I used to work with these two Samoan dudes. These guys would come in to work hungover half the time, and I know they were getting high on their breaks. One day I made some random joke about Donnie & Marie and holy purple underwear or something like that, and one of these guys turns to the other one and mumbles a bunch of stuff in his native language and gives me all these dirty looks.

I asked the other guy what was up with him. "Oh he doesn't like you making fun of our religion". How was I supposed to know they were Mormons? Didn't exactly live by those rules old Brigham laid down.

Of course on the other hand, Salt Lake City is the only place on earth that I ever found caffeinated bottled water, so go figure.

Yeah--lot's of far right shit...Pretty damn extreme. How many principals do you agree with? Sadly, I only score 8.

Principles

1. America Is Good.

2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life.

3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.
Honesty “I hope that I shall always possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider to be the most enviable of all titles, the character of an honest man.” George Washington

4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.
Marriage/Family “It is in the love of one’s family only that heartfelt happiness is know. By a law of our nature, we cannot be happy without the endearing connections of a family.” Thomas Jefferson

5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.
Justice “I deem one of the essential principles of our government… equal and exact justice to all men of whatever state or persuasion, religious or political.” Thomas Jefferson

6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.
Life, Liberty, & The Pursuit of Happiness “Everyone has a natural right to choose that vocation in life which he thinks most likely to give him comfortable subsistence.” Thomas Jefferson

7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.
Charity “It is not everyone who asketh that deserveth charity; all however, are worth of the inquiry or the deserving may suffer.” George Washington

8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.
On your right to disagree “In a free and republican government, you cannot restrain the voice of the multitude; every man will speak as he thinks, or more properly without thinking.” George Washington

9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.
Who works for whom? “I consider the people who constitute a society or a nation as the source of all authority in that nation.” Thomas Jefferson

Glenn Beck Comes Out in Favor of Paying AIG Executive Bonuses
By: Blue Texan Tuesday March 17, 2009 10:30 am

The Populist Champion of the Everyman is sticking up for those downtrodden, forgotten millionaires at AIG.

DAILY BEAST: How angry does it make you that AIG is using our money to pay $165 million in bonuses to their ill-begotten executives?

BECK: It makes me insane because George Bush shouldn’t have given that money to AIG in the first place. Now we have to care about what their contracts with their people say. Now I’m mad at George Bush and Barney Frank and Chris Dodd making this deal. But I can’t believe that Barack Obama wants to break the contract. What are you talking about? You’ve got a contract. Now if that’s what the government is going to do, saying that they have the right to terminate contracts, well, you’ve got to shut the pie hole on it. It’s one or the other. You can’t just start breaking contracts. If you want to do that, that’s why you let businesses fail.

DB: It’s not our contract with AIG, the people’s contract with AIG. It’s AIG’s contracts with its executives.

BECK: They made those deals with their employees. How could you possibly back out of the AIG contract because it’s popular? It’s a legal contract.

Really shows his true colors, eh?

Beck also reaffirmed his comparison of Al Gore to Joseph Goebbles and claims that President Obama has turned the US into a totalitarian socialist state.

This is the new face of Fox News.

With all that's been said I like Glenn Beck! Not because he's anywhere near being a proper journalist (are you kidding) but because the warped cretins at Fox News couldn't even invent this guy like they did with O'Reilly and Hannity. Beck is a monkey swinging aimlessly in his own Thorazine cage claiming to "love" America while at the same time being unable to define it. OKKK...I get your point.

And he's dead wrong. By the way--you know who supported the bonus provision don't ya?

Amid AIG Furor, Dodd Tries to Undo Bonus Protections He Put In
Senator Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) on Monday night floated the idea of taxing American International Group (AIG: 0.9491, 0.169, 21.66%) bonus recipients so the government could recoup some or all of the $450 million the company is paying to employees in its financial products unit. Within hours, the idea spread to both houses of Congress, with lawmakers proposing an AIG bonus tax.
The move represents somewhat of an about-face for the Senator.
While the Senate was constructing the $787 billion stimulus last month, Dodd added an executive-compensation restriction to the bill. That amendment provides an “exception for contractually obligated bonuses agreed on before Feb. 11, 2009” -- which exempts the very AIG bonuses Dodd and others are now seeking to tax.
Amid AIG Furor, Dodd Tries to Undo Bonus Protections He Put In - FOXBusiness.com (http://www.foxbusiness.com/story/markets/industries/finance/dodd-cracks-aig---time/)

Who were the top two politicians to receive campaign donations in the 08 election cycle?
Of course:

Name Office Total Contributions
Dodd, Chris (D-CT) Senate $103,100
Obama, Barack (D-IL) Senate $101,332

I said this months ago and I agree with Beck. Those deals with those employees were in place long before the bailout. The government knew at the time of the bailout that it was an issue and didn't have the time or energy and money to redraw 73 contracts (which the employees would drag their heels to stretch the process out). So everyone at that table knew at the time of the bonuses and were trying to make those restrictions going forward. All this "outrage" is a fucking stunt, pure and simple. The first stunt of the new administration...yay.

