These are songs that didn't make the final album cut for whatever reason, or were released on Japanese album versions. I'll start with an Ozzy leftover track from Blizzard Of Ozz...

My guess is that this is something that was mostly written by Randy Rhoads before Bob Daisley got involved in the writing. The whole vibe of the song, especially the chorus, is more reminiscent of the early Quiet Riot albums than it is of anything that ended up on "Blizzard". And the solo was lifted directly from the one Randy wrote for "Breaking Up is a Heartache" which was planned for Quiet Riot's third album (and eventually surfaced on the compilation released by DuBrow in 1994)

Here's a leftover from the Rolling Stones "Some Girls" sessions 1977/78. Probably recorded the same day as "Far Away Eyes", and I'm guessing after a serious amount of alcohol. Which is probably why it didn't make the album. Actually, there's a shitload of great stuff in the vaults from this era......

This Soundgarden cover of the Beatles "Come Together" originally appeared as the B side for the "Hands All Over" single, then wound up on the Loudest Love EP. It's fairly pointless, but I figured somebody might get a kick out of it.

This track was recorded for but not included on The Police's Synchronicity album. It was used as the B side for "Every Breath You Take".

In what is one of the most unlikely pairings in musical history, Sting appeared on stage to perform the tune with Frank Zappa. The version appeared on Zappa's Broadway the Hard Way live album.

Not sure exactly what Bono was trying to do with the vocals here, it's like he's layered two completely different lead vocals on top of each other. Apparently he wasn't sure either, since they pulled the plug on it and rewrote the lyrics completely as "Lady With The Spinning Head". Though one piece of this did end up in "Ultraviolet" and another (the chorus "Wake Up Dead Man") would eventually resurface on the POP album.

Gotta love what Edge is doing here though.

In 1973, David Bowie recorded his Pin Ups album, a tribute to British Invasion groups from the 1960s. It was during these sessions that he hit upon the idea of doing an American themed version of the album, featuring (as the story goes) the involvement of Todd Rundgren. The only evidence of this rumored album is a recording of Bruce Springsteen's "Growin' Up", which never saw the light of day until Rykodisc remastered Bowie's catalogue and included the track on the revamped Pin Ups album in 1990. The tune features Ron Wood on guitar.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2ym3J5iEcQ

Bowie returned to Springsteen's work during the 1975 sessions for the Station To Station album. This version of "It's Hard To Be A Saint In The City" also remained unreleased until 1990, when it appeared on the Sound And Vision boxed set. Unfortunately, hearing it once is enough to prove that some ideas are best left on the shelf.

Actually the original pressing of Leave Home included Carbona (Not Glue) it was removed because Carbona was a brand name for a carpet cleaner (I believe) and Sire didn't want to get sued. If you can find one, buy it!

One of my faves. If you bought the vinyl of Alice Cooper's "Special Forces" this song was listed on the back of the album jacket. It wasn't on the record. It only appeared on the box set, Life and Crimes of Alice Cooper, and Alice explains in the notes that the song was simply cut at the last minute and the record company didn't want spend the $$$ to reprint the album cover.

Yep, I have one as well. The song was the B-side of the "Immigrant Song" single. Now here is the pisser: My copy is a Japanese import, but get this...it was issued in the U.S., shipped to Japan, then re-imported to the U.S. In the late seventies, it was the only way to get a copy, other than purchasing the questionable "Singles" set (all 10 singles in a cheap cardboard container, yet another import) that came out sometime in the early eighties.

Aerosmith left this off their 1985 album but put it on the cassette so I bought both, grudgingly. But the moody tune was a highlight on a hit n miss comeback album best known for a Joe Perry Project cover and backwards lettering cover art. Ted Templeman didn't produce the album as much as secretly record it when Aerosmith were showing him the material. The Van Halen "capture em live" approach didn't quite work here.

Apparently this song kept being rejected as early as "The Elder".

A highlight of Wendy O Williams "W.O.W." album, the Ki$$ version only showed up on the box set.
