Dunno about genuis, or political activist and not really onboard with the St.Lennon mythologizing, but he had talent and wrote a lot of great songs.

I had just purchased Double Fantasy and was Down with John getting back in the studio with the Beatles. I thought if thier was ever a chance it was now so, I was hurt when he was killed.

I don't know if it was for selfish reasons or for his life that I was knocked over about or my musical wishes.

I still don't know.

I also bought Milk and Honey when it came out a couple years later.

I wasn't ,"go to the hotel and vigil" knocked out, but I was visibly upset about his death.

I don't see any of these Stars as more than just men but Lennons words however, "for the moment"were laced with a real need for some undestanding between the masses.

That just never will be.

Better yet, Chapman should have just turned the gun on himself.

What the fuck did John Lennon ever do to Chapman? Nothing.

Chapman was (in his own words) a nobody. A loser who craved notoriety, and was just plain jealous of Lennon's fame and wealth. So Chapman figured if he was gonna be a loser, at least he could be a memorable loser and attach his name to Lennon's forever.

I personally don't think much of what ended up on Double Fantasy or Milk And Honey was evidence of some great comeback by Lennon, but the tragedy was that of killing Lennon in front of his wife and robbing Lennon's young son of his father more than whatever music Lennon was going to come up with down the line.

Saw a documentray recently on Chapman, and just sitting there listening to the guy tell how sorry he was about what he did, while pictures of him smirking in prison were flashed on the screen...that fucker has no remorse AT ALL.

Would have hurt Chapman more if nobody had mentioned his name at all; if he had derived no celebrity status from his deeds...

I dunno. I know I'm ranting on here, but Chapman and his celebrity killer ilk (John Hinkley, Jr, Robert Bardo, Sirhan Sirhan) just piss me right the fuck off.

Unreal how time moves so quickly. By the way, the person that told me about Lennon's assassination was none other than Howard Cosell, during a MNF game between my beloved Dolphins and the NE Patriots. The next morning as I drove to work, Beatles tunes were all over the radio. The normally bustling with activity shopping center was silent as I approached it. Throughout the day, complete strangers nodded quietly to each other or openly embraced. I recall going to the local newsstand and buying every out of town paper I could find, somehow hoping the news would be different. It was not to be.

This wasn't like losing a distant relative I barely knew from cards received during holidays. This was a person I guess I imagined as a friend, so deep were the "conversations" we'd had via his music. As a result, the man's senseless murder changed me in many ways. Paradoxically, I am more angry and bitter while at the same time more forgiving and understanding of the underdog. Most of all, saddened, as the world was deprived of further beauty.

I felt like the Under Dog had won a victory with John's new album riding high in the Charts. To have it suddenly all taken away like that.....hard lesson in reality for a young kid who was obsessed with music.

reading the various books about John opened my eyes to the type of person he was but never diminished my love of his music.

RIP John!!!!
