So I'm heading out to work, right?

It's around 6:45 AM (local time), and I'm gonna be 10 minutes late. (somewhat rare in my case these days)
Slight amount of black ice on the road, goin' a few miles above the speed limit on a back road.

I got some Rainbow playing on the stereo, feelin' good, that one cup of coffee from 15 minutes back starting to wake me up.

I enter this one curve...


That had some of that ol' black ice on the outside...

































And after a few slips on the road, I find myself in front of a farm house (the ditch in front of it) with my steering wheel in pieces, horn blowing, front end (most likely) busted and a major crack in the windshield.

Luckily, an elderly gentleman was in his barn doin' his chores. He rushed over, asked me if I was OK, called an ambulance.

After which I:
1) killed the engine
2) got out of the car
3) lit a cigarette while waiting for the ambulance

Somebody up there apparently REALLY likes me down here, 'cause I only had some minor cuts and bruises.
(forehead, jaw & knees)

Poppin' mild painkillers three times a day for now...



Here's the somewhat ironic part: In the morning I only had three more days of work...
Later... They extended my contract by a month...





And here's the philosophy: It ain't worth risking your life for a job. No matter how cool/lousy it might be.

Oh, and keep it UNDER the limit on such treacherous conditions... :drive:

If my speed would've been a couple of MPH slower, none of this wouldn't have happened.
Might've been another boring day at work...
