Dean tells AP Obama must reclaim progressive base
By BETH FOUHY, Associated Press Tue Nov 30, 2:47 pm ET

NEW YORK – Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean has a message for President Barack Obama: Reclaim progressive voters or risk both re-election and the future of the Democratic Party for years to come.

Dean, the former Democratic National Committee chairman and one-time presidential contender, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Obama has "clearly upset members of his base" on issues including tax cuts and allowing gays to serve openly in the military. Obama stands to lose both the presidency and his party's credibility if he doesn't reverse course before 2012, Dean said.

"You take care of the people who sent you to the office," he said in an interview. "There are hundreds of thousands of people under 30 who slept on floors for two years to make sure Barack got elected. You can't turn your back on those people because if you do, it's going to be hard to find any friends."

Dean, whose 2004 presidential bid was largely fueled online by young, activist voters, is a prominent spokesman for the party's progressive wing. While he has frequently criticized the president, Dean announced through a spokeswoman earlier this month that he would not mount a primary challenge against Obama in 2012.

He dismissed Obama's efforts to court conservatives as "a waste of time" even as the president was meeting with Republican congressional leaders at the White House for the first time since the midterm elections.

Dean noted that Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell has vowed to make Obama a one-term president.

"You can't deal with people like that — you're not going to placate the conservatives," Dean said. "They're out to get you and they've placed that as their highest interest."

With all due respect, Dr. Dean, I think Obama is a lost cause, and if he extends the tax "cuts" to tax dodging criminals, that pretty much confirms it. Time for you and Russ Feingold to get a ticket together for 2012, and if it ends up being a new party, then so be it.

DEAN/FEINGOLD 2012. YEEEAAARRRGGGHHH!!!

Obama is out to do as much damage to the US as he can. He's not your typical politician who sticks his finger up in the air and makes changes according to the public whim. You are just going to see Obama stubbornly pushing his agenda no matter what the American people want. If Dean wants to change things, the Democrats need to replace Obama with someone else. He's been an absolute disaster and is a good buddy of the BCE. Rapiscan, Bush Sr., and all the military contractors love Barrack.

After Barrack is done screwing us, he probably will go into the UN. Get ready to see Bill Clinton, George W Bush, and Barrack Obama crawl out together for a charity photo op, now and then. Same fuck, different dick.

If the Democratic Party was smart they would drop Barrack Obama like a piece of shit, nominate someone else for 2012 and run them in the election. Obama has been a total disaster and should be treated as such. We can't afford another lousy president in office. We need to desperately clean house while we still have a house to clean.

Even more people sleeping on floors because Barack got elected.

The Democratic Party went to shit the day the bullet hit Kennedy's head. Kennedy believed in tax cuts and not reckless spending. It wasn't the big spending, big program party in those days and the Republicans have been just as guilty. We can't afford the same bullshit. Both parties need to clean house and get off the track we are on or we are finished.

The Democrats still suffer from the stench of Lyndon B. Johnson and the Republicans still suffer the stench of Richard M. Nixon. So much damage done under those two and we still suffer from it.

Both parties are out of whack. You would never hear this from a Republican today.

Guess who said the following: "It is incredible that a system of taxation which permits a man with an income of $1,000,000 a year to pay not one cent to his Government should remain unaltered."

Franklin D. Roosevelt? Ted Kennedy? Nancy Pelosi?

Not even close. It was Andrew Mellon, Secretary of the Treasury under conservative Republican President Calvin Coolidge.

Thom Hartmann is calling Obama a Republican today. He's been critical of the policies before, but never actually called him a Repuke until now.

We need Dean in 2012. Period. We simply cannot have another Republican president, because we have to get the corporatists off the Supreme Court.

Fat Tony Scalia isn't going to be on that court in 2020. He can't be replaced by someone even worse than he is, which would be the case if his replacement was nominated by the likes of Romney or Huckabee.

I would say that is a good call. Obama is the best friend of Wall Street bankers and military contractors. He's even giving big corporations like McDonald's exemptions from his health care law. So Obama is for sale and the big corporations and banks love the guy. Not exactly what people think of when they think liberal. So he is a Republican of the worst kind. Very good call but too many Democrats are too stupid to see it and will continue to drink the Obama-Aid.

But Republicans are equally stupid. They tie american flags to their dicks and masturbate to Sarah Palin.

But I really do believe stupid people deserve what's coming to them. I just don't want to be around them when the shellacing happens. This country went off the cliff a long time ago, it's in free fall, and is just ready to go splat. A part of me will enjoy seeing it happen.
