Man, i can't believe more poeple aren't interested in Steel Panther/Metal Skool. I know it is a bit of a joke, but these guys can play.

Ralph & Russ were both great in the Atomicpunks.

Now they have a major label debut with some buzz behind it out here in California. They are getting more and more clebs and press at every show down in LA lately. Hell maybe they will even get a tour out of this so they can visit all of you guys out in the sticks.

STEEL PANTHER Parachutes To Gig In Front Of 11,000 Fans - May 5, 2009
STEEL PANTHER, the '80s metal/hard rock tribute band formerly known as METAL SKOOL, made a grand entrance to the KUPD U-Fest this past weekend in Phoenix, Arizona. The band jumped from an airplane soaring over head and deployed their parachutes to glide onto the stage where over 11,000 fans were treated to their brand of metal.

You can check out fan-filmed video footage of the jump below.

STEEL PANTHER's debut album, "Feel The Steel", will be released on June 9 via Universal/Republic.

The group's lineup includes guitarist "Satchel" (real name Russ Parrish; ex-FIGHT) and singer "Michael Starr" (real name Ralph Saenz; ex-L.A. GUNS). Onstage, the band both pays tribute to and lampoons the heyday of '80s glam metal. The group's between-song comedy includes jests at conflict between bandmembers, discussions of drugs, sex, and improvised humor with the crowd.

STEEL PANTHER was interviewed by Metal Injection on the "black carpet" of last month's (April 7) Epiphone Revolver Golden Gods Awards at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles. Watch the chat below.

a little more info for our UK friends....

Steel Panther his touring this summer

++++++++++++++++++++++
Dude! If you're from England you're gonna be stoked!

We have been confirmed to perform at the Download Festival! (all the English people are freaking out right now. Others, not so much)

Download is like the biggest fucking festival over there, from what I've heard, so it will be awesome!

They pack about 50 million people into castle Donnington and crank up a bitchin' PA and all the girls are naked and there is free drugs. We are going to be the biggest Heavy Metal band in England. Bigger than Def Leppard. Well, maybe not, but at least we have all of our arms.

Also, while we are over there, we are going to get to see all the sights. like the leaning tower and the Great Wall.

If you're English, go buy a ticket!

I guess the new cd "FEEL THE STEEL" came out on tuesday June 9th. But you can't buy it in the store...WTF????? Looks like it is Itunes only right now. It is up at demoniod and a few other sites. So I DLed it.

Simply put..... it is fuckin great.

Ralph is Ralph. Suprisingly his vocals are pretty damn professional on this cd. The lyrics are all pretty funny if you get what they are doing.

Russ tears it up pretty good on lead guitar. A few good solos and riffs.

Hopefully they get some run and some record company backing so they can hit the road for a US tour this summer.

If not I will have to catch them in LA this summer @ the Key Club.

Y'know, vocals, etc...

"Turn Out The Lights", for example, has a slightly different vocal track...
"Fat Girl" doesn't have those cheesy synth-drums...

Nitpicking, I'll admit, but that's just me...

Me new all-time favourite song is Party All Day.

But I can'tst find them lyrics to it.

Let's give it a go, shall we?

When I was only three
My mother said to me
Don't go screwin' a skanky ho
Or you're gonna get VD

When I was seventeen
???
A couple days later my balls swelled up
And my cock began to itch

But that's when I totally knew
What God wanted me to do

Woah ohohohoho hey hey hey
Fuck all night and party all day
Woah ohohohoho hey hey hey
Fuck all night and party... all day

Now I'm in a bitchin' band
???
???
???

I get up in the afternoon
'Cuz I ain't got a stupid job
I drink some beer ???
???

Smoke and drink and screw
That's what I was born to do

Woah ohohohoho hey hey hey
Fuck all night and party all day
Woah ohohohoho hey hey hey
Fuck all night and party all day

(Solo)

Now God's lookin' down on me
Sayin' "Hey man, way to be"

Woah ohohohoho hey hey hey
Fuck all night and party all day
Woah ohohohoho hey hey hey
Fuck all night and party all day

Some of the parts I don't know, I sometimes have half of the line figured out, maybe more. Sometimes, I'm only missing a word, but I may be wrong.

