When the going gets weird…the weird roll doubles twice in a row?

The late Dr. Hunter S. Thompson’s most enduring work is getting a new lease on life, courtesy of Los Angeles-based “freelance designer” Jonathan Baldwin’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: The Board Game. The one-of-a-kind piece recreates the trip from Baker to Barstow and into the main nerve of the American Dream with activities, challenges and – of course – illicit substances. For instance, one might have to “speak only in the third person for 20 minutes,” while under the effects of mescaline or, better yet, DMT. And, just as in the tale of Raoul Duke and Dr. Gonzo, the participants will eventually be forced to take their adventure out of the house and into public realm – exactly where every ether-fueled madman with an appetite for adrenochrome belongs.

Sadly, there’s no cards calling for “carving a little Z” into the forehead of a business associate and the substances included are imitation only, but the whole she-bang comes packaged in a suitcase that very clearly recalls the “serious drug collection” that precipitates the events of both the 1972 novel/memoir and director Terry Gilliam’s 1998 film adaptation. And it’ll only run you thirty-five hundred bucks.

Think of it as a chemistry set for gonzo enthusiasts everywhere, but, remember to heed the Good Doctor Thompson’s words of warning before diving headlong into a weekend of excess:

"[Our] trip was different. It was a classic affirmation of everything right and true and decent in the national character. It was a gross, physical salute to the fantastic possibles of life in this country - but only for those with true grit. And we were chock full of that."
