Fantasy sports super site, KFFL, has a one-line report that seems like it should contain a little more information considering the nature of the statement.
March, 23: KFFL.com: KFFL has learned the Detroit Lions will take Baylor OT Jason Smith with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.
So, if you're to believe KFFL, the number one pick is already set in stone more than a month before the draft, totally bucking recent reports that the Detroit Lions are negotiating with several players.
Unless Smith has agreed to play for half the expected cost of the projected contract, I think it's safe to take this report with a grain of salt.
That's not to say Smith couldn't end up as the number one pick, but to suggest it's a done deal at this point in time is borderline ridiculous.
On an unrelated note, I'm making an early prediction for the Lions this season: 4-12.