So I didn't put anything ther so as not to condition anyone who hasn't figured it out yet. Better they try it clean.

I only put the ones I'm (almost) absolutely sure.

Cheers! :bottle:

No more Nirvana, no, please Gawd, NO!

Warrant? You couldn't be farther away from the truth, Katie. The truth is over there, and you're pointing at that other side.

Maybe you're not getting what they're doing? They're acting! Yes, they enjoy and love the music they play, but they're being serious at not being serious. It's all a big joke.

Ralph (Michael Starr) is smiling all the time in interviews to avoid cracking up. If he tried keeping a straight face, he'd explode.

They're just in it for the laughs. And they're grate while they're doing it. Ralph may very well be one of the best singers around today, what he does is not easy. Russ is one helluva guitar player, the man knows what he's doing, and he never overdoes it. It's clear that he's much better than what he shows. Travis has the best character, Lexxy Foxx rules, even if he couldn't play for shit, he'd still be entirely justified in that band. ANd Darren is a helluva drummer.

Take another listen, watch some interviews. You're missing out on the best band around.

Cheers! :bottle:

Hi Imapus

I hear what you are saying, but I guess this is not for me.

I agree Ralph is a great singer,
Shame he comes up with shite (tounge in cheek lyrics)

Well, I'll admit that while the lyrics are an integral part of the band, some of them make me a bit uncomfortable, Oklahoma Girl and Death to All but Metal being prime examples.

I dunno, I guess when it's too explicit, it stops being funny. I do know, however, that the lyrics were the way I like, they'd probably not have haalf the fans/success they have nowadays. And they probably know it too.

To achieve mass success, you have to step down a rung or two in the IQ ladder. But they make up for it beautifully even in those two songs with a bit of more subtle humour. In Oklahoma Girl, for example, when Ralph sings with a lot of feeling in a soft falsetto the words "Momma's little girl got all sticky", that made me laugh out loud, literally. Or when again he sings with the same feeling & falsetto "Hey, Michael Starr, you motherfucker" after explaining to the Oklahoma Girl that she doesn't have to worry if she's got VD, 'cuz she'll be screaming his name when she sits down to pee. It only shows how good they are, when they make a grate joke out of a childish lyric. It's all about timing and building the joke, and these guys are pros in that stuff.

Asian Hooker is crammed with good stuff, the only part I don't like - but still made me laugh - is the "Wrap a tuna roll on my dick, and the bitch is on her knees". To me the "bitch" is completely uinnecessary, but to a casual listener, it'll grab his/her attention. Sex, drugs, rudeness, all of it sells, and they know it. "Wrap a tuna roll on my dick" is pure jaenious.

Party All Day is so juvenile it actually builds up to something really good. An instant classic, if such a thing exists.

Stripper Girl is a gem! I just LOVE how the guy can be so shameless and clueless! "Sometimes you think that I'm a jerk, when you catch me fucking your friends from work, I'll be there to catch you when you fall"? It's so absurd, it's a work of art. It'd take either huge balls or huge amounts of stupidity - more likely both - to actually say that to a girl. And the feeling when he sings the line "I'll be there to catch you when you fall", you actually believe him to be the good guy. And that he's right, of course. He even puts the cherry on the gawddamned cake - he finishes it off with "If you buy me a cellphone you can give me a call". Jaysus!

I think I find all this funny because I have a sick sense of humour. More than once, I lost a good opportunity to have sex 'cuz something happened that warranted a good joke at the expense of the girl, and I just couldn't help myself. Thus, I ended up a couple of times laughing and having sex with my palm, but hey... they weren't that hot, and it would be only a one night stand, anyway. It's not like they had anything between their ears. Have I regretted it? Many times? Have I laughed? Oh, boy... how I laughed.

Woah, look at all this text! I do tend to ramble on some subjects. I'm off.

You are a good guy Imapus

Thanks, Katie. I'm hot, too. :) And you rock, girl. ;)

Yoo no wut I ment.