As I do Maddow's swarminess and Olberman's overly botoxed face stretching to contain his issues that he directs at others. Only a few minutes though, I couldn't either of them for an hour.

On 9/12? Pride, Patriotism, and a little Vengeance for starters. How 'bout you?

Disbelief.

Disbelief that something of that magnitude could be planned and carried out without anyone noticing.

I wasn't worried about vengeance. I assumed they would get theirs.

I was wrong.

Now, I am worried about justice.

Exactly. Plus he doesn't even come across as a real Mormon. The way he acts and the way he jokes is something a real Mormon wouldn't do. This is the guy that hangs around the church selling his ponzi scheme.

Again--What is wrong with the core principles Beck promotes?

Principles

“I consider the people who constitute a society or a nation as the source of all authority in that nation.” Thomas Jefferson

beck is a loony tunes, not sure which cartoon character, but a loony toon for sure.
And that other guy..... he is investigating prisons saying look, the prisons are right at this very moment being used as prisons... ummm.

I remember when this silliness was danced before me... rolleyes...
I'll repeat what I said to the dancer then...

Our penitentiary system is a significantly privatized industry. Moreover, this is not good, that is true. The penal system was not always privatized. By it being privatized, it creates lobbyist to promote profit from sentencing guidelines. By law anything to do with the penal system and the Judicial system of the penal system that is privatized should be non-profit at least and charitable at best. A profit based prison system is not a good idea.

That said, I continued, in the penal industry, you would have waste issues at best, fraud issues at worst. All the way up to and including, "building bridges to no where” examples. I went on to tell him of an individual that had used state and federal funs literally to build a bridge to nowhere. Also showed examples of where prison housing was built and funding was not available to run the prison and it sits there as a noted reminder that construction companies can be a source of spending waste.

Fraud is fraud. No matter if, it is a fraud in road construction, or prison facilities

I tried to watch that show of his..I couldn't get past his tunnel-vision tirade on socialism, and how he (or his producers at FOX) use images and comparisons to make you stop listening to his nonsense (as well as the thoughts of his so-called "panel") and follow the shiny object. Beck is for the weak-minded who want others to do their thinking for them.

Speaking for myself (and maybe Ford, Lounge,Hide your sheep, Nick, et. al.), I am, in general, pissed off that any of these so-called "reporters/commentators" actuallly have an audience -- maybe not a huge one, but one nonetheless. Their influence on the masses is frightening. And people will believe anything just because it's them saying it. Arrrrgh!

It scares me to think that there are people in this country who actually respect and get their "facts" from these people.

The ignorance in this country is astounding (or maybe it's about denial). Not that I am the premier historian or political "Zorro", I do try to sift out b.s. from fact and I don't follow any single, political mind. Although I do have an inclination toward Chomsky.

I am angry at the passiveness and apathy of people in this country.

Good points. The skewed cathode blare that is Fox, CNN or even MSNBCEDFG (or whatever they call themselves) has little to do with news much less qualifying as remote journalism. These organizations exist because you're half-right, Americans are stupid. Even TMZ gets respectable ratings. The other half is Americans loved to be entertained and that's what Hannity, Olberman, Maddow, Anderson Cooper, et al, represent. The lines have become more than blurred. O'Reilly's odious pit bull tactics are more character than professional and you have to keep that in mind when watching these disaffected morons.

As for Beck, like I said he comes off as being about as "unbalanced" as one can become at FOX but that's to be expected from a onslaught of Murdoch memos that flagrantly push a pro-Rethuglican slant. Have you even seen Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War On Journalism?"

If this guy is so bad for the world , then shouldn't everyone else be gaining on him? How do you explain the losses of his moral and actual competition? I'm thinking of Cooper, Olby and most notably Maddow (While this story is everywhere, I intentionally picked this link, so that Lounge and Ford wouldn't get upset from where it came from-The pro-spin version):

Obama won, now what does Maddow's future hold? - Los Angeles Times (http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-et-maddow22-2009apr22,0,4939507.story)

The left-leaning host of an MSNBC show sees a ratings drop, but remains committed to asking the tough questions.
By Yvonne Villarreal
April 22, 2009
When MSNBC's "The Rachel Maddow Show" debuted during the historic campaign of Barack Obama, the program's ratings soared and made its host a breakout star on cable.

But as the president's administration nears its 100-day milestone, Maddow's show -- like most cable programs that traffic in political talk and chatter -- has seen its numbers cool. March was the lowest-rated month so far for Maddow with her numbers falling from an average high of 1.9 million viewers to just slightly over 1.1 million.

