Just saw this demo Slash did on WoodyTone...sounds pretty cool. Especially if that's it (apart from when he plays the 'Welcome to the Jungle' riff w/the echo) un-adorned, no tube screamer or anything in front of it...me likes...:cool:

Slash has basic Marshall / Gibson tone...

You don't need a special model to achieve tone that countless bands have been getting since Aerosmith arrived on the scene in the early 70's...

From the blog at afd100.com, it may have a variac switch or power scaling of some sort on it. And an input like the RR amp where one input is stock and one input modded. The protype is just a JCM800 shell to tweak the circuit but the finished model is to look like a plexi

I don't play enough anymore to warrent buying a Marshall tube head. I have a solid state Marshall head that's pretty cool for me. I can't remember the model but it's a decent head.It doesn't sound anything like that AFD100.

Played through one of those solid-state MGD50 stacks at that annual charity festival gig last year...um, HATED it. As a matter of fact, every other guitarist who played through it that day said they hated it too...


Except for a few modeling amps, and PODfarm for recording, not really a fan of solid-state.

Quite true, and hey, I didn't name it...lol and it's more because it goes on the whole week and is held in a huge-ass state park... And there was already close to 80-100 confirmed guests + family members this year (cough, water park for the kids, cough lol) for this year last time I checked. It's a small town, that's like half the population! LOL

All I know is I get to play a few cool (DIO) tunes from the day with my then 20-something band for fun, REALLY LOUD. And it's for an actual Diabetes Charity Organization as well as to benefit a friend who passed of Diabetes complications' family (so please to be fucking off), I'm on vacation anyway, so... where the f are you playing, Mr. Can't-even-post-a-picture-of-his-gear? :biggrin: STFU.

And I mainly mentioned it because that's where I played through the MGD50 or whatever...but yeah, now that you mention it - on a decent size stage in a huge field LOUD through a PA even...still wasn't happening like that Slash amp, or say, Doug Aldrich's modded Plexi - or ANY decent tube amp. Just sayin'.

Now that Marshall has a head with ripe-enough amount of gain in it, you don't need to get a tech to mod an old amp like a Mesa Mk3 which might otherwise bake in the forlorn Van Nuys heat, obscured by dust and Ozzy Osbourne pin-up posters holding greater interest to their owner.

Power control!!!!!!!!!!!1



An additional task was to program the amplifier control firmware. We haven’t disclosed it yet but this amplifier features an auto-biasing function which works together with the output power control. We’ve been working on it for more than a year now as it may well appear in some other projects, but we have decided to include it in this amplifier as well. The power control allows the user to obtain power amp distortion at volumes as low as 0.1W going to full 100W with the simple twist of a knob. With a trimmer pot located on the rear panel, the player selects the desired biasing current. When triggered by the user, the amplifier performs a complete biasing job by itself. This feature can be seen as having a little man inside the amp rotating the bias pots and measuring the current for us. Lets highlight too that the biasing is not only limited to the full power control but is performed in all the power range ensuring proper operating conditions at every output power setting.

That's really a highly sought-after feature, there's a few companies working on this issue so they can justify selling a 2000 dollar tube amp to sound good at the microwatt levels of a 59 dollar Pod piece.

I don't think this is a waste of time at all. Somebody's soon to get a good handle on it, and when they do that's going to be the amp to have.

What a dream: to own just ONE amp you could do bedroom-levels recording with at night, and then do your weekend-warrior thang with the guys. I hope somebody gets this feature right..
