<div class="medtext"><br /><br /><b><font size="4">Michael Moore's Action Plan: 15 Things Every American Can Do Right Now"</font><br /><br />You've Seen the Movie -- Now It's Time to ACT!</b><br /><br />Thursday, October 22, 2009<br /><br />Friends,<br /><br />It's the #1 question I'm constantly asked after people see my movie: "OK -- so NOW what can I DO?!"<br /><br />You want something to do? Well, you've come to the right place! 'Cause I got 15 things you and I can do right now to fight back and try to fix this very broken system.<br /><br />Here they are:<br /><br /><b>FIVE THINGS WE DEMAND THE PRESIDENT AND CONGRESS DO IMMEDIATELY:<br /><br />1. Declare a moratorium on all home evictions.</b> Not one more family should be thrown out of their home. The banks must adjust their monthly mortgage payments to be in line with what people's homes are now truly worth -- and what they can afford. Also, it must be stated by law: If you lose your job, you cannot be tossed out of your home.<br /><br /><b>2. Congress must join the civilized world and expand Medicare For All Americans. </b>A single, nonprofit source must run a universal health care system that covers everyone. Medical bills are now the #1 cause of bankruptcies and evictions in this country. Medicare For All will end this misery. The bill to make this happen is called H.R. 3200. You must <a href="http://www.pnhp.org/amendment/" target="_blank">call AND write your members of Congress and demand its passage</a>, no compromises allowed.<br /><br /><b>3. Demand publicly-funded elections and a prohibition on elected officials leaving office and becoming lobbyists. </b>Yes, those very members of Congress who solicit and receive millions of dollars from wealthy interests must vote to remove ALL money from our electoral and legislative process. <a href="http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h1826/show" target="_blank">Tell your members of Congress they must support campaign finance bill H.R.1826</a>.<br /><br /><b>4. Each of the 50 states must create a state-owned public bank like they have in North Dakota. </b>Then congress MUST reinstate all the strict pre-Reagan regulations on all commercial banks, investment firms, insurance companies -- and all the other industries that have been savaged by deregulation: Airlines, the food industry, pharmaceutical companies -- you name it. If a company's primary motive to exist is to make a profit, then it needs a set of stringent rules to live by -- and the first rule is "Do no harm." The second rule: The question must always be asked -- "Is this for the common good?" (<a href="http://www.motherjones.com/mojo/2009/03/how-nation’s-only-state-owned-bank-became-envy-wall-street" target="_blank">Click here</a> for some info about the state-owned Bank of North Dakota.)<br /><br /><b>5. Save this fragile planet and declare that all the energy resources above and beneath the ground are owned collectively by all of us. </b>Just like they do it in Sarah Palin's socialist Alaska. We only have a few decades of oil left. The public must be the owners and landlords of the natural resources and energy that exists within our borders or we will descend further into corporate anarchy. And when it comes to burning fossil fuels to transport ourselves, we must cease using the internal combustion engine and instruct our auto/transportation companies to rehire our skilled workforce and build mass transit (clean buses, light rail, subways, bullet trains, etc.) and new cars that don't contribute to climate change. (For more on this, <a href="http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/mikes-letter/saving-the-big-3-for-you-and-me-a-message-from-michael-moore" target="_blank">here's a proposal I wrote</a> in December.) Demand that General Motors' de facto chairman, Barack Obama, issue a JFK man-on-the-moon-style challenge to turn our country into a nation of trains and buses and subways. For Pete's sake, people, we were the ones who invented (or perfected) these damn things in the first place!!<br /><br /><b>FIVE THINGS WE CAN DO TO MAKE CONGRESS AND THE PRESIDENT LISTEN TO US:</b><br /><br /><b>1. Each of us must get into the daily habit of taking 5 minutes to make four brief calls: </b>One to the President (<a href="http://www.whitehouse.gov/CONTACT/" target="_blank">202-456-1414</a>), one to your Congressperson (202-224-3121) and one to each of your two Senators (<a href="http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm" target="_blank">202-224-3121</a>). To find out who represents you, <a href="http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/" target="_blank">click here</a>. Take just one minute on each of these calls to let them know how you expect them to vote on a particular issue. Let them know you will have no hesitation voting for a primary opponent -- or even a candidate from another party -- if they don't do our bidding. Trust me, they will listen. If you have another five minutes, <a href="http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/" target="_blank">click here to send them each an email</a>. And if you really want to drop an anvil on them, <a href="http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/" target="_blank">send them a snail mail letter!</a><br /><br /><b>2. Take over your local Democratic Party. </b>Remember how much fun you had with all those friends and neighbors working together to get Barack Obama elected? YOU DID THE IMPOSSIBLE. It's time to re-up! Get everyone back together and go to the monthly meeting of your town or county Democratic Party -- and become the majority that runs it! There will not be many in attendance and they will either be happy or in shock that you and the Obama Revolution have entered the room looking like you mean business. President Obama's agenda will never happen without mass grass roots action -- and he won't feel encouraged to do the right thing if no one has his back, whether it's to stand with him, or push him in the right direction. When you all become the local Democratic Party, send me a photo of the group - <a href="mailto: " target="_blank">photos@michaelmoore.com</a> - and I'll post it on my website.