KENANSVILLE, N.C. – Singer and guitarist Willie Nelson canceled a North Carolina concert because of a bum hand about an hour after several band and crew members were busted for allegedly possessing moonshine and marijuana.

Alcohol Law Enforcement spokesman Ernie Seneca said Friday that six members of Nelson's band and crew have been charged with misdemeanor possession offenses. They were issued citations before the Texas singer was scheduled to take the stage Thursday night
.
Longtime Nelson bass player Dan Edward "Bee" Spears, 60, Franklin, Tenn., and five others were charged with possession of non-tax-paid alcohol, Seneca said. Two of the six were also charged with marijuana possession.

The charges came after officers smelled marijuana aboard a tour bus and were given permission to search it, Seneca said.

Nelson publicist Elaine Schock declined comment.

Nelson's daughter said on the musician's Web site that Thursday night's show at the Duplin County Events Center in Kenansville was canceled because his hand hurt too badly to play. The right-handed guitar-picker had carpal tunnel surgery on his left hand in 2004.

His daughter said he would try to finish the tour with two more dates, then return home to Texas for 10 days.

So is hand pain the new slang the kids are using for getting busted?

Moonshine and Marijuana....that's got to be a country song, if not I'm taking that ;)

Guys are in their 60's and still throwin' down old school.....

God Bless Ya, Willie and Co......you're an inspiration.

God Bless Ya, Willie and Co......you're an inspiration.I agree completely. Willie is not only an institution, he's a huge slice of Americana, and a never-ending source of inspiration.

I spent a few hours today with a song called "Ganja & White Lightning" where I refer to both as if they're actual people.
There's a legend that Willie burned a doob while sitting on the roof of the White House, and I'm tweaking with the lyrics as far as making that story the bridge of the song, but other than that, the song pretty much wrote itself in less than 20 minutes.

Regardless of what anyone thinks of his music, here in the midwest, Willie's an icon....almost a deity. Not so much for the Farm Aid or for being able to rebound from the clutches of the IRS, but he's one of the few artists who never strayed from his ideals.

Ganja & White Lightning....fuck dude, I already like it.

I'm a Midwestern boy myself and Willie has been one of those rare artists that I never tire of. The guy can play a mean ass guitar, too. They way he phrases his vocals is so unique and harder than fuck to copy.

The outlaw movement made him a legend in my mind. When he grew his hair and became the Red Headed Stranger that was classic. His shit with Waylon back in the 70's was awesome. Throw in the stuff he did with Cash, Kristofferson, and Jennings, as The Highway Men, that was a hell of a tour and album.

Willie wrote, Crazy, for Christ's sake. That alone would of secured his position in the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Anyway, I remember when Roth released YFLM. I flipped the CD case over and saw track 12 was "Night Life" and the first thing I thought was "I hope that it's Willies 'Night Life'", because that would be perfect. Alot of Daves fans may not be aware of the fact that Nelson wrote that tune. It further validates my being here as Dave knows a good song when he hears it. One of the few true highlights on an otherwise GOD-forsaken album.
As far as "Crazy" goes...even if it's not your cup of tea, you can't argue with the realness and emotion of the song. It's why it's so timeless.
Willie has remained true to himself, and his legacy will go on until the end of time. When it's real, it's above argument, and that's where Willie will always win.

I've always been crazy but it's kept me from goin' insane!!

One of the things I dig the most when I moved here from Cali is that out here they still have the keg party get-togethers. It's such a tightly knit community in that all you have to do is make the announcement in 3 to 4 places around town that you're having a backyard bonfire that weekend, and when Saturday Nite gets here, you'd have close to 100 people show up. Nobody does that anymore on the west coast, but out here it's a winter-time ritual, and it's just a fuckin' blast!
Just kick back on the tailgate of the flatbed with your guitars in tune and ready to go, and run through all the good stuff...the Waylon/Willie, The Doobies, Jim Croce songs never fail to get hoots and hollers, and you can go as far as George Bensons "Masquerade" and nobody cares who wrote it, bottom line is that good songs are good songs. I hate to name-drop but I have to admit that having Robin Zanders daughter (a strong singer in her own right) hanging out from time to time and kicking in background vocals doesn't exactly hurt. LOL!!

Out here it's all about the tunes. Talent overrides category....as it should be.

Now....while we're experiencing the greatness of Mr. Jennings....where's "Good Hearted Woman" or "Ramblin' Man"???

Willie rules.

Plain & simple truth right there.

I've liked Willie since as far back as I can remember. Even as a partying teenager at the river during spring break...we would play VH, Crue, etc... all day while water skiing & drinking. But late at night around the camp fire, someone would toss in a Willie Nelson tape. Everyone knew all the words & the joints were passed. Great way to mellow out after a long day of too much sun & partying, & getting ready to slither into our tents.

The only other artist that had this same effect was Steve Miller Band.
