Billy Corgan has no Love for Courtney

Rocker worked with Love on new songs
Has not given permission for any releases

BILLY Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins worked with Courtney Love on songs for her new album - but now he wants nothing to do with her.

And if she releases the songs - as it appears she will - "it would be a real big problem, because I haven't given my permission," Corgan told Rolling Stone.

"I have no interest in supporting her in any way, shape or form," he added.

"You can't throw enough things down the abyss with a person like that."

As for ex-flame Jessica Simpson, "if people knew her like I knew her, they would love her like I do. It's really simple."

Just read an excerpt from the Rolling Stone article, and this guy is nuts. By the way, take a listen to this track from the upcoming Pumpkins album. Tell me if you do not feel it is a complete, shameless rip-off of "Stairway To Heaven", right down to the organ part.

Frankly, I enjoyed Hole's Live Through This more than the entire Smashing Pumpkins output combined.

Read the Corgan interview, and my reaction was why bother with Corgan as an interview subject these days? Corgan and the Pumpkins peaked with Mellon Collie, and the guy hasn't done anything of interest in 15 years.

He was always a bit of a poser to me, constantly name-dropping bands that influenced him such as Cheap Trick and the like...does he think if he includes his name in such company people will think his material is of the same caliber? Even within the context of the bigger rock bands that emerged in the early to mid 1990s, I wouldn't place Corgan or the Pumpkins in the same league as Nirvana, STP or even Pearl Jam. He/they just never did anything to excite these ears.

LOL So Billy doesn't want to be a "dead hero" and refuses to detail his cliche-apocalyptic religious (read doomsday cult) beliefs. I guess he prefers to be a live asshole...

Well, I never met Jessica Simpson, so I'll have to take Billy's word on that one. But having met Courtney years before anybody had ever heard of her, I'd say his estimation of her is dead on.

"throwing things down the abyss" is exactly how I'd describe an interaction with that woman.

Besides, he already pretty much wrote one of her albums for her anyway. "Celebrity Skin", I think it was.

I never read the interview, but I believe John Mayer dished how great Simpson was in bed and that he "couldn't get enough of her" in Playboy magazine. I guess he revealed some real personal stuff about her and she was pissed about it...

Also, "Live through this" is pretty much a collection of rejected Nirvana songs, as "Celebrity Skin" was to the pumpkins.

Yep. Kurt wrote most of that record. I've heard the demos with him singing that shit.

Sorry for the editing job on your post, Terry.

We got the newest RS over the weekend here at work, and I had the opportunity to read the whole enchilada...and what a strange universe this fellow (Corgan) lives in. He is hanging out with a former members of the Electric Prunes (Mark Tulin, who plays bass on his demos), has a 20 year old drummer that plays so badly that it insults your ears, and apparently met these people after he joined a "family" devoted to Sky Saxon, a former member of The Seeds. Oh, and he records/lives at a site owned by the former husband of the bassist in the Pumpkins, D'Arcy.

And on top of all of this, he has the crummiest, most annoying voice on the planet. Yet he still feels that the recording world was out to get him, and is largely (if not totally) responsible for his failings as an artist.

Back to the original thrust of this thread, let's not forget that Corgan freely accepted the job of working with Love, in order to get her album moving. Now, he claims not to have given his OK to things, and there will be issues if the album goes forward?

Crap, I feel like the Aflac duck listening to Yogi.

It was a rather odd interview, chef.

Corgan would rather think he is somehow being blacklisted, rather than allowing for the notion that maybe people aren't buying his music anymore because they just don't care.

It's just...like...maybe Courtney and Corgan working together would have been newsworthy a decade ago. Not so much anymore.