<br /><br /><b>3. Recruit someone to run for office who can win in your local elections next year -- or, better yet, consider running for office yourself! </b>You don't have to settle for the incumbent who always expects to win. You can be our next representative! Don't believe it can happen? Check out these examples of regular citizens who got elected: <a href="http://www.rbf.org/annualreviews/annualreviews_show.htm?root_doc_id=907315&display_doc_id=940605&fullnav=2" target="_blank">State Senator Deb Simpson</a>, <a href="http://photos.essence.com/galleries/icdrm2008images4isadorehall" target="_blank">California State Assemblyman Isadore Hall</a>, <a href="http://www.tempe.gov/elected/woods.htm" target="_blank">Tempe, Arizona City Councilman Corey Woods</a>, <a href="http://www.votesmart.org/bio.php?can_id=67068" target="_blank">Wisconsin State Assemblyman Chris Danou</a>, and <a href="http://housedemocrats.wa.gov/members/Seaquist/" target="_blank">Washington State Representative Larry Seaquist</a>. The list goes on and on -- and you should be on it!<br /><br /><b>4. Show up.</b><b> <a href="http://projects.nytimes.com/creditcrisis/recipients/table" target="_blank">Picket the local branch of a big bank that took the bailout money.</a></b> Hold vigils and marches. Consider civil disobedience. Those town hall meetings are open to you, too (and there's more of us than there are of them!). <a href="http://www.showdowninchicago.org/" target="_blank">Make some noise</a>, have some fun, get on the local news. Place "Capitalism Did This" signs on empty foreclosed homes, closed down businesses, crumbling schools and infrastructure. (You can <a href="http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/must-read/spread-the-word-capitalism-did-this" target="_blank">download them from my website</a>.)<br /><br /><b>5. Start your own media.</b> You. Just you (or you and a couple friends). The mainstream media is owned by corporate America and, with few exceptions, it will never tell the whole truth -- so you have to do it! Start a blog! Start a website of real local news (here's an example: <a href="http://michiganmessenger.com/" target="_blank">The Michigan Messenger</a>). Tweet your friends and <a href="http://www.facebook.com" target="_blank">use Facebook</a> to let them know what they need to do politically. The daily papers are dying. If you don't fill that void, who will?<br /><br /><b>FIVE THINGS WE SHOULD DO TO PROTECT OURSELVES AND OUR LOVED ONES UNTIL WE GET THROUGH THIS MESS:</b><br /><br /><b>1. Take your money out of your bank</b> if <a href="http://projects.nytimes.com/creditcrisis/recipients/table" target="_blank">it took bailout money</a> and place it in a locally-owned bank or, preferably, a <a href="http://www.creditunion.coop/cu_locator/quickfind.php" target="_blank">credit union</a>.<br /><br /><b>2. <a href="http://emptywheel.firedoglake.com/2009/04/09/michael-moore-endorses-chase-boycott" target="_blank">Get rid of all your credit cards</a> but one</b> -- the kind where you have to pay up at the end of the month or you lose your card.<br /><br /><b>3. Do not invest in the stock market.</b> If you have any extra cash, put it away in a savings account or, if you can, pay down on your mortgage so you can own your home as soon as possible. You can also buy very safe government savings bonds or T-bills. Or just buy your mother some flowers.<br /><br /><b>4. Unionize your workplace so that you and your coworkers have a say in how your business is run. </b><a href="http://www.ueunion.org/org_steps.html" target="_blank">Here's how to do it</a> (<a href="http://www.aflcio.org/joinaunion/how/howto.cfm" target="_blank">more info here</a>). Nothing is more American than democracy, and democracy shouldn't be checked at the door when you enter your workplace. Another way to Americanize your workplace is to <a href="http://www.ncba.coop/abcoop_howto.cfm" target="_blank">turn your business into a worker-owned cooperative</a>. You are not a wage slave. You are a free person, and you giving up eight hours of your life every day to someone else is to be properly compensated and respected.<br /><br /><b>5. Take care of yourself and your family. </b>Sorry to go all Oprah on you, but she's right: Find a place of peace in your life and make the choice to be around people who are not full of negativity and cynicism. Look for those who nurture and love. Turn off the TV and the Blackberry and go for a 30-minute walk every day. Eat fruits and vegetables and cut down on anything that has sugar, high fructose corn syrup, white flour or too much sodium (salt) in it (and, as Michael Pollan says, "Eat (real) food, not too much, mostly plants"). Get seven hours of sleep each night and take the time to read a book a month. I know this sounds like I've turned into your grandma, but, dammit, take a good hard look at Granny -- she's fit, she's rested and she knows the names of both of her U.S. Senators without having to Google them. We might do well to listen to her. If we don't put our own "oxygen mask" on first (as they say on the airplane), we will be of no use to the rest of the nation in enacting any of this action plan!<br /><br />I'm sure there are many other ideas you can come up with on how we can build this movement. Get creative. Think outside the politics-as-usual box. BE SUBVERSIVE! Think of that local action no one else has tried. Behave as if your life depended on it. Be bold! Try doing something with reckless abandon. It may just liberate you and your community and your nation.<br /><br />And when you act, send me your stories, your photos and your video - <a href="mailto: " target="_blank">photos@michaelmoore.com</a> - and be sure to <a href="http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/mikes-letter/michael-moores-action-plan-15-things-every-american-can-do-right-now" target="_blank">post your ideas in the comments</a> beneath this letter on my site so they can be shared with millions.<br /><br />C'mon people -- we can do this! I expect nothing less of all of you, my true and trusted fellow travelers!<br /><br />Yours,<br />Michael Moore<br /><a href="mailto: " target="_blank">MMFlint@aol.com</a> <br />MichaelMoore.com<br /></div>

