Sen. Joe Lieberman has threatened to join a Republican filibuster over the health care public option.

Independent senator's stance on health care has angered some Democrats
"All options are open," former Democrat says of re-election race
Lieberman still sits with Democratic caucus in Senate

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Independent Sen. Joe Lieberman, a former Democrat who sits with Democratic caucus, said Tuesday that he would not rule out running for re-election in 2012 as a Republican.
Lieberman angered his colleagues in the Democratic caucus this week by threatening to torpedo health care legislation if it contains a government-run public health insurance or an expansion of Medicare.
Lieberman said he wasn't sure which party, if any, he would represent in his next election.
"I like being an independent, so that's definitely a possibility," the Connecticut senator (http://topics.cnn.com/topics/U_S_Senate) said. "But I'd say all options are open."
He called running as a Republican "unlikely" but added that he wouldn't "foreclose any possibility."
"I've reached the stage in my career where I'm not measuring every step I take based on how it's going to affect the next election," Lieberman said. "I think if you do that, you end up compromising the quality of your service."

In 2000, Lieberman was Al Gore's running mate when Democrats lost the closest presidential national election in U.S. history. Six years later, he was defeated in the Democratic primary and then ran as an independent to win re-election to the Senate.
Lieberman still sits with the Democratic caucus, which holds 60 seats in the 100-member Senate, the minimum amount necessary to overcome a filibuster.
That dynamic allowed Lieberman to assert his will in the health care debate by threatening to join a Republican filibuster if the health care bill contained the public option or Medicare expansion he opposes.
He acknowledged that his stance angered Democratic colleagues but said he acted on principle, not politics.
"I knew some of them were upset about positions I'd taken," Lieberman said. "But like each of them, I didn't get elected by telling my voters in Connecticut that I would follow the majority of my caucus even if I thought on some things they were wrong. We each have to do what we think is right."
Taking a stand in the polarized political environment means "a bunch of people will think you've done something great and a bunch of people will think you've done something awful," Lieberman said.
However, Lieberman (http://topics.cnn.com/topics/Joseph_Lieberman)'s stance on the health care bill could prompt a backlash from liberal Democrats. He was criticized by liberal groups, and even his wife -- who formerly worked for a pharmaceutical company -- was targeted.
"I've done what I thought was right, but it's no fun to have your colleagues be angry at you," Lieberman said. "It's no fun to have your wife attacked. But, you know, you got to do what you think is right."

This fucking SELLOUT, several stories are running right now about how the Democrats got him by threatening to get his wife fired and shit like that.

I'll let the rest of you post those ones, they're juicier than this.

But my point is: what in THEE fuck is going on with the guy "oh I'm just glad I can finally, now say I'll vote for the bill like I wanted to all along."

You little old boughtoff lickass piece of shit.

I'd vote for Obama before I vote for Joe. At least with Obama you know what he wants to do.

Which is do the bidding of the banking/corporate elite instead of the average American citizen. It's obvious, they want to take everything and run the citizenship like slaves. I've never seen greed at such levels and they smugly smile about it. I read about the French Revolution but never thought America would be at the "Let Them Eat Cake" level itself.

.. and THIS was McCain's FIRST pick as running-mate?

Now you no longer wonder why I backed neither party! They're both a collapsed, soggy cardboard box of warted-pusfilled assholes.

Whoever thought they were splitting the majority by going rogue, voting an Independant like this asshole in, don't you EVER vote for this motherfucker again.

Never, ever again!

I call it Washington ping pong. A republican president get's elected, he sells the public out, they get mad and vote democrat. A democrat get's elected, he sells the public out, they get mad and vote a republican in. Lieberman know's Obama is going down and independants never get enough votes because the big corporations don't back them. He smells a republican win in three years and these people are used to a dumb public who don't notice shit because they are busy following what the celebrities and sports teams are doing. That's before people started losing their jobs at depression approaching levels.

Lieberman like the rest of his ilk have been screw the American people for so long it's a habbit. They live in a bubble. They are out of touch. I think they are about to get hit with a tidal wave called rude awakening.

The reality is it's the multi-national corporations vs. the citizens of the world. It's not just the US. Corporations/banks have become THE GOVERNMENT.

This health care legislation will give the corporation the power to throw you in jail and fine you for not buying their product. This is what it really is and this is what they are very close to passing into law. I love how fascism is sold on the premise of "we care about you and we love you."

I don't believe for a minute that Liebermann's wife's job was in jeopardy from his abstaining.. I think that's bullshit, because he's extremely intelligent.

He sold out at the last minute to gain something yet-revealed in the future, because he calculates this bill won't pass so his vote didn't matter anyway.

I know this is how it works all the time. 99 times out of 100 concessions to the opposing party, the gamble works. It's the 1 time you're wrong and a fucked-up bill passes that makes you look like an ASSHOLE, and you then gotta circle the bullshit-excuse wagons in defense of your constituents anger.

Maybe the bill doesn't pass, but fuck this! Look at Lieberman's intent here. If it does pass, he can retire a billionaire or more and say "fuck it, I did it all in service to my country" well, fuck you stupid old prick. You angered lots of people this week including me, and I'm not even in your territoREH.
