CANYON, Texas -- Former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf has surrendered to Texas authorities to face burglary and drug-related charges.

Leaf's attorney, Bill Kelly, says Leaf turned himself in Friday at the Randall County Jail in Canyon, where the former No. 2 pick was indicted in May after coaching quarterbacks at West Texas A&M for three seasons. Kelly says Leaf posted $15,000 bail and headed back to Washington state.

Leaf faces one count of burglary and eight drug-related counts associated with the painkiller Hydrocodone. He was arrested Wednesday in Washington state after entering the U.S. from Canada. He posted bond there and flew to Texas.

San Diego drafted Leaf out of Washington State in 1998 and the Chargers released him after three disastrous seasons. He played part of one year for the Dallas Cowboys.

Leaf also was the golf coach at West Texas A&M before resigning in November amid a drug investigation.

He faces one count of burglary to a habitation, a second-degree felony, seven counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and one count of delivery of a simulated controlled substance. Authorities allege he broke into the apartment of an injured football player and took Hydrocodone.

Leaf had 14 touchdowns and 36 interceptions during a four-year NFL career marred by outbursts directed at team executives, fans and reporters.

What's fucked up about this, is the fact that he is still very wealthy. Supposedly, he took care of his money and didn't make poor financial decisions. Go figure, with his track record, you would think he would be broke. Why couldn't he just go to the doctor and complain about back pain?

That's probably why he went to Canada. Hell, at least you can get coedine without a prescription up there.

When he first signed with San Diego, he received 11 million upfront bonus. Plus whatever his contract salary was for the first couple years. The one thing Ryan did right was he married Nicole Lucia. First, she was smoking hot. I mean, incredibly hot. Can't even really describe how great she looked. Second, her dad is Ray Lucia. Famed money & wealth manager. If you have any money, Ray Lucia is the guy to advise you what to do with it. I'm sure Ray squirreled away tons for Ryan so he would have a source of income for life just from his bonus.

Although I think Ryan Leaf is a piece of shit, I'm not blaming this one on him 100%. Pain killers are the devil and God all mixed up in one little magical pill. Hope he gets the help he needs to get away from them. Just keep him away from my Chargers.

Hydrocodone = Vicodin

Yeah, no kidding. Rivers is the best QB they have had since Dan Fouts retired. My NFL preseason magazine has the Chargers winning it all over the Eagles.

"Ryan Leaf", Talk about someone’s life going in the shitter!
He was great in college and went in the top 3 picks in the 98 NFL draft and was the starter in San Diego and sucked ass and acted like a fuckhead. I don't think he had much money to his name. I bet the Colts are happy that they gambled and took Manning!

What a loser he turned out to be. 11 million USF to being broke, no career? WTF.....how do people screw up so bad?
Now, going to be doing time. So much potential to nothing.
