Hey, I remember watching these cartoons along with the Tom And Jerry ones. :D Still funny after all these years.

Yeah, they're still my favourite cartoons. I guess it's because back then, since noone cared much about political correctness, you could go a lot farther with a joke than you can now.

And though racism, xenophobia, sexism, sexual deviance, etc. are not things to be endorsed, they ARE to be made FUN OF.

'Cause humour exists so we can laugh at bad things.

In no way I'd stop a woman from driving. Ever. But I'll make a ton of jokes about that stereotype, just like in those cartoons.

PC & humour don't mix. And for me, humour wins all the time.

It even gets to the point where I missed lots of opportunities to get laid, because there was a grate joke poking at me at the wrong time... :lol:

Of course I had to laugh afterwards.

Wow, it turned into a ramble. Let's make up for it.

Edit: Watching that, another reason for things being funnier back then springs to mind. Noone bothered explaining jokes, or making sure you spotted them. You either got 'em or you didn't.

Nowadays, "comedians" want to make sure you understand, so they'll explain it all very well before the punchline. When they do deliver it, the joke's already stale.

Wouldn't it be more important to have good manners and be polite to each other than to be PC? Racists these days are good at hiding their feelings. You could be working side by side with one everyday and not know it.

As for other examples of PC, do we really need to change the word "retarded" to "mentally-challenged?" If you're short, you're short. "Vertically-challenged??" :umm: But I have to admit that I prefer to say "bathroom tissue" over "toilet paper" because TP sounds crude.

You're spot on. When making a joke - at least for me - EVERYTHING is allowed. The stronger, the better. But only in jokes.

I make fun of all stereotypes, and people are rarely insulted at my jokes. Because I only tell them to the people who know me, and they know I respect them. A lot.

It's when you really hate some race or nationlity, or whatever, that the problem exists. But that's a whole other issue, and PC jokes will NOT solve it.

As for the last part, there's something that came up quite unexpectedly - making fun of not the stereotypes, but of the political correctness itself.

Nowadays, I say "coloured young man" instead of black guy because it's funnier. Or "mentally sluggish", or other variants. I'm making fun of the PC. But "bathroom tissue" is a first for me. British have lots of expressions for that, though. Loo paper, bog roll, etc.

I like bog roll. Kinda funny.

Anyways, if people respect one another, hard jokes are not insulting. PC jokes, however, are. They try to hide the issue instead of solving it. THAT is insulting.

I found out from YouTube. The original was sung by Louis Jordan in the '40s and written by Louis Jordan and Billy Austin. I read somewhere else that some say Tom's voice is/was actually Fred Quimby's.

Ah, bless you. There's so many covers of this song on YouTube, I must've skipped this one. Now, thanks to that little name, Louis Jordan, I gots it.
