I know its been posted before, but I can relate to what this
guy is going through. Hope he remembers this tune and
all the more power to the Metal Elf !!

woah...I dig the Elf song, despite the queer Butterfly lyrics...
and it's clearly where he started to move away from the 50's crooner stuff,
& really emerge with his 'DIO' voice..
and I love Dio's music, BIGTIME...but....

sounds like a straight ripoff from "All You Need Is Love"

total Sgt Pepper sound...

same chords, same instrumentation and harmonies,
and the lyrics..."love is all you need..."

Now if this came before Sgt Pepper, then Paul needs to cut him a biiig check.

That having been said....LONG LIVE DIO!!

May his health improve,
may he kick cancer in the ass,
and SLAY THAT DRAGON!!!

LONG LIVE THE MAN ON THE SILVER MOUNTAIN!

I first thought this was "all you need is love"

The song isn't from Dio's Elf period, it's from a concept album Purple bassist Roger Glover came up with sometime in 1974 called The Butterfly Ball and the Grasshopper's Feast. Glover wrote the entire album with assistance from Dio on a few tracks. This song is the single released from the album.

so Glover made a Sgt Pepper ripoff, then? No wonder it didn't sell..

On the contrary, it was a top ten hit and was made into a stage musical, as well as a short film. The story is based on a poem from the 1800s that was expanded into a successful children's book in the early 1970s.

huh..learn somethin new everyday..I stand corrected.

although I still think this is basically
All You Need Is Love from the Beatles, redux.

Those guys have gone on to some very interesting tangents,
like the classical stuff that Lord is doing currently.

Correctomundo Craig !

Roger Glover wrote this album with many involved and it was successful.
This song was reasonably close to the Metal era of DIO timewise.

As for the Beatles rip, what song isnt ??

Singing "Love is all" in my head as opposed to "All you need is Love"
and I dont hear a direct comparison other than the words Love
and All ....

Yeah, but that middle instrumental part was stolen right from "The Benefit of Mr. Kite"

You can bet Henry the Horse was dancing the waltz to this tune along with the butterflies and grasshoppers.

Yeah the instrumental does sound very familiar, granted...

This was meant to be more about the greatness of DIO's vocals
than plaguerism :)
