Two glam bands that wanted to sound like Van Halen the most.

BulletBoys

or

Extreme

Bulletboys.

At least they wanted to sound like CVH clones.

Outside of Nuno, the rest of Extreme sounded like a Van Hagar tribute band.

B Boys

When I first saw Poison on MTV I thought it's 4 David Lee Roths in one band! Then I realized it was just candyass pop music.

My Smoooooooooooth Opinion is BulletBoys

Mark Slaughter & Dana Strum, cool names but I don't remember the music. Nuff said.

Slaughter and Strum weren't in BulletBoys.LOL!

In my 11 years on Roth messageboards, I could easily fill the newly-evacuated Guantanamo Bay with all of the ill-informed posters this place continues to get.

This thread lost all credibility when I read the same post.

POST WHAT YOU MEAN, AND MEAN WHAT YOU POST!.....and far more importantly...KNOW WHAT THE FUCK YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT WHEN YOU POST!!

You will be quizzed on it later!

This thread sucks so much of my cock that it could tongue my sack!

White Lion !!! Vito was pretty good.

He was hell of a guitar player but they weren't in the same vein as BB or Extreme anyway.

BTW, my vote goes to BulletBoys 'cause Marq is the best Dave impersonator you could ever imagine. :):hitch:

Not to mention BulletBoys' debut album kicks some major ass.
As for Extreme... they started off as an awesome band and then just quickly went downhill.

Extreme isn't even in the same universe as BulletBoys.

Not too sure I'd put the two bands in the same category.

There were lots of Dave wannabe's in the 80s, but not too many bands really sounded like CVH.

Vince Neil and Brett Michaels wanted to be Dave, but Poison and Motley Crue sounded fuck all like Van Halen. Poison was closer to early Bon Jovi, IMO.

Extreme were just to squeeky clean to really get the juices going - Nunu is an epic guitar player, and Pornografitti has some monster riffs, but its too 'nice' for my liking. Bulletboys make me smile, but the idea of wazing lyrical about their prowess makes me want to remove my eyes with spoons. Along with them, Slaughter, Poison, Pretty Boy Floyd and so on, grunge was waiting to happen....

Well I put these bands in this poll actually 'cause they seem to be the most schematic to me.

Like, one shredding guitarist like Eddie (Mick Sweda, Nuno Bettencourt) and overactive, flamboyant frontman like Dave (Marq Torien, Gary Cherone).

Marq and Mick win in my opinion.

BulletBoys.

Back in 1988 with Ted Templeman producing thier debut album, I thought for sure they would be the next VH.

They did a cool cover of ROCK CANDY on the 1st Wayne's World sountrack.

Found this on Wiki...
According to the Pasco Sheriff's Office,Marq Torien was arrested Friday, November 13, 2009 at 11:38 p.m. EST and charged with "non-support of children or spouse."
The 48-year-old singer was booked and released Saturday, November 14, 2009.

The first Extreme album is full of VH licks by Nuno. Flanging, reverbs, etc. Bulletboys wanted vocally to sound like VH. Based on the first Extreme album and the fact that at their sound checks I read they realed off VH tunes I'd say Extreme:barf:

What they have to do with Van Halen?

They sounded more like Europe.

Hmmm, you've been pretty knowledgeable until now. They sound not one fucking thing like Europe. Jase Edwards is highly influenced by EVH and Blaze Bayley was definitely paying attention to the master. Go have a listen and take your proverbial foot out of your mouth.

Don't get me wrong 'cause I like Wolfsbane a lot (especially the first album) but they sound nothing like Van Halen.

Comparing them to Europe was pretty much an exaggeration.

They do indeed kick arse & Blaze is a helluva frontman.

But why would you call 'em VH wannabees?

Nah come on.
I do see some similarities in their sound.

Extreme is boring. Besides, you can't really see similarities in sounds.

Can't really agree.
Of course they were hella influenced by Van Halen, especially Vince. But since Motley are my favorite band it's hard to call them wannabes.

So what? It doesn't change the fact that they wanted to be like Van Halen.

Hence, wannabes. Kickass tunes, though.

Cheers! :bottle:

The first album was cool but that's it.

Yeah but I prefer Motley to Van Halen in general. So even if Motley wanted to be like VH, they really rose above them.

You know that by this logic you can list pretty much all the hair metal bands and some more.

I might throw Autograph in there. The sound on their first record was like they were trying to imitate VH. Y&T's later stuff too, like Down For The Count and the Contagious album were pretty much VH cookie cutter.

Guess I'm going to go ahead and change my mind about the 'none of the above' ang go with Extreme over Bulletboys while I'm here. I like this jam served up loud with no video of Cherbone's running around looking like a poofter on stage confused as to who's balls to grab first.

Hell yes they do and he sure fucking is :)

True, apart from some of Jase's playing, they didn't sound (or even want to sound) like anybody else. However, they sound about as much like VH as the two choices given.

Yeah right... Everyone says that "we don't wanna sound like anybody else" bullshit.

There was nothing original about Wolfsbane.

I know how much shit Gary catches around here...and deservedly so. VHIII was an abomination, blasphemous, whatever cool adjective you wanna insert. But Pornagraffiti is a really cool album. Mostly because of Nuno. Still a great one though. High energy & fun.
