Looks like "Kaptain Robbie" will have to carry on the legacy of crazy motorcycle stunts.

R.I.P. Evel...you were an exciting part of my youth.

Anyone else have one of these toys growing up?

Evel Knievel Dies at 69
By MITCH STACY, AP
CLEARWATER, Fla. —
Evel Knievel, the hard-living motorcycle daredevil whose exploits made him an international icon in the 1970s, died Friday. He was 69.
Knievel's death was confirmed by his granddaughter, Krysten Knievel. He had been in failing health for years, suffering from diabetes and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, an incurable condition that scarred his lungs.
Knievel had undergone a liver transplant in 1999 after nearly dying of hepatitis C, likely contracted through a blood transfusion after one of his bone-shattering spills.

I'm pretty surprised he lasted this long, to be honest...

Evil carried ABC's Wide World of Sports in the '70's, especially with the Snake River Canyon jump.... I was sure he was dead when it went down in the canyon....

Agree with both of you guys.

Used the have the entire collection of Evel toys and was GLUED to Wide World whenever he was on.

Had just bought a documentary I didn't have on Evel a couple months back.

He, Ali, and Mark "The Bird" Fidrych were heroes in my youth as well.

Hell yeah VA, seems like he had a liver transplant or something not long ago and was looking real old.

Had him a hottie girlfriend til the end, drove the country in a big motorhome, pulling a traveling museum.

RIP Evel.

Wonder how his Will reads.....

Knowing E, ya gotta figure he's requested to be shot out of a cannon, ala Hunter S. Thompson, or somesuch.

Get his last Guiness Record in under "most cars jumped post-mortem"

He'll go out with a bang, guaranteed.

the evil kneivel stunt cycle, oh yes i remember it well.

my fondest memory of my stunt cycle was winding that motherfucker up till it was just a hummin and throwing it in this snotty little bitches hair that lived behind my house, that fucker was so wound up in her hair thay had to cut it out, it was holding tight to her scalp.

oh shit i miss the days when you could accost someone and not get thrown in jail.

evil was pretty badass, i remember the wide world of sports on saturday or sunday and evil making the big jumps, i remember seeing him try and jump the fountains at cesars palace too, that was a pretty good wreck if i remember right.

he cheated death quite a few times, and was just the craziest motherfucker ever, he didnt play no games neither, im pretty sure he did some time for fucking someone up.

its too bad hes gone.

One last jump Evel, the last jump...

You know the day destroys the night
Night divides the day
Tried to run
Tried to hide
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side, yeah

We chased our pleasures here
Dug our treasures there
But can you still recall
The time we cried
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side

Yeah!
C'mon, yeah

Everybody loves my baby
Everybody loves my baby
She get
She get
She get
She get high

I found an island in your arms
Country in your eyes
Arms that chain us
Eyes that lie
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through, oww!
Oh, yeah!

Made the scene
Week to week
Day to day
Hour to hour
The gate is straight
Deep and wide
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through
Break on through
Break on through
Break on through
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

I grew up in central Idaho and my dad took us to see the Snake River Canyon jump. Man what a dissapointment that was. Lot's of wild, crazy people though.

Evel Knievel's fame as a motorcycle daredevil has come at a terrible price: multiple fractures of many of his bones. 14 open-reduction surgeries (to repair or replace bones, some with steel screws, pins or rods) and, over his career, 36 months in the hospital. While Evel Knievel never actually broke "every bone in his body," he holds the Gunniess World Record for the most broken bones: 35!

My wife asked me a question in Trivial pursuit once:

Who was Eh-vill Kin-eh-vill?

Fuckin` dumbass.

I had one of those toys back in the 70`s.

Could I get him to stay on the bike once he had been wound up?

Could I fuck.

RIP Evil.

Richard Hammond spent a week with him over the summer for a special BBC documentary to be shown over Christmas...

Looking forward to that...

How much more entertaining can you get?

Geez, I thought I was bad with my 10 odd breaks..

I always thought Billy Sheahan (Ex World Champion 500cc
motorcycle dude) held that dubious title. That poor guy
died about 2 years ago, and was very much still a young
man... Makes you wonder how much the soft tissue gets
fucked up with those mad breaks too...

RIP Evel !!

I too had the doll and motorcycle about 200 years ago.
Although the legend lost its lustre for me when he
failed to make that Canyon jump..
(A five year old who believes some dude is invincible
and then watches him fail, well... its devastating !!)

He did some great jumps on the standard bikes though...
Im actually surprised he died at 69, I would have pegged
him to at least make his mid 70's...
Tough old bugger, thats for sure...

Thanks for the memories Mr K !!
RIP

10 odd breaks, DAMN!

(knocking on wood) I have yet break to one.

What surprises me most about Knievel is the fact that the man could even ride and jump stuff with those boulder size nads of his. Baffling!

I've seen Evel's son Robbie jump a motorcycle but Robbie uses light wieght motorcross bikes. It's not the same as his dad's big and heavy Harley Davidson Sportster jumping.

We used to jump garbage can on our Schwinn Stingray pretending we were Evel. I had a big hill and a jump in our backyard and all the nieghborhood kids would hang out and jump our bikes. Man was that some fun shit!

Classic Knievel :rockit2:

"...Not having any way to support his family, Knievel recalled the Joie Chitwood show he saw as a boy and decided that he could do a similar show using a motorcycle. Promoting the show himself, Knievel rented the venue, wrote the press releases, set up the show, sold the tickets and served as his own master of ceremonies. After enticing the small crowd with a few wheelies, he proceeded to jump a twenty-foot-long box of rattlesnakes and two mountain lions. Despite coming up short and having his back wheel hit the box containing the rattlesnakes, Knievel managed to land safely."

The kids in my neighborhood were Evel junkies. We removed the backs off of our Big Wheels, pushed them like scooters and jumped trash cans. As we got older we graduated to Huffy bikes and made the ramps bigger. On Christmas morning every kid in the neighborhood was running the toy stunt cycles down an alley that ran between our backyards. Man!!! Those were good times and we owed it all to a real life super hero. RIP Evel.
