The rules are simple: you answer the hypothetical question then add a question of your own and the next poster answers that, then does the same.

I'll start:

What if Aerosmith had been wiped out in that plane crash (they had checked out the same plane) in '77, rather than Skynyrd?

Then Run DMC would have had a cross-over hit a few years later with "Sweet Home Alabama", a duet with Skynyrd that would have moved race relations in this country forward far more that the struggles of the Civil Rights Movement.

What would have happened if Richard Thompson had accepted the job offer with the Eagles in the mid-seventies?

We'd be up to Funk 127 by now.

What if Crespo and Dufay after joining Aerosmith, proved to make even better songs with Aerosmith than Perry and Tyler at their best?

Fans of the original (classic) band would be arguing on the Internet with fans of the new version. Much like we have with Van Halen.

Nothing much. The Stones would have continued to drift through the seventies, the Faces would have fallen apart anyway as Rod Stewart's solo career took off, and Woody probably would have wound up as an unreliable sideman for a succession of unmemorable "reunited" 60s bands.

What IF Ozzy had never bit the head off of anything?

Randy Rhoads would still be alive, and the world would have been spared The Osbournes, along with all of Ozzy's ghastly nineties/2000s albums.

What if Ozzy had bit the head off of Sharon?

Or at least made sure that she was taking a joyride on that plane in March 1982, and not Randy.

Sharon did say Ozzy came in drunk and said,"We have decided you have to go." Then he proceeded to strangle her. She got to the panic button on the phone and security came. I wonder who "they" were? The band? Demons? The fans?

There would be no Hag bio and there wouldn't be terms like Sammymath.
The VH albums would still be very short but potent guitar based power. The several ballad songs per album momentum they had would have been cut obviously from the finished product and sold to Journey and later Aerosmith. :)

And if Ozzy never bit the head off anything we wouldn't have that amazing picture of a drunken, cross-eyed Ozzy after conquering a dove's head in the sony records conference room with feathers, blood and a horrified group of execs. Couldn't they understand Ozzy was just demonstrating his entertainer's ability of controlling a room?

What if drugs and alcohol wasn't an issue with all these talented people in bands who met with an early death in bands we loved?
All the people we lost would still be alive but would the music still have had the same edge?

Then Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, et all would have run out of steam and been forgotten about by 1980. The rest would have joined Whitesnake.

The Stones would have really been the world's greatest rock band !! Instead they hired the Wood and he really has brought nothing to the band in 30 years. Rory Gallagher was first choice and it would have been a great one, but he bailed after Mick & Keith were acting weird when he went to meet with them about joining. They should still get Taylor back !!

Well, it's a good sign that Taylor has always been willing to work with the Stones when the opportunity comes up. He worked with them on John Phillips album which was done about a year or two after he left the band. Woody played on Mick Taylor's solo album in 1979. Taylor showed up at a Stones gig in Kansas City on the 1981 tour, and he played on Keith's solo album "Talk is Cheap" in 1988. And of course, he came back and touched up some guitar parts for the "new" tracks on the Exile on Main Street remaster last year.

So I've always had a good feeling that, whenever the Stones finally decide to do their final tour, Mick Taylor will be on stage with them. Hopefully Bill Wyman too.

Queen would have never existed, and possibly Brian May & Roger Taylor would have been in a band with Paul Rodgers in the first place. So no Bohemian Rhapsody, but the Bad Company records might have sounded better.

"Back in black" (or whatever their next album is called) is still a massive smash and the band release a stream of albums as good, due to better lyrics and original ideas.

Brian Johnson is "discovered" by Black Sabbath in 1983 to replace RJD.

And to further answer that, Grunge/Alt. would have found a way to break into the mainstream regardless. It was already leaking in the late 80's with Sonic Youth and Janes Addiction, was really only a mattter of time.

"Back in Black" would have sounded perfect as far as I'm concerned - never could stand B. Johnson's voice.
But there wouldn't have been any "Hell's Bells", unless the tune was already ready before Bon Scott passed away (?) -
or it would have been about John Bonham's death.
Oddly enough, AC/DC would have made much more solid records, but would have sold less than they did from 1981 onward...

What if John Bonham hadn't choked in his puke in 1980?

Or maybe [I]instead of{/I] Randy?...

WITH Randy: Ozzy would have gone leaving a much better memory than he will when he dies from now on... His career wouldn't have been spoilt with the 1983 and onward weaker and weaker albums he then delivered.

INSTEAD OF Randy Rhoads: Rhoads would have had an awesome career, who would he have played with?

The album "Police State" would have been released in 2010 with Bono on Lead Vocals and Bonham Junior on drums as Stewert is on Death Row for asphyxiating Gordon Sumner by stuffing 6 drumsticks down his neck.

They would probably have reached cult status, but not to the same extent as Nirvana did, not that they wouldn't have desserved it,
but they would have missed another album, and Nirvana was more listenable for non-metal ears.

What if HENDRIX hadn't died? How would he have reacted musically in 1978 when Van Halen delivered VH I ?

If Hendrix hadn't died, he likely would have continued moving toward the new direction he was pursuing shortly before he died, slowly dropping the freak-out stage theatrics from his performances combined with playing fewer gigs and concentrating more on the writing and recording process. Had all of that come to pass, by the time Van Halen came onto the scene Hendrix wouldn't have given much thought to being displaced as the King Of Shit Hot Licks because his focus would have been on crafting songs and sounds.
