Before Ink Dries, 14 States Sue Over Health Law

– The threatened lawsuits over the health care reform law started arriving at courthouses today shortly after President Obama signed the measure. Thirteen attorneys general headed by Bill McCollum of Florida—who is also a candidate for governor—sued the Treasury, Labor, and Health and Human Services departments and their secretaries. In Virginia, AG Ken Cuccinelli sued HHS secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

The AGs argue that the new law, formally the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, is unconstitutional. The legislation requires states "to do things that are practically impossible to do as a practical matter, without giving any resources or money to do it.," said McCollum, who managed to get one Democrat—Louisiana's Buddy Caldwell—on board.

GOP senators in final drive to stall health bill

WASHINGTON – In a final drive to thwart President Barack Obama's health care remake, Republican senators plan to force Democrats to run a gantlet of politically dicey votes before they can finish a companion bill to the landmark law.

Voting was expected to start late Wednesday on a full list of Republican amendments to a "sidecar" bill making changes Democrats agreed to in the main legislation already signed by Obama. Major components of the "fix" legislation include scaling back a tax on high-cost insurance plans opposed by labor unions, closing the coverage gap in the Medicare prescription benefits, and higher taxes on upper-income earners.

But Republicans have other ideas. Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., wants a vote on his amendment to prohibit coverage of Viagra for sex offenders. Sen. Judd Gregg, R-NH, wants savings from Medicare cuts plowed back into the health care program for seniors, instead of being used to expand coverage to the uninsured. Sen. Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., wants to gut penalties on employers whose workers wind up getting taxpayer subsidized coverage.

Democrats are vowing to bat down the GOP amendments one-by-one. Should they lose on any major financing component, the bill would have to go back to the House. Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has put members on notice they may be needed to vote on any changes that get through the Senate.

Meanwhile, the Senate's second-ranking Democrat accused Republicans of refusing to accept the finality of the health care overhaul.

"This is a political exercise for too many on the other side of the aisle," said Sen. Dick Durbin. "We're going to tell our people back home, 'It's time to govern. It's time to lead.' "

Were you all for the repeal of the 18th ammendment..?

I know you were cause your all old and drunkards.

Are you all for a law that levies fines against those who don't comply.

Is healthcare a personal freedom granted by your own personal rights as a human to exist within the manner of your own liking?

What if like car insurance they soon and -THEY WILL- make it impossible for you to get your yearly liscence tag without -Car Insurance- AN THE NEW -Healthcare Coverage- before you can drive legally..?

If I have the right to drive with compliance in all that is required already.. is it going to become a -privilege- to drive with HC Coverage.

If my self paid Obama Care has lasped and I twist my ankle at home are they going to refuse me treatment till I send a check and have my OCare re-issued.

Will each state have different laws much like the liquor laws of days gone by, dry counties where outlaws live without coverage...legally..?

Lock and Load Bitches, Head Fer da Hills, The Revenuer got a new book of standards based on nothing.

Note to self: Immediately start planning a new underground career, printing pirate OCare cards, pick out street corner to sell them , decide demographics price controlls to maximize profits, purchase small camera , laminating machine..etc....

It is going to be a great learning curve for the next 50 years and all the expenses will be payed by the middle class and those who comply with laws.

It's only 800$ per year per person we already pay those who carry 1200approx.

So see we get a 400$ savings and the Fed gets all of the new deprivatized 800$ it's win win................................. if your an asshole.

At least some of these Attorney Generals recognize this as unconstitutional...

On several levels. Whenever a bill is changed it has to be approved by both the house and senate. Also, the president is supposed to stay out of the process until the bill comes to him. Obama using an executive order is unconstitutional because he's not part of the congress and a separate branch of government.

Also I would like to see a law that allows enough time between the last change in a bill and the vote to give the lawmakers and public time to see what the changes are and what's in the bill. So much for Obama's promise of a more open government.

George W. Bush ran over the US Constitution and so why not the next president because the former one got away with it. Basically the Federal Government is completely out of control and basically Obamacare is a bust because they don't have the money to run it. So it's all false promises but the IRS has another excuse to go after people and the government has another money collection angle. Healthcare stocks rallied Monday on the news because we are forced to buy their insurance. I call it the IRS and corporate enablement act. So let's see, the Feds have taken over the auto industry, the mortgage industry, the banking industry, and now they have the healthcare industry.

Actually Wyoming was prepared and in negotiations with other states on what to do if this happened. People now are wondering what they actually get from the Federal Government because it's overstepped it's bounds and no longer follows constitutional law. We pay a lot of tax money to it and sure we get road and education money from the Feds but if we just kept the tax money we pay to the Feds we might just be better off. This is what people are talking about here. So we will see what happens in The US Supreme Court and what happens in the November elections. If it's business as usual we are headed for a tax revolt.

The Federal Government is basically broke and the Asians are cutting the money off. Bernanke is devaluing the US Dollar so the Federal Reserve is on it's last leg. The Federal Reserve is a private bank and the US Federal Government is actually a sepparate entity from the states. In fact, it's a separate corporation and all the US debt is Federal debt. The states know this and don't want to be saddled with Federal debt and since the Federal Reserve Notes are going to go worthless anyways, many state are looking into some other options.

Since Obama has taken office the military has grown by 4% and we started bombing Pakistan. Nothing has been done to help the economy he's just papered over it with a banker's bailout where the money is going to run out in 2010 and we will be back to the same problem again except with a higher debt load. The bankers bailout, the wars in the middle east, and Obama care have pretty much bankrupted the United States.

So this is a bad, bad, bad situation. The dollar is past the point of no return and unsavable and all we can do is go back to work and produce our way out of the hole. It's not going to happen with this current Federal Government that just saddled the country with more taxes and required healthcare purchases. They've done nothing to help the real productive economy. So yeah, it's like we are a communist country now.

I thought we would fall apart before the European Union but it looks like the Euro and the Union have serious problems, so I would say that failed. The central banks are going down. It's going to create a lot of havoc in the world but fiat money is what causes all these problems in the first place. If anyone doesn't believe we are in a world wide DEPRESSION they aren't with reality and such things change history in big ways. Nations fall, divide, and change over such things. Wars start because of such things.

I call it fascism because the government doesn't run the corporations it just bails them out and the corporations run the government. Look at Washington and see how many Federal Reserve and Wall Street guys sit in high positions. Wall Street has taken over Washington. So basically the bank that screws you is also your government now. The health insurance company that just jacked your premiums is now your government. Socialism is where people pay their taxes into a pool and the government runs services with it instead of having a private company run it. Fascism is where a private company has the government as a major stockholder and/or the government forces you to use it's services.
