...Is it the Fair Warning-era kit that's been in the Hollywood location's training room since back in the day?

Or is it in fact merely the kit Travis Barker (http://www.rhythmmag.co.uk/page/rhythm?entry=namm_08_rhythm_s_show) used while Blink 182 were on hiatus?

hahaha, no.

Jay, yes. This is the real thing!

I made a huge post, linked pics, and this site was fucking cookie-fucked again I lost my whole train of thought on it.

You locals, go see it. I'll get pics the next time I go, explaining the details about it's construction.

The most important thing about this is, the "blue-olive" badge era.. is that the Niles, Illinois era?

= I have some shells like that an 18x18 and a 20x20 floor toms, and the plies are honduras mahogany inner ply/poplar center/honduras mahog outer ply.

The B&W kit, you can't tell what it is, but if they're the same era (67-82) then you know those shells are feather-lite.

Here's the secret: what they did, whoever did this kit custom like that (Alex and his techs, or the Ludwig factory) they STRENGTHENED the inside of the shells with a single-layup of fiberglas cloth and resin, then painted flat white.

I have never seen that before. I know Fibes and Sonor had done shells completely in fiberglas and they don't sound too bad yet they kinda lack the resonance of the real jazzy lightweight wood.

And then you look in thru the heads, and you see closely the threads of the fiberglas cloth matte layed up inside.

I don't know what to make of 'em.

First of all, they don't make shells like this anymore I don't think, all I've seen anymore are maple/maple/maple plies (you can see and count the layers thru a clear head at the bearing edge..).

Second, the way Alex pounds things I can see that the fiberglas would help support heavy useage from the inside by preventing any torsion or flexion top-bottom or side-side being thrown around on tours and such. This makes perfect sense.

Third, the black n white strips are factory nitro or ABS glossy sheet strips with such tightly-glued edges, they look like factory. So I don't think Alex would have done this, if he did he and his tech would have to be really really skilled at it.

We'll get some pics up shortly..

Oh - I was gonna say, does the factory do weird, one-off custom bullshit like this for eccentric artists?

I'll ask the guys at Pro Drum about this, they would know. They know all this stuff, particularly about the fiberglas reinforcement, and did it happen at the factory or was it a repair solution that sounded so good all the shells were done in it?

Had Roth jumped off one and cracked the shit out of it, causing this development of the added fiberglas?

.. also, on this last Roth tour, I noticed "bird spikes" wrapped on the stage-right bass drum, from what I could see. Was this to keep Roth from leaping off the shells?

If so that would be HILARIOUS. This kit brings up so many questions without answers, it really is that intersting.

I imagine they would do that for somebody like Alex. You know, someone with unlimited cash.

Is there a lawsuit?

Blink 182 are big CVH fans! I saw them at Sea World when they just hit the charts and the guitar player says "I want to play just like EVH" and starts tapping out a few bars!

I took my nephew to see "SmashMouth" about 10 years ago in Cleveland.
They closed there set with "Running with the devil"
Very cool.

Is there a lawsuit?

More of a cease and desist order. A couple of years ago, Travis Barker introduced a clothing line (Famous Stars and Straps (http://www.famoussas.com/)) that featured the red, white and black stripe EVH motif on several shirts, hats and doo-rags. Within a very short time, all of these items were suddenly and mysteriously discontinued.

The website itself is being redone, yet you can see much of the merchandise available currently here: Advanced Search at DrJays.com (http://search.drjays.com/search?cmd=main&keywords=stars%20%26%20straps&x=0&y=0&network=performics&link=stars%20and%20straps%20all&cm_mmc=Performics-_-HM%20(k145154)-_-Text%20(NO)-_-stars%20and%20straps%20all%20(j27631689)

I just dont get how a court can uphold any of this whole stripe thing.
Because basically they are all different. Plus i could see it if it had "just guitars" but everything?

Thats like Hienz owning the color red.
Does that mean that brick factories would have to make them blue?
