View Full Version : Favorite music after a toke

Thought it would be interesting to see what the green enthusiasts around here prefer to listen to after some of that devil's lettuce.

Personally I enjoy the following

Van Halen- Of course, no musical list would be complete without the boys, plus knowing all the words the whatever song comes up on the random play is a huge bonus

Yes- Very technical and layered, you can really dive into their music and zone out

Steely Dan- Along the same lines as Yes, but jazzier and less fantastic than the prior, but the sheer musicianship and talent makes for a great listen

New York Dolls/Early Punk bands- New York Dolls is just really fun music, and it is fun to listen and realize that this weird, off-kilter band is actually one of the most influential bands ever. Early Punk such as The Damned, Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers, Stiv Bators, etc. etc.

Steve Vai- (Flex-able) When it comes to instrumentals I have always like Vai, but not as much for his amazing guitar repertoire but for his first album flex-able which I think is a work of genius, I wish Vai would have stayed that creative

David Lee Roth- Just pick a solo album and sit back, whether it is your favorite DLR album or not a quick listen will put you in a great mood

Eagles Of Death Metal- A great 'newer' band, founded by Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age/ Kyuss) EODM has old school flair mixed with newer sounds that makes up a great sound, Homme is awesome musically considering everything he touches ends up being successful, and being a part of one of the biggest stoner bands ever in Kyuss

Rap- Yes I like rap, I doubt many others around here like rap/hip-hop but throw on some NWA, Snoop Dogg, or even newer rap such as UGK, Jay-Z, or Lupe Fiasco. No Lil Wayne for me though

I'll stop here, even though I know I will probably think of 100 things I missed, but fuck it.

Seriously, if you are of the opportunity to purchase some high-end weed that will cut your knees out from under you, and therefore pin your ass to the couch, then I have a "two-fer" for your home entertainment system.

Rather than dinging your dong switching tracks on your stereo, put in this DVD.

http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/829/aabbb.jpg (http://img262.imageshack.us/my.php?image=aabbb.jpg)

The film is about a group of men thrown together by last chances, that must transport two trucks full of dynamite through a rain forest. The music is provided by Tangerine Dream.

Here is a hint...

And it's creeping me the fuck out. I blame Brian Eno for my relapse. No, that's not true I'm getting high in solidarity with the people of Egypt and Iran. Yeah, believe that.

Back in the day - EVERYTHING of a rock music twist was enhanced by partaking of smokage .
Today - my long time love affair with the 1968 - 1981 era of the Stones and most Robin Trower is suffice .
Funny , I had this same conversation amongst friends recently . We all agree that Trower music is just way too stoney .

P.S. No (c)rap or hip-hop . As a Rocker , I just can't bring myself to insult the time honored ceremony and tradition

Definitely! Saw this is the used CD bin and had to have it. Yes as for all of you pseudo-music snobs, you can call it "prog jazz" but that would just as much as a misnomer as Brazilian high art jazz. Some interesting and complex arrangements from a young Eumir - played a young(er) Billy Cobham Stanley Clarke and John Tropea whose solo phrasing is immense. Apart from Zarathustra being the "hit single" I think a lot of critics are wrong when they claim it overshadows the rest to the record; if Prelude has any flaws it's the fact the instrumentation (and recording techniques of the day) sound so dated rendering Rudy Van Gelder's production a little dry. Still there is a groove on this record that no one else can come close to matching. Head music? Hardly but it does engage the neuro thought processes altering initial perceptions under the cannabinoid receptor/influence in a funky way never before possible. Highly recommended for such a task.