That is good solid action. Though, it should not be limited to democratic party. If something is working for the patriotic good of the American civilization, being good national neighbors, and cooperative in global community color should not matter. Red, blue, or green, if they work toward noble pursuits for civilizations and freedom from corruption, good 'em, :)

To me the telephone thing is nuts.

How is anyone going to get anything done if you have 100s of thousands of people calling them every day. So they then have to employ drones to listen to people whining on the same shit every day. And who pays for that? And what's the point?

Yeah...

Eliminate the combustion engine ??

And all the JOBS that go with it ??

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE GASOLINE COMBUSTION ENGINE!!!

The Hydrogen Stack is a good idea, but it's not about to replace internal combustion...

Actually we have the technology to get off of oil. NASA uses it all the time in the space program. The thing is those who own our politicians will lose a ton of money and power if we use the current technology the govt. sits on. Monsanto manufactures small devices that put out as much as two killawatts of power. These devices have been used in deep space probes since the 1970's. Each house could have one. Smaller ones could be used in cars. There would be no need for powerlines. The technology is solid state based and was developed in the 1960's. No it's not nuclear power.

People are trying to get this technology out but if you go to a venture capatalist or financial institution for financing, they end up taking it over and they sit on the technology. Also people have been killed and threatened. People are starting to really get fed up with the current world situation and it's obvious there is a group of wealthy/powerful people trying to keep us locked down into THEIR system that THEY control. Alternative energy that is affordable and works crushes their control.

It has been discussed turning this technology out for free like share ware software and have people develop it themselves. Of course unless this is wide spread the powers that be will stomp the fire out again. The money and governments are not on the side of the people on this.

There is no need to get off of oil...

