Looking for some insight...

I used to use Nero to copy my boughten CD's so I'd have a copy to have at work. Did it for years with no problem.

For the past year or so everytime I try to copy a new CD, I have nothing but problems. It either will error right away; or if it does finish successfully, the first half of the CD is fine, but the second is "noisy." (crackling, static sounding)

I just bought some new software from Roxio called Easy CD & DVD burning. Tried it on a brand new CD and nothing. Will not burn at all.

I've tried both regular CD-R's and the ones that say especially for music.

I've had the same results if I try to rip and burn using say Media Player. I tried dBPoweramp too.

I don't think anything is wrong with my drive.

Any ideas?

Are they doing something to CD's now to make them so you can't copy them?

Well, I'm thinking it is your drive. Try any of your already purchased software with another drive, before you go spending more money.

Even if you can't find anyone to lend you one, chances are it'll still be cheaper than all that software.

By the way, your avatar... have I ever told you you're a doll? ;) :D

Cheers! :bottle:

Aw...suck!

F'ing computers are nothing but a pain. Been having adware problems lately too. My Norton software catches it and shuts it down, but it still keeps happening. The "source" is apparently still there.

I'm ready to pitch the whole f'ing thing and just read books for entertainment.

- Some burners have upgradeable firmware, if you can identify the model you might consider checking the manufacturer website.

- Did this start after making configuration changes to the computer or installing additional software?

- Try blowing out the CD burner with a can of compressed air. Maybe the issue is dust or dirt.

- Buy a MAC :)

Update your drivers or try a re-install of Nero. Hope that helps... ;)

Replace your drive. Hell, you can get a top-quality DVD/CD burner for 20 bucks or so. Dirt cheap.

Here, if you buy stuff by internet, go here - LiteOn makes quality drives and are inexpensive (19 bucks and up):

NEWEGG.COM (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olstemplatemapper.jsp?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&_dynSessConf=3475163785812069154&id=abcat0504007&type=category&usc=abcat0500000&cp=1&sp=%2Bcurrentprice+skuid&nrp=15&qp=crootcategoryid%23%23-1%23%23-1~~q70726f63657373696e6774696d653a3e313930302d3031 2d3031~~cabcat0500000%23%230%23%2311a~~cabcat05040 00%23%230%23%233y~~cabcat0504005%23%230%23%23p~~nc abcat0504007%23%230%23%23f&add_to_pkg=false&pagetype=listing)

Best Buy's selection usually sucks fucking ass - cheapest burners they have are 50 bucks, and I bet you a dollar if you go to the store, they will only have more expensive ones in stock:

Beat me to it.. both counts!

Also, I forget what command-line thing you put in your "autoexec.bat" file from the C:\ prompt I once used to "switch" autorun.exe to "off" upon bootup, but that may be a solution for a fucked-up drivebelt.

Autorun is a program that wants to page your removeable drive for any automatic menuing or titleing programs, like a dvd or mp3 menu everytime your disc drive door is shut.

This ruins the belt drive especially in a house full of crazy cat-lady kitties where the fur and shit is just constantly bounding thru the house, choking up the drive and the power fans.. take the thing to where you fill up on free air (not those pay with quarters type gas station air - not enough pressure) and haul your PC or laptop case down there and blow the hell out of the vents to get all that cat-hair out of there.

My chick's laptop got so slow, I opened it up and the heatsinks were so full of bed lint, I had to brush 'em clear with an old toothbrush. Dusted the rest of it out, and I swear it rand three times the speed. Like a new PC/

so theres a few tips if you can use em.
