UFC legend Ken Shamrock (http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Ken-Shamrock-4) has been suspended for one year for testing positive for the steroid Stanozolol, as well as two Nandrolone-based substances, 19-Norandrosterone and 19-Noretiocholanolone, according to a statement issued by the California State Athletic Commission on Wednesday.

Shamrock, who turned 45 on Feb. 13, picked up a one-minute victory over super heavyweight Ross Clifton (http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Ross-Clifton-2658) at Wargods “Valentine’s Eve Massacre” on Feb. 14 in Fresno, Calif. Shamrock’s production company also co-promoted the event.

Shamrock‘s manager and attorney Rod Donohoo said the fighter has adamantly denied the allegations and will appeal the suspension.

“Ken was taking legal over-the-counter products, and based upon our preliminary research, I’m investigating if those products were the result of these findings,” Donohoo told Sherdog.com on Wednesday.

Shamrock was scheduled to face fellow WWE pro wrestler Bobby Lashley (http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Bobby-Lashley-39806) in a headlining heavyweight bout for the Roy Jones Jr.-helmed Square Ring Promotions “March Badness” on March 21 at the Pensacola Civic Center in Pensacola, Fla. However, the Florida State Boxing Commission will likely uphold the CSAC’s suspension and an appeals process will not be completed before March 21.

Donohoo told Sherdog.com that he will request an expedited appeal.

“Ken is willing to submit to immediate testing in Sacramento to prove his innocence,” said Donohoo.

If the suspension is not overturned, Shamrock will be eligible to re-apply for licensure in California after Feb. 1, 2010 and will pay a $2,500 fine.

Seriously...

Guys my age are refusing to admit when their skills diminish, and acknowledge that it's time to hang it up. They need every edge they can find to compete and resort to cheating, and that affects the integrity of the sport, whichever it may be.

It's a selfish thing to do.

The guy has minimal talent

He won his fights by overpowering the opponent. He did this with a body fueled by roids.

In his heyday he
a. wasn't a good wrestler
b. wasn't good at jujitsu
c. didn't have good stand up

He had some technique, which was a lot more than the people he was fighting.
Skill for skill he didn't have it once MMA took off, that is why he hasn't won many fights in the last 10 years.
Age isn't the factor here. It's skills.

He should have done something like HGH instead of roids.
I mean.. didn't he realize he was going to be tested?

I did enjoy watching him in his hay day. His victories over Bas Rutten and Dan Severn were impressive and it has been pretty sad watching him get his ass beat by Franklin, Ortiz and some ham and egger named Robert Berry.
