That's the thing.....pop country sucks, real country fucking kicks ass. That guitar player is awesome.

On a side note, Merle was in prison before he made it big.....you gotta live it before you can write it.

I stumbled on this great song just minutes ago...

Always appreciated the Grateful Dead's take on "Mama Tried". Weir's vocal, and Jerry's lead guitar, which sounds more countrified than the guy Merle had, oddly enough...

Keith Richards is also a Merle Haggard fan...

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1MTFwvMzH-0&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1MTFwvMzH-0&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Though it's a tough call on this one.... Keith or Jerry?

Yeah, The Dead's version of Mama Tried sounds way more rockabilly...

That's a cool clip. The old time clock in the background is actually working.

It's the same on the Willie clips I posted...
