CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- A person familiar with the plan says Danica Patrick has reached a deal to enter NASCAR with JR Motorsports.

Patrick will announce a partial Nationwide Series schedule at a Tuesday news conference in Phoenix, the person familiar with her plans tells The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because she has not officially announced her intentions.

Last week Patrick signed a three-year contract extension with Andretti Autosport to stay in the IndyCar series, but its schedule gives her enough time to also try NASCAR.

It's not clear yet how many races she will drive in NASCAR's second-tier series for team owners Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Rick Hendrick.

GoDaddy.com will sponsor Patrick in both IndyCar and NASCAR.

Outstanding.

Let me be the first to welcome her to NASCAR with a serious session of animal love.
I'd go apeshit on that...

The shoes she wore at the press conference present certain ideas along the same lines. :cowgirl:

Actually, there's more to it than that. She'll be running a limited schedule, but she'll still be running Indy. And don't forget, the Nationwide cars are switching to the COT in 2010. This could work to her advantage, seeing how she has little seat time in the old car. The transition shouldn't be that bad as a driver.

Yeah, I think she won her first Indy race this year.

No, it was the '08 Japan 300, so that's technically still IRL...

She's won 1 out of 81 races, damn close to being the Anna Kournikova of racing....

I think it's a great move for Nascar and Danica!!

Plus the way she's approaching it should help her transition from open wheel to stock cars a lot better than a few others that tried to make the move and haven't faired very well.

Got to give props to Dale Earnhardt Jr and his sister Kelly who orchestrated this move to JR Motorsports. After the fallout from Jr's desire to take a full share in his father's company and his bitch Step-mother Theresa blocking it... then him bailing to Hendrick Motersports... this appears to send a big fuck you to his step mom! Who had to merge with Ganassi racing last year to stay in business.

Now you've got the most popular driver in IRL teamed up with the most popular driver in NASCAR both backed with the best equipment & peolple from Hendricks. Great combination.

As others have stated the biggest asset Danica will have is her new boss... who knows how to handle the media frenzy and fan pressures while not performing worth a darn. But making hundreds of millions in sponsorships and merchandise.

If anything Danica doing this will make it interesting... and fun to watch!

Yeah, I agree in the business point of view...

Who knows, maybe she'll catch up to Jr., who's quickly becoming the most overrated driver in the history of NASCAR....

It's hard to say if Jr is really overrated... I'd call it over-expected and over-saturated from a media/fan perspective. Take away the name and his raw stats aren't that bad...

There's something within his team that just isn't coming together like the other 3 Hendrick teams. Can't say it's all Dale. Some key parts of the equation... But coming off the truck before a lap has even been run... there's a huge variation in performance even though the equipment is being built in relatively the same shop.

Well, there was always one car in the Hendrick stable that was more or less the red headed step child. That was the car owned by Papa Joe. Think about it, even with Ken Schrader driving it and a Budweiser sponsorship behind it, the car could barely get around the track. In the meantime, Gordon and LaBonte were winning championships.

I doubt that Earnhardt Jr. has suddenly forgotten how to drive in the past few years since that brief period of success driving for DEI. Remember, as people left DEI under Theresa Earnhardt's questionable leadership, the quality of that team's competitiveness dropped as well. This displays that more than anything, it has to be a combination of the car and personnel jelling or not. How else can you explain the success of Tony Stewart, who with a few minor tweaks took a car that was essentially a field filler for years and turned it into a points leader?

I don't even know if I'd include Gordon in that statement, that team isn't CLOSE to being the same since Evernham left.....

NASCRAP is a joke. Danica was headed to F1 early on and ended up at Rahal's team. She got punted by a rookie at St Pete because she thinks by holding her line she's entitled to hold off a faster car and a hungrier driver. She hated racing Paul Tracy at Indy and he's still the guy to beat in an Indycar. Her driving past is what she'll have to overcome. NASCRAP is drafting and a half dozen monkeys with a jack to make a great race. IndyCar is about the engine and technology package (pre IRL). The car in Indycar goes where you gas it or brake it without touching anyone. In NeckSnap, somebody can push you out of the way and keep the taxi cab running. She's going to get pushed around and bitch about it. That's when we'll find out what great move to NASCRAP racing looks like. When she pushes Carl Edwards out of the way and Billy bob's nephew's sister's aunt's friend catches her in the garage, it won't be pretty.
