I bought a Epiphone Valve Jr. combo about two years and did the Mercury Magnetics mod on it and it's one of my favorite amps. It sounds great with a Strat and takes peddles well. I play my bass through it and it sounds great with that. It even gets the roar from my Jack Casady signature. I've dimed it and ran it into a load box, EQ'd the line signal and then run it through a Carvin power amp and it sounds like an old Marshall. With some delay and pushing the front a tad with an overdrive you can get a VH sound happening. You get that same cranked amp vibe without all the volume of a big head. I love the sound of an EL-84 clipping. They sound close to an EL-34 but without the volume.

I've got my Boogie switched down to 15 watts, does that count? :hee:
I do kinda want a Mercury Magnetics-modded Valve Jr. though...those things kick ass....even without a pedal in front of it...;)

That they do. Mine really growls when dimed. It also sounds great clean. I actually dime it and put it in a closet and it sounds great without rattling my wife's doll collection around the display case. LOL!
"dimed" = fuckin' gay..
I used to practice downstairs with a half-stack Marshall 74 JMP / 25w Celestion 4x12: and at low volume, it basically SUCKED.
So what I did was take my 78 Fender Vibrochamp speaker out, into the Altair Power Attenuator, direct out from that and into the Marshall input with Channel 1 and 2 "jumpered" or running a small patch cord between inputs.
That was a great sound, from the Vibro Champ. I recommend it as a great value; only about 7 watts, and can be had around $150-250 private party in silverface panel. Blackface Vibro champs go for about double or more.
It's a great amp, but it suffers from the stock 6" speaker sucks - but the cabinet is so small the best thing one can do is rig a patch-between speaker output and speaker so one can plug into a 4x12 with Celestions

Again, keep your mom off the streets, then no one will have a chance to fuck her...

With twice my post count in half the time registered, anything you do online is a waste of time so don't blame your neurosis on me.
