View Full Version : Mexican Fenders

This is my next purchase...

I'd buy this one but I have four Stratocasters presently under various stages of construction...

The Mexican "Classic Series" reissues are much more authentic than any Jap Strat as they interchange part by part with both old and new American Fenders...

The Jap stuff does not. A Jap neck will never properly bolt up to an American fender. Any mexican neck will, and BTW, the pickguards are identical...

Here's one with black pickup covers and knobs...

The wood is not nearly as nice as the body in the above model...

You gotta watch for that...

Some of them are supposedly one piece Ash...

I have one of those Mexican 70's strat reissues. It was perfect out of the box! Setup and all and it stays in tune amazingly well. I love the neck. It takes a few months for the neck finish to stop feeling grabby. Mine sounds fab. I get great Hendrix tones from it.

From what I understand, all of Fenders necks are made in Ensenada, Mexico; even the ones used on the Made in USA guitars. I think all the amplifiers and speaker cabnets are made in Mexico as well.

As far as the three bolt neck goes. Mine is rock solid and has given me ZERO problems. Actually it's one of the best sustaining Strats I have ever played. The pickups are Fender 68 reissues and don't cancel the hum in the in between positions. Big deal. They sound great!

It's a myth the three bolt necks aren't solid...

Actually, the design was intended to eliminate neck movement and when properly set up, it works...

That's another problem with Jap Strats... The Jap three bolt set up has three wood screws whereas the authentic version as well as the mexi reissue, has a the round plate screwed to the neck with a machine screw as the top attatchment...

Mexican Strats are very good guitars. I played a couple recently that I was thinking about buying. My Plan was to refit one with HS3's.

But the Paul Gilbert Ibanez was just a better guitar price wise.

Dimarzio Pickups have gotten expensive here in the past couple of years.

HS3's used to cost like 45 pounds now they cost like 80.

I can't use Stock Strat pickup's anymore. Single Coil pickups(unless they are Stacked) are nasty, IMO.

You mean YMJ in the neck...

I cant do that because they dont make a left-hand YMJ...

An HS3 can go either way...

Can't you just flip the YMJ upside down? The poles would line up to all the proper strings.

No, the pole stagger is incorrect...

An HS3 is the same either way...

HS3's kick ass. Great in any position. I run one in the neck pos. on my Strat.

It sucks when your pole is staggered incorrectly. :D

While the quality of Mexican Fenders has become way better over the past few years, they still let the occasional batch of pretty "off" guitars leave the factory.

But, Iīll leave this to Fender, their quality control still works 10 times better than Gibsonīs!

Elvis I don't understand. If you flip the pickup and put it in a left handed guitar each pole piece on the pickup would still sit under the same string it would on a regular right handed setup.

If you flip a right-handed Strat pickup upside down, the flatwork is not going to fit in the cavity correctly...

-I have yet to play a nice Mexi strat,
-never played a bad Jap strat..
-Played good and bad US strats..

My main issue with the Mexi's was buzzing
and bad finish..... Fret wires not smoothed back,
that kinda shit.. A good luthier could fix it, but
I have US and Jap fenders that dont need no
stinkin luthiers :D

I would take a Jap strat anyday over a Mexi...

Shame on you Elvis for putting down the Jap
versions !! You told me to buy one and its fookin
grate.. Now you put em down ??

Whats the story ??

I dont care about the neck bolts etc on the Japs,
they are such nice finished guitars you wouldnt
want to rip the neck off and try and butcher fit
it onto a US body anyway ;)

or vice versa..

That Jap strat you told me to buy (I think I paid
3-400 is now selling for 2000+ here)
I wouldnt sell it, great guitar....
I've played Korean guitars that are better than
Mexi's... Im sure there are good ones out there,
but I aint played one yet....

I think you are getting a chubby over the fact that
every now and then the Mexican Fender factory
gets one right....
(And you like finding the ones they got right)

Must have been speed in the coffee on siesta day....

I'm not talking about the Mexican Standard Stratocaster, they suck...

The Classic Reissue Series are a completetly different animal...
