Did Micheal Jackson invent his classic "moonwalk" ?
I saw an old western called "The Last Bandit" from the late forties early fifties starring Forrest Tucker.
At the beginning there is this old man dancing and appears to do
a lot of moves made famous by Micheal Jackson.
Including some fancy footwork that looked like the "moonwalk".

I saw a clip of Dick Van Dyke doing the moonwalk during a skit before the Dick Van Dyke Show aired in that he was walking against the wind. The minute I saw him place his heel I knew what it was. I called my wife over and she just said, "That's the Moonwalk!"...not sure of the date but its what got him noticed for the role as Dick Petry.

We are now calling him a theif .
That a few steps up the ladder from a pedophile.

I put a plastic fireman's hat on a cat once and the cat did the moonwalk.

And before we start getting calls from PETA, don't worry, I used a stapler.

I like to hog tie cats with a shoe string and see how long it takes them to break free.

I might be able to shed some light on this question.

Michael didn't invent the moonwalk, nor has he never claimed to...there's been several interviews where he has clearly stated that sreet dancers had been doing it for years (in fact, in the early days of his career, Cab Calloway used to do something very similar...there's footage around of him doing it in 1932), and that he was just the first person to do it on a world stage, at his commercial height and have it explode the way it did. Interestingly, the move isn't actually called the moonwalk, it's called the backslide, but MJ decided that "Moonwalk" had a better sound than "backslide" (the moonwalk is actually the one that he does in a four-cornered square)

Michael wasn't even the first person to do it on TV. Jeffery Daniel from Shalamar did it on UK Chart Show Top of the Pops whilst dancing to "A Night to Remember" a year earlier. I'm guessing Michael somehow saw that performance, because it was Jeffrey Daniel who taught him how to do it. In fact, the two have worked together a lot on choreography over the years.

Either way, it doesn't matter. It's like saying Eddie Van Halen "stole" tapping simply because he wasn't the first person to ever do it.

Goodbye.

You're right. He never claimed to invent it. It caught on because he exposed it at Motown 25 to a huge audience that had never seen anything like it. I've seen alot of people try to imitate it and fail miserably. To do it correctly you have to have impecable timing and coordination.
Say what you will about his personal life but there is no denying he is one hellova entertainer. I'm not ashamed to admit I have Thriller though I'm not a big fan. He was recently voted second greatest dancer of all time on some poll show I saw. Second only to James Brown and I believe Janet was 3 or 4.
I'm more impressed by that little side moonwalk he pulls off in the "Scream" video. That shits cool. That 45 degree lean in "Smooth Criminal" blew me away the first time I saw it. I figured there was no way in hell he could pull that off live without wires but he does. There are videos on youtube if you want to see it.

Why do people still respect MJ ??

Once you diddle and fiddle with children...

You are out ..

Are some people still awaiting proof ???????????

He lived his dream, and had to pay off a lot of parents

No Sympathy

Who the fuck could possibly care whether the kiddie diddler invented a dance step or not?

Seriously?

Are you this starved for attention, cadaverdouche?

Is there ON ONE in your neighborhood who will actually talk to you anymore?

Are you down to sitting around thinking up thread topics like THIS?

Welp, it sure makes your "I think the Beatles were rammed down our throats" thread look sane.

For future reference, you inbred hick, there's this new fangled invention on the internets called GOOGLE.

Type your stupid question into the little box like this:

invented moonwalk

And here's what you will find!!!

..... the moonwalk was invented by Marcel Marceau a mime from France. There is no record for the longest moon walk by one person, but a team called Moonwalk for Earth has the record for longest relay moonwalk and that was 30 miles. And no the moonwalk is not another black invention.

HOW MICHAEL JACKSON LEARNED THE MOONWALK
http://haha.nu/index.php?s=moonwalk

See, the answers you seek are right there on the big bad internets for you already!!!! On the FIRST page even !!!

No need to start this lame shit over and over, Clem.

I know he patented the trick where him all all his dancers are totallly slanted more than 90 degree...it' basically something petruding from the stage ( nail)that hooks up to their shoes.

I couldn't really care 'bout him.

(Even if she got fat, I still wouldn't care 'bout him.)

This just shows what an asshole you are .
You act like you and only you can judge a thread.
An observation based on an old movie and you're
panties bunch up.
You would be happy if I was stupid enough to start another
you're an asshole thread , but it ain't gonna happen.
So go ahead and bitch about every post I make and every
thread I start .
Too bad you don't control every forum , then you could
spend all day dumping threads that you don't like.
Then you would be the dictator you wish you were.
Asshole.

I heard Michael Jackson saying in an interview that his ultimate idol was James Brown...
He said that he learn most of his dancing steps from looking at and immitating him.

I think I saw an old video where James Brown was actually doing that moonwalk... back in the 60's. That man could do just about anything with those tiny legs and feet and so did Michael!

Okay, I will. Thanks for the permission.

Isn't it funy how you rail on and on about wanting the freedom of opinions and expression here, yet always get so bound up with mine?

You never even seem to notice ALL OF THE OTHER POSTERS MOCKING YOU in the same threads. :D

My criticism seems to really strike a chord with you. :D

You dont need my permission to make an ass out of yourself, Clem.

Are you telling me you dont actually see the ridicule that comes your way in EVERY thread you start?

I know you like to blame me for you looking like an idiot, but you're only fooling yourself.

Many, many others see what idiotic threads you start looking for attention.

And they ALWAYS revolve around some inane rhetorical question in the vain attempt to somehow look hip, intelligent, or witty.

Give up the threads. Just post.

YOU. SUCK. AT. IT.

Truth be told, the funniest threads are your whiney feedback threads.

All 9 of them
:D

Tell the truth for once.

Are you really too stupid to GOOGLE [Jackson Moonwalk Origin]???????

Why not just admit, you sat there in your lousy shack, in front of your Wal-Mart 'puter...... hoping THIS thread would get you the attention you so richly deserve....

Just admit it.

An "accident" done on purpose... like everythingelse of that sort that you get to see in the medias.

Good for you, if you got a chance to see something because it was all calculated in advance, so no-one would really see that nipple... and she was wearing a jewel "thing" stucked on top of it!

Ho, you wouldn't beleive how we (the liberated French) laughed at the situation... the scandal that it made... for us, it's everyday life to see boobies on TV. Lately, I was flipping the chanels and saw a French sit com with naked tits and ass... on national TV, at 8;00 PM!
