Does anyone know the lyrics to the song "Thug Pop" off the Diamond Dave album?

I can't find them for the life of me and I know that the lyrics I'm singing to that song aren't even close to what Dave is actually singing.

Can anyone help me?

Well, WARF tried to put the lyrics together by asking everyone to pitch in, I believe.

If I remember correctly, last time I checked, there was a couple of contributions, but it was years ago.

Try searching for it, it's in this exact forum, VH/DLR Songs And Albums.

Cheers! :bottle:

Okay, since I can't find the official lyrics, I've tried my own luck. I know I've got some of the words wrong (particularly in the first verse) but it's closer than anything else I've managed to find anywhere else. Let me know what you think and discuss.

Here's my attempt:

THUG POP lyrics

[VERSE 1]
Hands out to your big ass,
Here's 100 beans a minute where the back says.
Thug Pop. Thug Pop.
Checks in people with her pants in a bunch,
James Dean and Hermie Fox!

(DLR scream)

[CHORUS]
People try to blame me,
Poets try the same.
I'm tryin to hear from the mildew
to the barbeque on a hellbound train...
Longshot? That's bitchin'
Served hot right from the rhythm kitchen.
Perhaps you know my name...

I'm called: Thug Pop. Thug Pop.

[VERSE 2]
When the resurrection comes,
there'll be a two drink minimum.
Thug Pop. Thug Pop.
Are you ready for some freestyle?
Undress, stay awhile.

All right, let's go to the back!

Woo!

[CHORUS]
People try to blame me,
Poets try the same.
I'm tryin to hear from the mildew
to the barbeque on a hellbound train...
Longshot? That's bitchin'
Served hot right from the rhythm kitchen.
Perhaps you know my name...

(musical interlude)

(classic DLR screams)

[CHORUS]
People try to blame me,
Poets try the same.
I'm tryin to hear from the mildew
to the barbeque on a hellbound train...
Longshot? That's bitchin'
Served hot right from the rhythm kitchen.
Perhaps you know my name...

I'm called: Thug Pop.

Perhaps you know my name...

Perhaps you know my name...

I'm called: Thug Pop.

Well, I donīt speak in english but I think the lyrics go: "hats off to your big ass, well, hereīs a 100 beats a minute worth of back sass"... and later says "nonstop, thats bitchin, served hot right from the rythm kitchen"
Thatīs what an uruguayan boy hears!

I went back and listened to the song again and you seem to be correct with the first verse. It's certainly closer than my initial deciphering. But I can conclude with absolute uncertainty that the lyric is not "Nonstop" before "that's bitchin". The word really sounds like it's starting with an "L". If it's not "Longshot" then it may be "Love a shot" or something like that.

Thanks for all contirbutions thus far.

Anyone else?

Man.... I did all the rudimentary searches, and you are right, cant see
the original lyrics anywhere. Was it ever released on a media where the
lyrics may have been printed on the "album" cover ??

The band I play in is trying to learn Cruel Obsession, which I think is a great unreleased tune.

This is what we can make out as the lyrics, any thoughts would be helpful.

Thanks!

Intro
Verse 1
Stone glove a heart of steel
Are exactly what I wish I had
Lost control of my destiny
Turned back at it with a slap and a bang

Pre-Chorus
Oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh

Chorus 1
This cruel obsession
Gotta hold on me

Verse 2
She opened the door shut
And swallowed the key
I'm staring at the walls
With this cruel obsession

Verse 3
She made a course inside of me
My friends say I haven't been the same
I've gone mad is what they believe
Because I will be glad to just be her slave

Pre-Chorus
Oh oh oh oh oh

Chorus 2
This cruel obsession
Got it's hooks on me

Post Chorus
She gives me a inch but never the mile
I'm staring at the walls with this Cruel Obsession

Verse 4
Maybe one day the tables will turn
And she'll be wearing my cruel shoes
Till that day I will be down on my knees
Praying that my mind is all that I lost

Pre solo
Yeah yeah yeah

Guitar Solo

Verse 5
Hot turn, and cold shoulders
Someday going to break my neck
What she seems is what I deserve
She made me a masochistic wreck

Pre Chorus
Oh oh oh oh oh

Chorus 3
This cruel obsession
Got it's jaws on me

Post Chorus
She opened the door shut and swallowed the key
I'm staring at the walls with this Cruel Obsession

This Cruel Obsession
Cruel Obsession
Cruel Obsession
Cruel Obsession
Yeah yeah yeah yeah

This site has a good collection of Roth lyrics (including the Spanish version of the EEAS album), but the section for the Diamond Dave album is blank except for "Ice Cream Man".

Nice to see how somebody copy/pasted my deciphering of the "Thug Pop" lyrics (misinterpretations and all) and didn't give me any credit.

That stinks man, particularly if you have taken the initiative to decipher the content, and then went on to offer it in good faith. It annoys the crap out of me when folks offer "information", yet fail to include the source of it's origin.

In a positive aside, you might consider contacting the site with a slightly updated version of your own work (change a stanza or two, modify the pronunciation in places), then include your own name as the reference. In this manner, you would get the credit for your own work, and it is highly doubtful that the plagiarist would attempt argument.

Just had a thought about this, probably too late, but theres a shitload
of software out there now that will slowdown a song without changing
its pitch. Could be helpful in these situations ?

Good lyrical suggestions, gang. I won't bother trying to correct any of my lyrics until w get absolute proof as to what the actual lyrics are. "Hats off to ya biggots" sounds good to me, though. Again, any and all help on these lyrics are appreciated.