The road to regain viewers would seem an especially challenging one for Maddow. Politics, not to mention television, thrives on conflict, but how much of that will there be with a left-leaning host in a time of a left-leaning president? Maddow isn't worried.

My job of asking questions and being critical doesn't stop depending on who is in the White House," said the 36-year-old host. "My main concern is keeping the quality of the show high. We don't debate the ratings very much."

Such concerns are a long way from last September when Maddow's show stormed onto the crowded political talk circuit and more than doubled her network's viewership in her time slot. Audiences, and many critics, responded to the show's mix of political analysis, offbeat news and Maddow's stinging wit.

"I think Rachel is a rock star," said Phil Griffin, president of MSNBC, about the show that airs at 9 weeknights (6 p.m. PDT). "We've never had success anywhere near that in our 12-year history at 9 p.m. right out of the gate."

And even though Maddow's ratings slipped last month, she still beat out CNN's "Larry King Live," a consistent cable news heavyweight, among the 25- to 54-year-old demographic. And, on some nights, she bested King in total viewers. But she's still a good distance from Fox News' "Hannity," which continues to dominate the 9 p.m. time slot.

Despite her political similarities with the new administration, there is still a president to hold to account. She's already gone after Obama on issues like wiretapping and torture.

"She has not at all been afraid to be critical of Obama when she disagrees with him," said Martin Kaplan, director of the Norman Lear Center at the USC Annenberg School for Communication. "It's a place for people to tune in and hear intelligent conversation about differences of opinion."

A former AIDS activist and Rhodes scholar, Maddow began her journey to becoming MSNBC's ratings darling on a whim, when she auditioned for a job as a morning radio sidekick in Massachusetts. By 2004, she made it onto Air America, a liberal talk radio network.

The platform brought her to the attention of cable news producers and it wasn't long before she made regular appearances on MSNBC's "Tucker" and CNN's "Paula Zahn Now." She eventually became a frequent substitute host on "Countdown With Keith Olbermann" -- a stint that would later lead to a show touting her name in the title.

"We don't debate the ratings much". No shit, you can't. 50% audience GONE...

I don't watch Rachel's show that much. I'd like to, but it just happens to be on the same time as Mike Malloy. Sometimes I have tried to catch the rerun later, but MSNBC keeps switching the time around on all the reruns, and I really don't want to have to sit through 4 hours to make sure I get the right hour for the replay.

It's a great show though. I'd watch it if I could.

Well, the original article's point that ratings of a political show would probably drop after an election is probably valid enough. Hell, especially this election which seemed to literally go on forever (at least the primaries did)

Me I'm a political junkie, though at this point it's about issues rather than party labels, because the one guy who had kept me interested in the Democratic party for the last 6 years or so is no longer running the show, and I'm not sure how to feel about a party that seems to have room for Evan Bayh and Jane "AIPAC spy enabler" Harmon, but no role for Howard Dean.

So I still listen to Hartmann and Malloy daily (and occasionally Ron Reagan, and watch Rachel when I can) because they're talking about the issues beyond just the partisan cheerleading. Or partisan teabagging like Mush and BecKKK.

Is it as engaging listening to Maddow agree with Obama as it is for Olbermann to disagree with Bush for you (although Maddow seems to have gotten that memo and at least entertains discontent with Barry for ratings and balance purposes)? That seems to be the real question.

Looking at both talk radio and cable news, a discontent Republican themed show gets better ratings than a discontent Democratic themed show, seems to be the message.

So from this highly unscientific sample:

..Sheep gave up on the cable news
Not entirely, I just took a pass on the Host/ panel discussion shows...News I dont mind, but opinion-based programming is becoming tiresome.

Rush give his show away for free in some markets, so that may be why there's such a spike in his ratings, seeing how he's on just about every other AM station in Jerkwater, USA.

I've said this before...I've seen company cafeterias, hospitals, nursing homes, and even banks that play Fox Noise constantly. What method they use for determining ratings I have no idea, but when you can run your show non-stop where the channel can never be changed, well......

Well, that is a bit loopy logic. I highly doubt all those places have Faux News and every other channel blocked.

Prescott Bush didn't know shit about cable....

Although it might drive some people insane, people seem to trust Fox News more than CNN or MSNBC...or the network news for that matter. Why, I don't know, they all suck.

. Can't speak for the nursing homes, but the bank and cafeteria were locked on....you can't change it in the bank, and you weren't allowed in the cafeteria. Seriously. If anything's loopy, it's that FNC is being forced onto people who don't want it.

I couldn't imagine trying to sit down and have a lunch with Beck or Hannity, and not being able to turn it off! I thought we didn't tourture?!

I already switched banks.

I just change the channel to ESPN or even Fox Sports like everyone else does in a public place that's showing that shitty channel Faux News. But only if I have access to a remote or channel changer. If I don't, then it's time to break out the mp3 player.
