Little did I know that Jeff was still on tour. I thought he had closed the 'Emotion And Commotion' leg late last year. Only yesterday did I discover he was coming to town and what gets me, he sold out in 31 minutes.

I'm not at all big on Beck but he was the first show I went with with my father when he was suffering with leukemia and I've seen Beck twice since. Guitar virtuoso, I could care less (then again, just how does he get a Fender Strat to sound like that!?) Seeing him brings back warm memories...so if anyone local has a ticket (or two) for sale... :)

All-time Beck (in no order)

1. She's A Woman (for the phrasing and soloing)
2. Grease Monkey (for the phrasing and soloing)
3. Serene (beau-TI-ful)
4. You Shook Me (take 1)
5. 'Cause We Ended As Lovers
6. Rollin' & Tumblin'
7. Goodbye Pork Pie Hat
8. Too Much To Lose
9. Declan
10. Dirty Mind

(okay, maybe some order)

a couple years ago when Beck came through i didn't hear about it until late, and by then $75 tickets (fuckin' House of Blues) were going for over $125. didn't see anything in the paper, and i don't listen to local radio so if they announced it i wouldn't have heard it.

Beck is playing at Casino Rama in April, i may wander back up there if we don't get a local show.

Sophie, Led Boots, You Know What I mean, Head for Backstage Pass.

all bad songs.

Scatterbrain, just awful.

Dr. House has tested and is working on sending a message to the individuals who played on those albums.

He's not the most entertaining performer to see live but he never claimed to be. The man is definitely a visionary whether he'll ever publicly admit it or not.

I was listening to this the other day and it's a decent compilation evenly divided up in thirds between Clapton, Beck and the famous plagiarizer and by far, the Beck moments are the best. Like I said, I'm not big on him but I do have a fetish for those who take the time to learn to manipulate their instruments in a way that is enjoyable to their audience so when it comes to guitar rock Beck did write the book although he will never be credited for for his accomplishments. My dad was big on him, though constantly playing 'Blow By Blow' next to Dave Brubeck and Jason & The Scorchers. I grew up listening to the most diverse music possible - which I am thankful for.

I've seen some of Beck's hot rods up close. He's a wonderful metal worker and welder. He makes his own body panels and frames from scratch.

I went to a show in Seattle and Mike Soldano was there with some of his cars.

I'm just pissed from getting tendonitis after learning Max Middleton's solo in Sophie years ago before I knew you had to work up to things beyond your abilities.

It all gives me the chills and I never get sick of it. There and Back is a classic as well.
It's all about the phrasing and it's obvious that everybody playing on any of the given tracks gets that.

Bad as in good? Scatterbrain sounds like he's trying to do Ornette Colemen to me only with a guitar.

Grease Monkey is a fav - used to my Tang Soo Do warmups to that tune only it did make me more violent than intended. Serene from 'Commotion' I put on mix tape (on CD..?) that I use in Yoga class. 'Cause We Ended As Lovers is also great for coming down off of a night of rough sex. Somewhat appropriate as well.

I was fortunate enough to see Jeff Beck back in 97 when he was touring supporting Santana. Great Show. Beck had Pino Palladino on bass, Tony Hymas on Keys and Terry Bozzio on Drums.
Fucking Brilliant

Another reason I love Jeff Beck is that he's an old Geezer that just rips the fucking lungs out of the young cats.

As good a list as any I've read in terms of the best Beck has to offer.

He really is quite amazing.

If only he'd play my dream set list in concert.

Long as he threw in several numbers from Blow By Blow and Wired, I'm sure you'd be satisfied.

I sure as shit would.

I really must make more of a concerted effort to catch him live. With Gary Moore's passing, I'm reminded that these "old timer" guys are getting on in years and there are realistically so many more chances one will have to see them.

I saw Beck in 1989 in support of his 'guitar shop' album. The show was him and SRV... great stuff!

Agree totally.
You MUST see him, he's astounding live - not in the "running around prancing onstage, one foot on the monitor" kind of way - the dude just BRINGS IT. Jaw-droppingly good.

Dude, enough with the projecting.

When I referred to the fact that the dude's tattoo was cool, I thinking along the lines of a 70's DLR image over say the EEAS era apparel. Which I know you probably favour. ;)

I have my doubts about the tattoo even being real...

But if it is real, the MF'r is a hardcore Roth fan! :baaa:

Oh, and by the way. Do you have any intention of sharing your music in the Show your Work thread??? http://www.rotharmy.com/forums/showthread.php?61553-The-Show-Your-Work-Thread (http://www.rotharmy.com/forums/showthread.php?61553-The-Show-Your-Work-Thread)

Hardrock69

I figured out how I can score one. Gonna take some financial juggling, but I will try. Only problem is that I have to make a credit card payment first to free up some space on it, then use the card to buy the ticket. Which means I won't be able to buy a ticket until Friday at the earliest. And, with only 2,000 tickets available at the Ryman, I am going to be lucky if I can get one before it sells out.
