Yup! Just picking it up. Now, you might ask, "Nick, why the fuck would you buy a Sony Playstation 1? Are you poor like Kenny? The PS3 is now less than $300!"

Well, I have my reasons.

And I'm not telling! So piss off!! :)

So, why did I buy a Sony PS1?:umm:

The original classic PS1 mind you, not that slimmed down gay shiite one they came out with later. This should augment my barely working PS2 (which I haven't played in about two years) and satiate my desire to buy a PS3 a bit (not really into many of the games except for the first person shooters like Call of Duty, or realistic flight simulators as I hate the kiddie arcade shit!)...

I completed the second.

I think it took me about 80 hours which is why I try and avoid these things nowadays.

Instead I stupidly end up shitting away time on crappy online games instead of the latest great ones which is kind of like the EVH approach to addiction...

You must know that you can get and run all the PS1 stuff for free on your PC?

I suppose though that the PS1 stuff will be so cheap to buy for real it's less hassle.

I like retro gaming better than gaming on all the new systems, except I download emulators on the net and play the games from all the different systems on my computer. NES is still my favorite system of them all...it never gets old!

Took me about the same time as well..

I was hooked on the Vampire game on Sociotardbook.com till they banned my fake name account. That broke the spell for me - I didn't even use it for sociotarding.. just that stupid game!

I think the reason he's PS1-ing is he found a way to chip it and burn free games!

Hey NICK welcome to 1996 all over again~!!

i'm running custom firmware on my PSP and play classic emulators more than "official" games.

I totally got sucked into Ace Combat Distant Thunder on the PS2,
It triggered my OCD bigtime.. I did finish the game, that last level
with the pyramids and shit was a prick.
Great game !

Im almost too scared to ask, but did they bring out a new version
of this game for PS3 ??

I dont have a PS3 at the moment..

What I do have..

-Original Nintendo console and games (Mike Tyosns Knockout was my fave)
-Original Atari console and games ( Superman and yep Space Invaders my faves)
-Original Sega console (Mega Sonic !!!!)
-Original Play Station and PS2

(Not including PC games like Quake and Doom)

I stopped at this point, but I still have all these old working consoles.
Ace Combat was the last great adventure I went on....
That was the shiznit, but I think I really should be banging my partner,
working or actually playing guitar instead.... And playing with my son !!!

You know what its like.......

Well, I do need a lot of help in that dept. :)

Anyhoo, buying the PS1 has nothing to do with gaming, because Ironically, it seems that although its very dated early 1990s video game tech, the system has turned out to be an audiophile's dream of a topnotch CD player that supposedly rivals the sound of top-end audiophile CD players costing $5000 or more. So, ironically, people are patching a 15 year old video game console into their systems costing in some cases tens of thousand$...

http://www.stereophile.com/cdplayers/708play/

There is some skepticism, but with a few mods they're suppose to be spectacularly good...

Where did you buy the Atari one from? I have NES and SNES usb controllers that I bought on ebay, and they work great!

Loved the Tecmo football game that was made for PS1.
But then again the ones from Nintendo were great.

I just now read this thread. I had heard this about the PS-1 years ago.

Please let us know the results of your use of the thing.

How much you pay? Are they selling for artificially high prices due to scarcity?

Does the PS-1 also play Sony's Super Audio CD format?

Seems like I read that somewhere years ago.

Don't know how many CD's you can actually find in that format though. I know Sony released some titles from their own catalog, but the only place I ever saw them for sale was Circuit City (which no longer exists) and they weren't even there very long.

And there's the Rolling Stones ABKCO catalog from the 60's, which was remastered on dual layer SACD/regular CD in 2002, but they only issued one pressing of that catalog, and they're getting harder to find.

maybe the PS2 played the SACD, i don't remember. pretty sure the Sony upconverting DVD player i have and don't use plays 'em.

And I would still have my N64 if my brother hadn't taken the liberty of loaning it to his friend. I never saw my beloved N64 again. :(

I have no idea if the PS1 plays SACD, but I did see some recently at the local Best Buy, which isn't that old...

I've a Yamaha DVD player that plays DVD-Audio. Boy, this format is really going to be big!

SO that's all it is, about an ADAC converter chip that plays audio just a little better than.. what?

Fourty-dollar DVD player doesn't have superior ADACs to a Playstation 1 by now or what?