If you like using a fuel controlled by a cartel and pollutes, go ahead and use your oil. Oil is best used as a chemical base instead of wasting what's left to burn as fuel. There will always be oil but it will get harder and more expensive to get at.

I live in an oil rich state. All of our oil comes from Wyoming but we still have to pay the world market price. Oil should be pennies here but we pay what the world market will bare. But our oil exports pay our taxes so no state income tax here.

He lost me right at number one.

Same.

You think that people should be evicted?

Some. It's completely wrong for someone who purchased a home for $500,000 to have a government forced mortgage restructure so that they only owe $200,000. Someone is losing $300,000 unfairly. Yeah, I know...the big mean mortgage company that forced them to buy the house at hat price. But what if the mortgage company is actually one of the honest ones? They loaned the $500k to buy the property for the new owners and allow them to make monthly payments for 30 years. They should lose 50% of what they paid out because the people bought more house than they could afford? Because people lost their jobs? Because the house declined in value?

Think of it Binnie. You agree to sell me a guitar for $500 and I'll pay you $10 per month. I lose my job through no fault of yours, and the market for guitars drops drastically. Now the government comes in and says "Binnie, Sadaist now only owes you $200 for that guitar and you can only charge him $4 per month. And you have to forget that he hasn't paid you in the last 12 months. And you're not allowed to repo your guitar."

In a normal world, I would give back the guitar, get a new job, and hopefully save up money to be able to buy it or another later down the road when I can afford it. Until then I'll go back to playing my beater guitar. Yeah, it sucks to go backwards, but that happens all the time in life.

1) There's not much oil left.

2) What little oil is left requires either

Killing a bunch of brown people half way across the world
Killing a bunch of caribou and polar bears in the rapidly melting Arctic
Inefficient extraction from reserves in sand and/or shale

None of these solutions make any fucking sense, and none of them provide a long term supply. And God isn't going to make any new dinosaurs and rapidly rot their corpses into the ground.

I wonder how many repossessed cars Cash For Clunkers will generate? So dumb America borrows from the Chinese to buy old cars so suckers can get into more debt for a new car they shouldn't have bought.

Internal combustion engines are so 19th century. Time to move on.

The North Sea fields are running out of oil. Saudi Arabia keeps putting out the same oil reserve numbers which means they are hiding something which probably is they are running out. Rumor is they already have been pumping sea water into the wells to bring the oil to the top. Sure new oil is discovered here and there but the world's appetite now is huge and new discoveries are soon depleted. We have enough natural gas to run on for 100 years. The only BIG fields left are in the Caspian basin. That is where Dick Cheney had big interests in. The world has interest in the Caspian basin and Russia and China know America/Europe wants to control it. So the oil game continues. Oil is the richest business in the world and that is why we still use it.

There will be a cartel to control whatever source we consume...

Which is why we need to move to sources which cannot BE controlled by corporations.

For example, say you have an electric car, with a home charging station which is either wind or solar powered.

You pay for the car, and for the hardware, but after that, you don't pay a corporation one fucking penny to run that vehicle.

Now imagine you run the electricity in your house the same way.

This is where we should be headed. The only ones who do NOT want this, are the greedy corporations who would ironically go the way of the dinosaurs whose liquified rotted corpses they have made billions from.

Actually the whole environmental thing is a product of big oil. They know they own our governments so we will stay on oil but they want to make as much money off of what oil is left. So they need a carbon tax. Push doom and gloom we need to stop cutting carbon emissions and get a tax passed. Then stay on carbon based fuels. It's all a hoax.

Like I say, we have the technology to get off oil but the assholes behind cap and trade don't want to get us off of oil. The want to keep us on fossle fuels and tax the shit out of them in the name of saving the precious earth. So the Republican "Drill, Drill, Drill" and the Democrat "Save the Earth" is actually the same thing. Oil, Oil, Oil.

Wind and solar are 1970's technology. Dark age stuff. We have zero point energy being used in the space program as I speak. It's real. Talk to any physisist worth his salt and they will laugh that we still burn fossle fuels. I know a lot of people who work for the department of energy and a lot of programs got cut by Dick Cheney that would have gotten us off of fossle fuels.

