Oregon Suspends Blount for Season
By Connor Ennis
Oregon has suspended running back LeGarrette Blount for the rest of the season after he punched a Boise State player following the Ducks’ loss Thursday night. The suspension will include any possible bowl game, the school said.
After punching the Broncos’ Byron Hout, Blount then hit a teammate, tried to fight some Boise fans and was restrained by teammates and security officers.
In the immediate aftermath, Oregon’s athletic director, Mike Bellotti, noted that any disciplinary action would be up to the university, since the incident happened after the game. On Friday, Bellotti, Coach Chip Kelly and the university administration had decided that Blount’s actions demanded the stiff punishment.
Hout appeared to be taunting Blount before the punch, but a Boise State spokesman told The Associated Press in an e-mail message Friday that Coach Chris Petersen would not suspend Hout. Instead, Petersen will spend time with Hout this week to help him learn from what happened.
