MotorTips: Lamborghini Countach replica is entirely built in basement (http://motortips.blogspot.com/2008/10/lamborghini-countach-replica-is.html)

The entire article and all pics can be seen at the link above. The guy built it in his basement, took 17 years, and when he got done, he had to hire a contractor to dig a hole at the side of the house, build a ramp, and take out a section of the basement wall to get the car out!

Sometimes car news get a little slow, but normally a great story emerges in such situations. Slow was how this week was going until the story of Ken Imhoff came up. He would look like an ordinary guy who lives in Wisconsin if he was not an skilled aluminum worker and a TIG welder. This helped him fulfill a dream that came upon with the movie "Cannonball Run": to built a brand new Lamborghini Countach replica with no ready kits help. It may sound the car is not good enough, but have a careful look at the picture below. Is this gorgeous or what?

And I thought it was ridiculous when I helped my old roommate build a "new" motorcycle out of two wrecked bikes in the living room of my apartment.

At least we didn't have to tear down a wall to get the finished bike out of the house. The grease spot on the carpet was pretty bad when we moved out though.

Which leads to the bigger question.........don't you think after 17 years someone would have said, "How do you plan to get the car out of the basement after it's done?".

And now Lamborghini is suing him for copyright infringement... :)

Now THAT is some amazing shit. His friends must've thought he was fucking nuts..
"Yeah, I'm gonna build my own Lambo...In my basement!"
Kudos to the dude. Christ I've been building my "Frankenstein" replica for 2 months now and I think that's a long friggin time!

Back in the day I worked briefly as a sheet-metal god for a very famous business-jet manufacturer who shall remain nameless....

We always used to joke about sneaking a jet out of the factory one part at a time.

Kinda like the old song Johnny Cash wrote about smuggling a Cadillac out of the factory a piece at a time over 20 years or some stuff....

It's amazing how much respect you can have for someone who has invested so much effort in something so entirely pointless.

Amazing dedication.

Pointless? He could get at least $50,000 were he to put it up for auction....

I would say that is reason enough, though he claims he did it as a labor of love....

I have a 1979 LP 400S Countach. The Cylendar linings had gone loose due to some fool reving the shit out of a cold engine. It also had some damage on the front right side. The skin is aircraft aluminum built over a tubular frame with a fiberglass floor pan. Tuning six carberators is a bitch and it hates ethanol in the gasoline and loves 100 octane aviation fuel. :D

The first time I changed the oil on a Countach I made a mess. They hold about 18 liters of oil in a wet sump that lubricates both the transmission and engine like a motorcycle. I have a pit in my barn where I work under cars and when I pulled the plug, 18 liters of hot synthetic Amsoil went all over the fucking place shooting out over the catch funnel.

Mine is white and has the big spoiler on the back. I had to replace the front headlight and what a fucking bitch to find one and then paying for it.

Man I was just kidding. I wish that car was mine, but it belongs to a neighbor of a friend. Had a 'Trump' emblem with 199something date inside the drivers door. The dude purchased it from Donald Trump's people and said he ended up putting in 40k in restoration.
Whatever the case may be it was like strapping on a fighter jet.

What about the drivetrain. Is it replicated as well?
