Rats...This video contains content from Sony Pictures Movies & Shows, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds. :(

I take it this was the epic guitar battle at the end?

It's the whole movie.

It's still working from the UK, there must be some weird international copyright thing going on.

boy's guitar part was dubbed by Vai, wasn't it?

I'm pretty sure Ry Cooder did most of The Karate Kid's section, up until the Paganini bit.

yeah.

Vai beat himself in this battle, anyway.

Yeah Cooder did the slide parts and produced the soundtrack, Vai did the rest.

Originally it was going to be an actor playing Jack Butler in the movie but the director decided Vai looked the part.

The audio was put on a Guitar Player flexi-disc and the following month Vai submitted a letter saying the mistakes were intentional because of the film plot. Apparently some readers couldn't figure that out. :)

What was really annoying was when the soundtrack was released, it did not include the guitar duel and a few other interesting odds and ends. So guitar fans had to either buy the DVD over a decade later and rip them (with dialogue all over them), or wait 26 years until the extra tracks showed up on Vai's album.

I think I had an 'official' Vai tution tape back in the late 80s that had exerts of the original music without the dialogue.

It's all understandably a bit hazy at this point... :)
