I have been really getting into Steely Dan lately, I love how precise the music is.
Aja has to be one of my favorite albums ever.

Anyone else a fan? Know any similar styled bands you could recommend?

I've also gotten into Yes lately too, who are also awesome.

Oh sweet merciful Christ!

The only "band" (if you can call two guys a band) that makes me vomit quicker than Van Hagar OR post-Cain Journey. :barf:

One of my favorite guitar albums from the seventies has to be Steely Dan's The Royal Scam. The hottest session players of the time were used in it's recording, including the incomparable Elliott Randall and Larry Carlton.

Carlton is featured on this track, titled "Don't Take Me Alive".

More Carlton, on the track "Kid Charlemagne". Check out the lead break starting at 2:17. :rockin:

Steely Dan , fookin brilliant.
Their cast of stellar players boggles the mind. For any musician who thinks they're hot shit ,throw on some Steely and give yourself a reality check and some homework while yer at it.
Excellent structure and feel. And an excellent Rock/Jazz mix for the masses...

One of my top 5 fav.'s of all time!

I think it's genius to name your band after a steam-powered dildo....

Figures!

Anything with 5 or more chord changes will cause your brain to shut down and reboot. No surprise here that the sound of a "Gsus2/B " chord to you would cause a complete loss of bowel control....

Stick to listening to your 8th generation Rose Tattoo mp3 bootlegs and keep the fuck away from threads about intelligent music....

Having your lumpy ,pimply ass handed to you in every thread is bad enough. But this generic type of replie proves to all who read this as proof that you have zero game.None!

Aja is quite excellent.

Think it wasn't so much a case of shooting for perfectionism, but the use of very skilled studio musicians who just knew how to and were able to play so well...to improvise on command...a real knowledge of their instruments (probably far more than many rock musicians, truth be told).

YES I've always been kinda lukewarm about. While I recognize the level of skill virtually all of the musicians who played with the band have, the end result doesn't do that much for me...and Jon Anderson's voice is something that I find mildly irritating.
