

As of Tuesday, the Las Vegas police were not investigating the death as a suspicious one. Samantha Charles, the communications officer with the Clark County coroner's office, said that an autopsy was performed Monday on DuBrow and that official determination of the cause of death would depend on results of toxicology tests, which could take six to 12 weeks.

"With everything that's happening," Williams said, "I'm just trying to take care of Kevin's cats."

He had two of them. Said Hughes: "He was crazy about those cats," and Williams agreed -- she said she and DuBrow had picked them out together.

DuBrow was a regular guest at Hughes' ocean-adjacent Los Angeles home. "He was truly like a little brother to me," Hughes said by phone Tuesday. "He was a very, very sweet, generous, kind, sensitive man. Loud and proud, yes, we all know about that, but there was a very personal side to Kevin that I will miss very, very dearly." Hughes helped write the songs on Quiet Riot's 2006 album, "Rehab," and was working on material for DuBrow's next project.

"There's a myth, I guess, if you're a rock 'n' roller, and you're of an age, you're a partyer," said Hughes, his proper English upbringing sounding in his voice. "But I can report that I never saw Kevin out of control, ever."

Hughes said that the residence in which DuBrow's body was discovered Sunday belongs to DuBrow's mother. The Quiet Riot singer lived alone, Hughes noted, and enjoyed the bachelor life, a predilection that contributed to his split with Williams, a tall blond with a photo-op figure who had helped DuBrow try to adopt a healthier lifestyle in recent years.

DuBrow was expected to fly in Friday night for a party at Hughes' house but uncharacteristically had not been in contact for a week. When he didn't show up or respond to messages, Hughes called Williams on Sunday to ask that authorities investigate.

DuBrow led Quiet Riot to the top of the charts in 1983 with the group's hit "Cum on Feel the Noize," which propelled the group's third album, "Metal Health," to sales of more than 6 million copies.

Times staff writer Geoff Boucher contributed to this report.

In Glenn Hughes comments, he said Kevin respected Glenn's sobriety and that Kevin wanted to make some life changes. Makes me say that kevin might have had a drug problem. If it was suicide, I can somehow understand. You have your moment of glory, are on top of world ever so briefly, and then life just passes you by and basically forgets you. It must be tough to always chase that lost fortune and fame while seeing your peers do better, or be in the same boat and then strike it once again. plus throw on top the fact that the music biz is full of no talent hacks who sell and make millions. Maybe Kevin should've looked into becoming a moderator here at the Roth Army. Just look what its done to Kip Winger's self-esteem! He used to just be down-trodden, now he likes to fight over the internet. It would've given Kevin some sort of reason to keep on going on.

Rudy Sarzo Remembers Kevin DuBrow

November 29, 2007

Greg Prato, N.Y. (http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003679093)

http://www.dsherwood-guitartuition.co.uk/quietriot.jpg

Rudy Sarzo and Kevin DuBrow's musical relationship stretched across four decades in Quiet Riot. With the news of DuBrow's passing still only a few days old, Sarzo offered some insight into the singer who many consider responsible for setting off the '80s pop metal movement.

Sarzo and DuBrow first met in the '70s, and played together with late guitarist Randy Rhoads in an early version of Quiet Riot. "He started as a photographer. He had a massive mid-'70's rock'n'roll photo collection," Sarzo tells Billboard.com. "He started out by taking a lot of pictures of people like Humble Pie."

But it will undoubtedly be DuBrow's work with Quiet Riot, namely their chart-topping 1983 U.S. debut, "Metal Health," for which the singer will be best remembered. In fact, the album's success awarded DuBrow an opportunity to meet his hero.

"He was a huge Steve Marriott fan. If there was anybody that Kevin would say 'I try to sing like,' it would be Steve Marriott," Sarzo says. "As a matter of fact, one of the highlights for him, back in 1983 I believe, we did a show in El Paso, Texas. The promoter said, 'Who do you want to be on the bill with you guys?' And he requested Humble Pie. So we got Humble Pie on the bill, and Steve Marriott jammed with us. It was a dream come true for Kevin. There was a party after the show; Steve Marriott actually had an even louder, bigger personality than Kevin."

