Keith alone singing and playing piano performing "Nearness Of You" by Hoagy Carmichael and "Sing Me Back Home" by Merle Haggard. These two recordings come from a Keith bootleg called "A Stone Alone", which features recordings that Keith did back in 1977 when he couldn't leave Canada due to being busted for heroin in Toronto. It also features some home recordings he did in 1981.

Yeah, that's really Keith. He recorded those songs and a few others in 1977 while awaiting trial on drug charges in Toronto. Probably why he sings so emotionally on "Sing Me Back Home" because he was legitimately worried about going to prison at the time.

He also did a couple George Jones covers in this session. None of this ever made it to an official recording, but some of the songs did make it to the New Barbarians tour in 1979 (see the Apartment No. 9 clip up above)

Speaking of the Toronto arrest....did you know about that blind girl that testified about how Keith was always kind to her and made sure she was taking care of at shows.....He may of been a class A waste case but he had a heart of gold.

If I remember correctly it was that blind girl's testimony that encouraged the judge to impose Keith's eventual sentence for the crime, which was to play a benefit for a blind school in Toronto "with the band of his choice".

So he brought two...... The Stones AND the New Barbarians. (it was the Stones only live appearance of 1979)

One Hell of a show, too bad it only happened once, and for an audience who couldn't actually SEE it. :biggrin:
