I have a love of beef jerky but the problem is I can't find any locally that's worth a fuck. Wal-Mart use to have these big tubs you could buy for $25 and it was pretty good. Guess what. They took it off the damn shelves.

You shop online and you can find all kinds but how do you if it's good? FYI Jack Links is not good.

I use to buy Cedar Creek but they changed it and now it sucks.

Can anyone tell me where to buy some good beef jerky?

Really I am not joking!

How serious are you about this? Because (believe it or not) you can make it at home yourself out of cheap ass flank steak, and the results are surprisingly good. It's inexpensive to make, plus you can flavor it to you own taste. If you are interested, let me know and I'll write/type out the recipe.

I have tried making it before with little success. I have tried it in the oven, in a dehydrater even smoking it. It's just never that good. :(

I guess i'll order some of this and give it a try.

I practically live on the stuff these days. I like Jack Links better than some other varieties I've tried - particularly their A-1 flavored version. I'd be interested in trying to make it at home...:umm:

The thing is, you do not need an oven. All you need is one of those box fans you find at a drug store for around 15 bucks. Essentially, you cut up the flank steak and marinate it in some seasonings of your choice for a few hours (or overnight) in your fridge. You lie the fan down between two chairs, then strap an a/c filter over it. When that is set, you place the strips on the filter and turn on the fan, running it for around 10-12 hours.

It's that easy, and you don't need one of those damned dehydrator gadgets to do it.

That's the thing. Ideally, you would try this in an empty closet, so your sport coats don't suddenly make you attractive to dogs during the winter when you finally get a chance to wear them. Do you have an attached garage or laundry room?

You probably still have the recipes from when you tried it before, but the real kicker is to add a teaspoon or so of liquid smoke to the marinade. Don't ask me why, but for some reason it really makes a difference.

Whittington's is great... it's out in a small town in the middle of nowhere in Texas. They only sell Texas-made products. Cowboy salsa is great... it's black-eyed peas and some other shit. I love going through there.

One of my groomsmen bought me like $300 worth of beef, turkey and pork jerky for my wedding. I was elated. My wife ... bemused at best :)

Ya know, I love threads like this, because they kill time in such a great manner and are fun. The pisser is that I suddenly have an urge that on the way home tonight, to drive 5 miles out of my way, heading towards Whole Foods and picking up some specialty olives, then going further out of the way toward the liquor store for a bottle of vodka. Come to think of it, that store sells jerky, too.

BEND, Ore. - An elk hunter is recovering after spending four days and three nights stranded in a central Oregon forest with just a small bag of whittington's beef jerky to sustain him.

KTVZ-TV reports 48-year-old Alan Hewitt, of Prineville, Ore., went elk hunting on horseback on Thanksgiving but was injured in a fall.

He endured freezing temperatures in the Ochoco National Forest and survived on the beef jerky until two men found him Sunday.

Darrel Hover, of Bend, and his father thought they saw a red backpack in the snow. It was Hewitt. They took him to a hospital in Bend, about 120 miles southeast of Portland.

The Crook County sheriff's office rescued Hewitt's two horses.

It's pretty good. I am a little diappointed in that some of it is packaged as small pieces. 1 reason I don't like to buy shit on the net. The original is good though. I prefer my Jerky to be thin and dry this is more thick. Tasty though.

Don't know if your town got any of those new German supermarkets... Aldi? I think it's called. They have some great in-store brands, and they're hella cheap, and I'll tell you what, the quality is amazing, the price put aside. Try their beef jerky, I think the brand is called "Pemmican" or something like that, and it's got a picture of a Native American on it
