Terrence Trent D'arby? Fucking hell..........

Dolemite!
07-31-2009, 06:28 AM
D'arby is quite a diverse and interesting artist, he hated towing the record company line to the extent that he now releases all his music independently. After his debut he bombed with his follow up because it was not at all commercial.

binnie

Not being commercial doesn't mean that it's any good though does it? Each to there own I guess but D'arby has always baffled me...........

It doesn't, but it's good.

Like Binnie said, it is the variety of opinion that makes this board great. I tried to get into different music in the 90's and i just couldn't do it. I just couldn't accept Nirvana, Soundgarden, Jane's Addiction, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, etc. I had friends that loved them and swore by them but i could only listen and grate my teeth. When the 80's ended it seemed like it took my soul with it. I can still follow the bands that i loved then and check out their new stuff but it is difficult for me to like current music.

I had always assumed Love/Hate were just another bullshit 80's band but they had a cool GNR kind of vibe going on with that debut--and they could play too!

I like Core but my favorite from STP has got to be Tiny Music.

Das right nigga! The Human Tornadaaaa!

I could never get into Tiny Music though I've given it many tries.

I thought Love/Hate showed an evolution from hard rock to something like Alice in Chains. There's a similarity of sound between that album and say Facelift. I say you didn't need grunge, the next phase of rock happened naturally without it.
