I know this isn’t VH/DLR related, but I thought I’d post this and see what everyone thinks. I know these are autographed and maybe was worn by MJ and with his death might be worth money and who knows if they are even real, but even if they are $20 Million, nothing is worth fucking that I don’t care what it is. Yet, there are currently 116 offers with 4 days left! I wish I had that kind of money to burn on this bullshit!

I will try linking the ebay auction page, I’m not good with links, but if it doesn’t post I’ll try again. Well here is the Description from the auction.

"THIS IS THE OPPORTUNITY OF A LIFETIME!

Michael Jackson wore these shoes in concert during his tour in the U.S.
Where he performed "Billie Jean" from his Thriller album
These are the shoes that made the Moonwalk famous.

Both shoes are autographed and were handmade specifically for Michael.

The shoes were purchased during a charity auction, and were donated by the founder/owner/CEO of Planet Hollywood, Robert Earl.

Well, The shoes are gone!

Someone actually bought them "Buy it now". It's amazing someone would actually spend that on a MJ pair of shoes no matter how much money you have!

Would the buyer be able to write off the purchase price as a charitable donation? I see guys like Bill Gates giving away this much money sometimes. If you're going to do it, might as well get a collectible from it.

I would imagine so...

This also could be a guy that bought it from himself. Happens a lot. Auction an item really high, have a buddy bid & win. Now you have set a precedent for the value of said item. Insurance money, reselling later, whatever...you have your falsely inflated value to go by.

At 10 million due the organization, they are gonna come knocking for their cut as advertised for sure, but remember the sellers fees due, too!

Ebay averages about 22 percent for crap around 500 bucks.. it's gonna be lower in the upper pricing but still 10 percent of 20 mill is 2mil. I doubt if it was a hoax he'd be willing to pay the 2 mill just for perpetrating a hoax.

This will make news come tomorrow!

And ordinarily I would say this doesnt' belong in the Gear forum, but actually it does.

MJ wasn't known so much to make any money without those shoes on stage, so they're really really symbolic.

Well, buyer gets 30 days to pay, then a non payer complaint could be filed. Or they could unanimously decide to cancel transaction for a variety of reasons (buyer & seller). Then eBay refunds most fees. At least the selling fees anyways. You still are stuck with the original listing fee but get to relist for free. Just don't be surprised if this is relisted soon due to buyer backing out for some bogus reason.

As for the shoes, I'm a little surprised at their modesty. Pretty plain shoes. Although if story is true, did some very monumental things.

I thought because the seller only had 5 total transactions...

Is it even possible or sensible to pay $20 million by paypal?

I paid a few grand once and the fees really start to mount up.

ELVIS

No. Anything over $5000 has to go through certain ebay channels, so...

The most I paid on ebay was $2800 but I picked the item up myself and paid cash...

It would be interesting to see if the buyer is legit about paying and buying the shoes! So many auctions for over $2,000, you get bogus bids and the winner isn’t serious about purchasing the item. If you can afford to throw $20 million on something like a pair of shoes, you certainly can afford to fly in to pay and pickup item in person! If you dealing with that much money you might actually want to do the transaction at the bank, rather than relying on a Credit/debit card over the internet. Cash would be in convent to handle and personal, cashier checks and money orders are too unreliable. You wouldn’t want the item worth that much going threw the mail either in fear of getting lost or damage.

But the eBay fees on $10 mil would be stagering.

If the seller does that, he is a idiot, What would the whole point of listing it on ebay? You have the listing fee and the final sell fee.

Like you would wear 'em...

Why would anyone wear them? The buyer is probably going to lock them up in safe or display it somewhere never to be seen in sunlight.
