I was just reading an interview in Classic Rock Magazine (THE best rock mag there is) with the lead singer of The Troggs, Reg Presley.

Question: The Troggs Tapes, a recording of the band arguing in the studio that uses the 'F' word 63 times and the 'C' word once, has also become a legendary curio.

Reg: Oh, you've got the edited version [laughs]. there were 137 'fucks' on the master copy!

From Wikipedia:

An in-studio tape of Reg Presley's running commentary on a recording session, filled with in-fighting and swearing (known as "The Troggs Tapes") was widely circulated in the music underground, and was included in the Archaeology box set. The in-group infighting is believed to be the inspiration for a scene in the comedy film This Is Spinal Tap where the band members are arguing. Some of this dialogue was sampled by the California punk band The Dwarves on their recording of a cover version of the Troggs song "Strange Movies".

I had never heard of this until now. It is easy to find mp3s of this famous tape, so I am downloading it now from here. Naturally I have no idea if it is the edited version or not. It is 11:17 long.

This is fucking hilarious. :lmao:

Thanks so much for this! I had a copy that I bought as an import at a legitimate record store sometime back in the early eighties. Ironically, the song they were attempting to record was called "Tranquility".

Put a little fairy dust on it and make it a fucking number one hit :lmao:

Debating whether or not they have a producer and then realizing they don't have a producer, then guessing what a producer would do if they had one.

I totally see that Spinal Tap lifted their material from these guys.