The Apollo program and The Manhattan Project were far more challenging than what is would take from the technological standpoint to get us off of oil. Sadly most cutting edge technology is used for weapons and then they sit on the technology for humanitarian use. We are ruled by assholes.

Maybe you could cut down to being a hypocriticial fucking dick to only once per minute, instead of continuously.

Aren't you a fucking self admitted drug addict?

Look inwards before criticizing others

DUDE!!!

The government is already investigating ways to control how WE use electricity!!

WHERE DOES THAT ELECTRICITY COME FROM ??

Where will it come from in the future ??

It comes from turning a generator. I say get a couple of horny teen boys on a treadmill and put a piece of nice bare naked ass in front of them and generate your own electricity.

It has already been established your heritage is ______.
And mine is _______.
Though it appears norm for your ______ to chattel their ______,
It is not __________.
The works of _________'s has been long standing and noble.
That is why ___________ choose to stop it with ________.
That can not be said for __________.

Say hay for me. Thank God that the Jacksonian democracy created such a clear, straight and steadfast split. Fact is humane has always and will always hold the noble line no matter what silly worldly influence there is.

The establish nobility of humans will always be persevered. You'r lack of human value, be chattel or not, will not prevail. The value and love of humans is natural law. Hallelujah.

Doesn't Michael Vick have some puppies in a burlap bag whose heads you should be smashing with a piece of brick? Oh, he left too.
Maybe, _________'s around. Maybe, you should re-evaluate the (you'r) new Moors association. Just holdin' the mirror.

There will be a cartel to control whatever source we consume...

Evelyn Rothchild ownes 80% of the worlds plutonium. He's now buying up water rights and agricultural land like crazy. He's ahead of ya. Not only is oil going to run out, he's betting on a mass rush to nuclear. Then he's preparing to corner fresh water which 50% of the world's population won't have in ten years and we need to produce 50% more food in the same amount of time. The barrons know which way the world is going and it looks like they are preparing for oil to run out. They should know, they own the oil.

When the average person in India and China starts driving a car it will start to run out very quickly.

The other thing that people always forget is we need oil for more important things than setting it on fire for fuel like making plastic and other chemicals which makes up 10&#37; of oil use.

What will we do when we can't make plastics?

Same.

I see your point. However, in your guitar analogy you wouldn't be homeless. Additionally, if you were homeless I wouldn't be asking you for $10 a month - I'm nice like that :D

I just don't like the idea of a society that lets families out onto the streets, regardless of whether its their fault or not.

Good point. The insane overuse of plastic is also something that should be stopped. Everybody can make their contribution to this effort by refusing plastic bags at the grocery store (use paper or better yet, cloth reusable bags) and whenever possible, not buying anything in a plastic bottle. Glass is made from sand, and last time I checked, we had plenty of that all over the world. (though ironically enough, the Middle East has most of that too!)

What little oil is left requires either

Killing a bunch of brown people half way across the world

I don't think you can extract petroleum off dead Muslim hides but if you say it is so then I guess I'm willing to try!

I didn't read this STUPID post before I groaned you. I just saw the word "dinosaur" and my finger jumped the mouseclick INSTANTLY..

These people shouldn't be homeless either. Just because they suddenly can't afford a $500k house doesn't mean they can't afford an apartment, a trailer, a mobile home, a room for rent. And if they truly can not afford a trailer, what the fuck are they doing staying in a $500k house on the taxpayers dime?

Lowering what they owe on their home isn't an option in my opinion. They owe what they bought it for. If they bought it for 500k, that's what they owe on it. Not fair to anyone to drop the loan value down by half. Now, if these people want to keep their homes at the agreed upon price, there are a lot of things I think the mortgage companies can do to assist people in staying in their homes.

Allow a window of suspended interest, with a review of the situation to be completed at the end of the term.
Forgive late/missed payments and tack them to the end of the loan allowing people to be caught up.
Suspend negative reporting to credit agencies.
Lower payments for a specified period of time while extending the term of the loan.
Extend the term of the loan to reduce monthly payments.
Lower interest rates.

These allow the people that want to keep their homes, at the agreed upon price, find a way to work within their budget while holding up their end of the contract.

Also note, many mortgage companies are doing a lot of these already under the term "Mortgage Modifications". But the people who are getting the principal of their loan reduced simply due to the economy dropping is a bunch of crap.
