ESPN has been talking about this being a done deal all afternoon, yet considering how they also said that Jay Cutler signing with the Redskins was a done deal as well, I waited until another source had the story.

Raiders sign QB Jeff Garcia

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — Quarterback Jeff Garcia is returning to the Bay Area after agreeing to a deal with the Oakland Raiders.

Raiders senior executive John Herrera told The Associated Press that the four-time Pro Bowler will join the club's offseason workout program immediately alongside starter JaMarcus Russell.

Garcia spent the past two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, starting 24 games and leading them to the playoffs, but wasn't re-signed by the club.

The 39-year-old quarterback enjoyed the best seasons of his NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers, passing for more than 16,000 yards from 1999-2003.

Beat ya to it chef!

Anyways, I think JaMarcus will implode around week 6 and Garcia will be named starter.

Maybe this keeps JaMarcus from getting one of his so called minor injuries and getting carted off the field while adjusting his do rag and earring.

This really can only end badly.

Even at 39 Garcia is better then Russell. Only thing is he really doesn't fit into the Raiders "Vertical" offence. But keep in mind that the Raiders sucks, so he is an upgrade. They are such a joke it is hard to even make fun of them anymore.....

We really need an NFL Offseason Thread to be stickied at the top of the sports section. ;)

Why Alex Smith still in San Fran?!?!

Because they have a guy named Shaun Hill, who could probably be a backup in the CFL. Smith and Hill will compete for the starter and I think Smith will be the starter come week 1, the 49ers are giving him one last chance.

He was 5-3 as a starter last season, 13TD 8INT 87.5QBR, ultimately leading the 49ers to a 7-9 record.

Who knows, those are decent numbers over 8 games, if Hill can stay this consistent and play 10-14 games, the 49ers might be able to take advantage of such a weak NFC West, even win it with a 8-8, or 9-7 record.