Even after Sarzo and Rhoads left Quiet Riot and joined Ozzy Osbourne's band, their friendship with DuBrow continued. "When I joined Ozzy Osbourne, I was still living with Kevin. Every time Randy and I would get off the road from an Ozzy tour, we got off the airplane and went straight to Kevin's, and just hang out with him," he says.

Despite some turbulence in their friendship, Sarzo remembers the singer fondly. "Kevin always enjoyed life -- he enjoyed partying and everything that rock'n'roll brought," he says. "He had the scream that kicked open the door for the generation of early '80s metal. I've been getting a lot of condolences, and everybody has one thing in common - the influence of that 'Metal Health' record. [It] just inspired a whole generation. He was a true rock'n'roll fan."

I think the rockstar for rockstar sake type people have a real hard time dealing with their post big stardom years. Kevin has PARTY! written all over his face even in his older years.

I would say the rock musicians who are into it for music more than partying seem to evolve. Not all of them but take a guy like Jeff "Skunk" Baxter. He partied, did drugs played in rock and roll bands but he was a curiouse, evolving musician at heart. He later did studio work and is now a deffense consultant for the govt. Talk about an amazing person who just kept going even when the wild party came to an end.

Back in the mid 90's Quiet Riot played at this tiny bar here on the bayou, south of New Orleans. It was when they had just reformed with the lineup of Dubrow, Frankie Banali, Rudy Sarzo and Carlos Cavazo.

The band was super cool, especially Carlos. I forget the exact details, but Carlos borrowed my vintage Marshals that night, a '73 Super Lead and a '69 Super Bass. His guitar sound was awful (I have no idea how he got my amps to sound so bad :D) but Carlos himself was one of the nicest, totally non-ego "famous" guitarists i'd ever met. We hung out on the tour bus for a couple hours while we talked guitar and he showed me some cool vintage guitars and one of his (somewhat) "famous" Hamers...

I wish I could say kevin was cool as all these stories suggest, but he wasn't. He shook my hand and dissappeared to the back of the bus.

I was never a big fan, but it was cool hanging with a band I grew up with...

RIP Kevin...:(

One year ago, this story could have easily have been about Eddie Van Halen. Thank God (or Dave, or Wolf) for getting Ed to climb out of the abyss.

Quiet Riot played at 4th & B in San Diego in 97 or 98. A coworkers uncle owned the place and she scored me free tickets....18 free tickets. I called a bunch of people and had them all bring a couple more. Still had 1 unused ticket left. Gave it to a guy as he was approaching the ticket booth. Awesome show anyways. Maybe 300 people there max. The place holds 1500.

I thought the song "Metal Health" was great for KB..
Until then I felt he really was just an imitator, not
an innovator... That song was great, and all his own..
(Im assuming he wrote the lyrics/melodies)

I kinda thought QR sucked though as I was
old enough to still remember Slade....

Randy was totally undercooked in that gig...

QUIET RIOT Singer Died Of Cocaine Overdose - Dec. 10, 2007

The Associated Press reports that the death last month of Kevin Dubrow, lead singer for the 1980s heavy metal band QUIET RIOT, has been ruled an accidental cocaine overdose.

Clark County coroner spokeswoman Samantha Charles confirmed the cause Monday (December 10) after toxicology results were received.

Dubrow was found dead Nov. 25 at his Las Vegas home. He was 52.

QUIET RIOT was perhaps best known for its 1983 cover of "Cum on Feel the Noize". The song, featuring Dubrow's powerful, gravelly voice, appeared on the band's album "Metal Health" — which was the first by a metal band to reach No. 1 on the Billboard chart.

DuBrow recorded a solo album in 2004, "In for the Kill", and the band's last studio CD, "Rehab", came out in October 2006.
