View Full Version : Cost of Government

In 2010, Cost of Government Day falls on August 19. Working people must toil 231 days out of the year just to meet all costs imposed by government - 8 days later than last year and a full 32 days longer than 2008.

In other words, in 2010 the cost of government consumes 63.41 percent of national income.

To read the report on your computer, and to view additional resources, including a chart room, media coverage, as well as last year's report click on the index below.

For a pdf of the full report, click here http://www.costofgovernmentday.com/

This is the latest COGD has fallen since the group began calculating it in 1977. It is eight days later than the 2009 COGD and a full 26 days later than in 2008. It’s also 51 days later than it was just 10 years ago.

While it’s tempting to blame President Barack Obama and Congressional Democrats for the explosion in government costs in the past two years, President George W. Bush and his party played a significant role, too. The two federal initiatives that have most increased costs since 2008 are the Troubled Asset Relief Program, signed into law by Bush with support from both parties in Congress, and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (a.k.a. the “stimulus” law), for which Obama and fellow Democrats bear almost exclusive responsibility. In fact, if both these laws were repealed and remaining funds were not disbursed, COGD would fall 21 days earlier, on July 29. “That almost a month could be shed from COGD by repealing the remaining funds represents the unprecedented burden these spending policies have placed on taxpayers,” said the Center for Fiscal Accountability's (CFA's) report.

The problem is not unemployment for a communist trying to slowly erode the constitution into a monster of, most people work to support the larger amount of people who are employed in whole, by the taxation of the first group.

Unpopular speech is absolutely vital to the health of our nation and Roth forum.
Ladies and gentlemen of the Roth forum MOD jury, you have heard a lot today, and I'm not gonna go back over it, but you have to go into that room and make some decisions. But before you do, there's something you need to know. I am not trying to suggest that you should like what Van Halen1r2 does, but what I do like is the fact that I live in a country and post on a forum where you and I can make that decision for ourselves. I like the fact that I live in a country where I can post up on a forum and read it, or throw it in the recycle bin if that's where I think it belongs, for FORD to bitch about anyone giving him a plate of his own shit is laughable at best and truly sad if this forum where to succumb to fascist PC thought police because FORD and those of his ideology disagree with what I say.

SourceWatch is not run very democratically:

It is effectively, a U.S. Democratic Party front, run by Sheldon Rampton and handpicked personal friends of his, such as "User:Maynard". These form a very autocratic sysop power structure with no accountability whatsoever. They simply do ad hominem delete and ad hominem revert by users they dislike, usually for knowing more about the subject than they do. It is not recommended to engage them in editorial discussion.

On some US-specific public policy issues, it often has good content wiki type information with good validation of sources. Put an article there not here to criticize someone or some company doing propaganda like greenwash, e.g. Gus Kouwenhoven. But expect it to be removed if it does not serve the current U. S. Democratic Party agenda, e.g. defeating Bush, denying that the Greens understand the issues and the solutions better, etc.

If you can clearly link the case to some anti-Bush position, it'll probably stick. But that doesn't mean much. Partisan wikis tend to be not trusted:

Sourcewatch is by no means accepting of either neutral point of view nor New Troll point of view. It is simply a vehicle of the individuals who run it, and its pretence to openness is simply to make attribution of sources for various of its pet positions, easier. This is one approach to wiki management but it's not ideal for anyone who wishes to actually challenge w:propaganda.

Censoring most of the articles on cognitive dissonance, information warfare, pro-technology propaganda, and muting technical issues with respect to the use of propaganda itself (which might cast MoveOn.org for instance in an unfavourable light), has given Disinfopedia/Sourcewatch a poor reputation for objectivity or for academic scholarship. There is however some good coverage of some specific debates in energy, Islam, nanotechnology and emergency response issues, most of which seems to have been written by anonymous trolls.

I haven't, and I probably don't want to. As it is, I have not watched ANY pro basketball since the Sonics died :(

Nor have I consumed any Starfucks coffee and I still got a gift card that's half full, so I wouldn't even really have to pay for it. I'm just so fucking disgusted by the part Howard Schultz played in all of this.

It's just really fucked up how sports franchises are set up. A team like the Sonics with the fan support it recieved should have never been used to hold the city of Seattle Hostage. I really wish it was set up how the Packers are in that the franchise is owned by the residents of the city themselves allowing them to have the profits go back to the community itself rather than some old rich jerk that could give a shit about the city.

Seattle should have done more to save the team end of story, but somehow I think FORD will find a way to blame Karl Rove next.

Doesn't matter what the cost is, if CONGRESS is insistent on wasting session time on jack-off issues like a carbon-warming stock exchange, healthscare, saving bad banks and stupid stockbrokerages.

It's like we've lost an entire session of Congress due to all the feelgood Socialism issues, and not focusing on the economy and kicking the wetbacks the fuck outta Dodge... and keeping 'em out!

Well your mighty welcome Nicky, seeing that you are a fan of Rand

A building has integrity just like a man. And just as seldom.
Ayn Rand

A creative man is motivated by the desire to achieve, not by the desire to beat others.
Ayn Rand

A desire presupposes the possibility of action to achieve it; action presupposes a goal which is worth achieving.
Ayn Rand

Achievement of your happiness is the only moral purpose of your life, and that happiness, not pain or mindless self-indulgence, is the proof of your moral integrity, since it is the proof and the result of your loyalty to the achievement of your values.
Ayn Rand

Achieving life is not the equivalent of avoiding death.
Ayn Rand

Ask yourself whether the dream of heaven and greatness should be waiting for us in our graves - or whether it should be ours here and now and on this earth.
Ayn Rand

Civilization is the progress toward a society of privacy. The savage's whole existence is public, ruled by the laws of his tribe. Civilization is the process of setting man free from men.
Ayn Rand

Contradictions do not exist. Whenever you think you are facing a contradiction, check your premises. You will find that one of them is wrong.
Ayn Rand

Do not ever say that the desire to "do good" by force is a good motive. Neither power-lust nor stupidity are good motives.
Ayn Rand

Every aspect of Western culture needs a new code of ethics - a rational ethics - as a precondition of rebirth.
Ayn Rand

Every man builds his world in his own image. He has the power to choose, but no power to escape the necessity of choice.
Ayn Rand

Evil requires the sanction of the victim.
Ayn Rand

Force and mind are opposites; morality ends where a gun begins.
Ayn Rand

Enjoy, P.S. I will see if I can get you a copy of Atlas Shrugged :)
