Happy Change of Seasons to you Heathens! :D
(And this year, the change was a Hell of a lot more than symbolic! God damn I picked the wrong month to cut my hair off!)

Also, Happy Hannukah to DLR and anyone else from the 12 tribes who might be among us.

And happy "birthday" JC (even if You were really born in June)!

What's funny about the whole thing is.......how "The Church" took over several Pagan holidays.......as you guys mentioned, Christmas, for the winter solstice and of course Easter......"It is not a Christian name. It bears its Chaldean [Babylonian] origin on its very forehead. Easter is nothing else than Astarte [Isthar], one of the titles of Beltis, the queen of heaven . . ." (The Two Babylons, p. 103). " Of course, there's the whole Druid thing with the eggs but I digress.

If you stand back and look at the Christian Religion, historically and objectively......you realize it owes as much to the various Pagan religions as it does Christ's teachings.

If you really look at it.......Christ was an observant Jew and would never of worshiped His Birthday or His death........it goes against His religion.

That's OK. I know the guy in charge down there. As long as he gives me an air conditioner and a fridge to keep the beer cold, I can deal with it.

I'm an Arizona desert rat, god damn it! Extreme heat don't bother me. http://www.cosgan.de/images/smilie/teufel/d065.gif

Really? That sounds pretty exciting. Do you have a travel brochure that I can look at before I make my final decision?

Interesting thing I just heard on the Thom Hartmann show.....

The whole thing about Santa's reindeer apparently came from the fact that reindeer have the ability to eat large quantities of certain mushrooms without damaging their livers. So that explains how they can "fly", the damn hippie Deadhead deer.

Here's the shroom that Rudolph and his pals like to chow down on.....

http://i43.tinypic.com/2lac2e9.jpg

....kinda "candy-caneish" isn't it?

And apparently back in old Norway, the shaman figured this all out, and would feed some extra 'shrooms to the deer, and then he'd wait for the appearance of "yellow snow" which he would then use to make potions.

Then you had a bunch of people tripping on psychedelic reindeer piss and they saw little elves walking around and making toys & shit, I guess.

It was really a genius idea from the get-go; rather than tromple over other religions and attempt to quash them, you incorporate them into your own mythos - those you've already converted automatically love the stories by default and those who you're looking to convert have little room to argue since their traditions are still essentially intact within the larger framework.

Never let it be said that the spread of Christianity throughout the world wasn't done by accident; those fuckers knew what they were doing, no doubt of that...

Law #45 of the 48 Laws of Power by by Robert Greene and Joost Elffers

Law 45

Preach the Need for Change, but Never Reform too much at Once

Everyone understands the need for change in the abstract, but on the day-to-day level people are creatures of habit. Too much innovation is traumatic, and will lead to revolt. If you are new to a position of power, or an outsider trying to build a power base, make a show of respecting the old way of doing things. If change is necessary, make it feel like a gentle improvement on the past.

Happy Winter Solstice, Mythras Bless us, every one!

Of course they knew.....look at the letters of James, Jesus' brother, and Peter and Paul. They were struggling with the idea of how to absorb the Gentiles into the fold. IE, dietary restriction, circumcision, and what Jewish practices the Gentiles had to observe. Even to the point of how Jews could interact with the Gentiles at dinner. James was a true Diplomat and the early church always sought out his advice and blessings for whatever they did. Yet James, remains an obscure figure in today's Bible.......You know the old saying.....History is written by the winners.

History is written by the winners.

And the survivors, of which the early spread of Christianity left little; even so, I'd imagine the written doctrines of which the survivors of their wars were left to tell were no doubt heavily censored...by swordpoint.

Think of the inquisition and magnify it worldwide. There are a lot of ugly little secrets the Christian religion doesn't much care to admit to.

But, to be fair, I have to give the religious folk credit as well; while you do hear about the negative aspects of organized religion and the crime, greed, intolerance and perversion that runs amok in it, I've seen and been a part of quite a few charity causes in my youth with the church and directly seen the impact it's had on the less fortunate, both locally and abroad. And I have to say from a personal perspective that impacting any one life positively impacts the world.

It's just better when it's done without a bible over your head, ready to thump you the second you drop out of line...and whether or not that happens pretty much rests on the party handing out the assistance.

It truly is a double edged sword like none other.

I agree with the good and bad that Churches have done in the name of God and money/power. Really, it's down to people and the deeds that they do. Not which team you're playing for. I never have bought into the whole, "This is the one true religion", or this one is better than that one bullshit. Morally, most religions teach a good set of core values. Churches have done some of the most good on earth. There was a time that any support came from the local Churches, before welfare. The early Christian leaders all spoke of helping the poor and needy, so did Christ.

It's the dogma and abuse we always tend to hear about. We never hear, "10,000 planes landed safely today" we only hear about the one that crashed. Same with Religion, we only hear about the bad and not the good. I know for a fact there are millions of families that were helped out by some religious organization over the holiday.

Now historically, Mary Magdalene as the repenting whore was only Officially corrected by the Church in the late 1960's. There's good evidence that most of the historically accurate books were never included in the Official Bible and the ones that were, have been edited to fit into the views of that religion. Women playing a leading role in Christ's ministry, fact. Mary Magdalene was a huge and influential person in Christ's inner circle. You catch glimpses of it in the current Bible and of course there's that whole........who did Jesus appear to first, to spread the word that He kicked death's ass. Unfortunately, the lies and half truths have been told for so long, most people just accept it as fact.