Actually I didn't.

The fact they rip the piss out of Poison whilst delivering some good music is great. You are reminding me a bit of KI$$ who hated Spinal Tap and demanded a boycott by their fans(I doubt they still say that). Everyone else got the joke but I think for KI$$ it was a bit too close to drawing back the curtain on the Wizard of Oz bullshit that was their music based on the novelty shit of makeup, big stage shows etc.

I loved the Spinal Tap film but I never saw any great reason to go and see them live although I had a couple of opportunities.

Steel Panther though are coming from the other side, they are musicians playing at being actors rather than the other way. They are amazing at doing covers recreating shit the original artist can only do using tapes.

Anyhoo I'm looking forward to going to see them in a few weeks and I bet I have a great fun night. You'll probably be reading the Old Testament whilst listening to that fat guy play endless scales with brief gaps when someone shouts some shit about a Viking killing a dragon or whatever.

Saw them on Friday in London and sad to say I was a little bit disappointed.

The music was great but they did far too much chat. I looked at my watch and after 25 minutes they had played 1 fucking song. Even worse was that from where I was quite near the back you couldn't hear shit because I think they were using the same settings with reverb and so on for their talking as they did for singing.

So all you got was mnfff nnff mother fucker nnff mnnnf mmmmf mnnnf pussy mnnnf mmmf fuck.

For 15 minutes at a fucking time!

It was still just about saved by the music that they played from time to time and they spent plenty on a stage show full of pyros and strippers. :)

It was sold out so 5000 fans who were really up for it. The irony is that they now get bigger crowds than most of the bands they are sending up. :)

They debuted a new song called Pussy which had an identical chorus to Action Not Words by Def Leppard - you get the idea. It was filmed with about 6 or 8 cameras for a DVD so it will be interesting to hear what the fuck they were saying for all that time when it comes out.

As expected they were really tight and great live. Finished with encores of Shout At The Devil and Paradise City. Their version of PC would blow Axl Roses 10 piece band away.

So a bit of a pity about the sound/chat thing but I still had a really good night.

Wasn't Steel Panther Miss Chrissi's favorite band? No, that was Steelheart, honey.
Totally different band. Steelheart was known for some sappy ballad they did back in the 80's.....Steel Panther is a band that reminds everyone how much fun the 80's were....

Go to itunes and put 'Community Property', 'Stripper Girl' and 'The Shocker' on your new ipod.
Better yet, purchase the whole 'Feel The Steel' disc.

STEEL PANTHER TV Show Coming To COMEDY CENTRAL - May 6, 2010
A loosely scripted docu-reality show which follows the members of the outrageous and popular '80s-style "hair" band STEEL PANTHER as they attempt to bring back heavy metal is one of the pilots that were ordered by Comedy Central as part of the network's next year of production. Tentatively titled "Steel Panther", the show is created by Brian Posehn ("The Sarah Silverman Program") and Jeff Tremaine ("Jackass").

Featuring vocalist Michael Starr (real name Ralph Saenz; ex-L.A. GUNS), drummer Stix Zadinia, bassist Lexxi Foxxx, and guitarist Satchel (real name Russ Parrish; ex-FIGHT), STEEL PANTHER (formerly known as METAL SKOOL) is a parody heavy metal band from Los Angeles, known for its profane and humorous lyrics. The group's over-the-top live performances have attracted celebrities and fans alike, and in February 2009 the band succeeded in becoming one of the most popular cover bands in California, winning the contest of "Best Tribute Band in the Universe"." The band's first album, entitled "Feel the Steel", was released in 2009.

"The focus throughout our development process is to find performers, writers, directors and producers that project a strong, unique comedic voice, and then help them actualize their vision in the most unfiltered manner possible," said Kent Alterman, head of original programming and production, Comedy Central. "With the current development slate, I think it's safe to say we're doing our part to end global hunger and foster world peace."

I have my doubts about how this is going to work out. Comedy Central has a well-known history of shying away from controversy and pussing out on things they feel are too 'edgy'.
I knew this is were they were heading, but it should be on HBO/Showtime...were they're not so limited.

True and if it isn't edgy it won't be funny.Right. Like it says in the article, the band is known for their "profane and humorous lyrics"...their sense of humor altogether is too-over-the-top for Comedy Central. It'll be censored mercilessly!

The viewer would be subjected to those never-ending headache-inducing bleeps to the point where you'll have to read lips to understand what's being said, and I don't know about anyone else, but the only lips I wanna read usually have a landing strip on 'em.

Which brings up all the T&A that'll be blocked out....that'll fuckin' suck too! It's not a good situation all the way around.

When you watch something like "Deadwood" and see all the freedom they have....the bands humor would come across more if they went to HBO instead of wasting their shot on Comedy fuckin' Central!

Seshmeister
05-06-2010, 06:09 PM
Even bleeps can sometimes work but I can't imagine them for example, having a girl (even simulating) blowing a band member all the way through an interview.

Also I would have to say that musically SP are much better than Spinal Tap but they are not remotely close to the Tap guys when it comes to improvising funny chat.

Got to see Steel Panther again in Las Vegas on Saturday night @ House of Blues. Around 900/1000 people, it was fuckin packed.

The Vegas show is a bit different set list then some of their shows in LA or San Diego. They go with more covers and less "originals" since it is a more tourist crowd. Plenty of chicks on stage showing the goods.

Opened with Kickstart my Heart(Crue) then into Cherry Pie(Warrant).

They did 3 originals Fat Girl, Community Property & Death to all but Metal.

Over covers included Livin on a Prayer, Sweet Child O Mine, Pour some Sugar on Me, Photogragh, and a few other 80s classics.

Russ did a guitar solo with bits of Eruption. They then went into JUMP.

They also did a tribute to Dio with the opening of Rainbow in the Dark.

Great show and a fun time if you can take it for what it is. Check them out if you can.

No, you're totally lame - they're hilarious and playing to packed crowds EVERYWHERE. They're all great musicians, too. Russ Parrish played for Halford and Kevin Gilbert among others, and was a teacher at GIT. Ralph sang for LA Guns and the biggest VH tribute band on the West Coast. Not a slouch in the group. And if you knew what they got paid per night, say at the Key Club or the HOB here in LA - you'd STFU.

Went and saw SP on Saturday night at the Green Valley Ranch in LV. Got there about a 1/2 hour before showtime, scored a table, sat down with a bunch of pals - one of whom who is a respected, old-school. comic. He was a little hesitant to even go.

Show started at about 11:10, the floor was pretty packed. Nice size crowd.

Take it for what it is worth, but it was a really fun time. My comic friend was laughing so hard he was crying. Not sure who wrote their stage show, but it's well done. Like Sesh said, a little too much talking between songs, but the show was free, so who cares. Show was also short...about 90 minutes...typical casino show.

Vinnie Paul got up on the drums with Ivan from 5-Finger and sang "ATBL". Chatted with Ivan for a couple of minutes in the casino. A really cool, humble guy. Hal Sparks also got up and rocked out "Man in the Box". Dude can sing. There was another guy that did "Enter Sandman", but I didn't recognize him.

Tried to talk to Ralph after the show, but he only came out to the merch desk for a minute and then ran back to the green room. We had a good time and I would definitely see them again. Sounds like they have an open-ended deal with GVR and the HOB - sucks as this limits their touring possibilities.

Heard their pilot did NOT get picked up by CC.

What else could they do? :)

Not sure a grunge version would work somehow.

For some reason the Classic Rock radio here keeps playing the radio friendly version of 'Death to all but metal'.

It just has gaps at the offensive content which just becomes ludicrous towards the end. :D

Blank those blank blank who programme MTV
They can blank my blank with all the record companies

Blank to Britney Spears, blank the little blank
Blank Madonna too and then blank her in the blank
Blank Mariah Carey, blank to Sheryl Crowe
They can blank each other on the blank toe
50 Cent's a blank, so is Kanye West
Shooting blank blank on each others' blank

I'm actually starting to find it funnier than the original... :D
