Okay, so you're FAT, overpaid, boring and rip off your (former) band for nostalgic prestige. But you still have that million dollar smile.

...and you make me a hypocrite because while I think Pink Floyd was by far the worst thing to ever to music making it something people want to place a nickle-plated revolver to their temple I just LOVE your first album.

It's trippy druggy and innovative. The beautifully crafted 'Raise My Rent' you know, you can fuck to that tune, Davey boy, and then 'Cry From The Street' with the simple power chordal structure, the cultic (and haunting) 'There's No Way Out Of Here' complete with tightly woven background vocals and 'Milhalis' which is just guitar glitter gloating! So, what happened, Dave? What went wrong? Was it because this record was a commercial flop? Was it you were more interested in the money? The whole god damn Pink Floyd phenomenon that blinded your way? Are you angry, bored, listless with your former band mate Rodger and his whole how he was bullied for writing shit poetry and his dead father dying in the war stories? Dave you can do better! In fact, you have done better. We'll always have your first record as a cherished memory. Always.

About the only thing I remember clearly from that time was that it snowed in Florida the year before, and the Skynyrd plane crash a few months later.

I figured all the Floyd fans would grab it.

It was pre-Wall Floyd. And it's a decent record for somehow Gilmour left his ego at home during the recording sessions.

Man, i have such fond memories of listening to Dark Side and The Wall and just getting baked to the gills. I didn't care for the Final Cut at all and thought it was pretty depressing. I actually like a lot of moments from Momentary Lapse and Division Bell. The latter 2 are not great Floyd records but they aren't chopped liver either. I don't get the throwing stones at Floyd. I think of them as legends that had a good body of work - great at times, good at times and very little of low quality.

I liked his second solo album . I think it was " About Face" . Beautiful Fretless bass solo by Pino Palladino on "Murder"

No question.... Pink Floyd did not exist without Roger Waters. Gilmour is a brilliant guitarist, but not all that great of a songwriter on his own, and putting out his solo albums under the name of "Pink Floyd" (because the first two didn't sell) was ridiculous.

I can think of maybe a total of 4 Fake Floyd songs that were memorable.

You probably heard the single "There's No Way Out Of Here" on the radio though (at least it gets airplay on the classic rock stations around here). It's a decent song that would fit right into any of the Floyd albums in the mid 70's. Or had Gilmour not recorded it when he did, it might have become part of "The Wall" (I've heard that Gilmour actually wrote part of "Comfortably Numb" while making that solo album, though obviously it became a totally different thing once Waters got a hold of it.)

I like it when Kristy speaks her mind.

I really can't stand Pink Floyd - I'm not saying they're no good (far from it) but way, way too indirect for me personally. Consequently, I've never really indulged in their solo work. On the strength of this thread I might.

Meh.

No use for Floyd post-The Wall, save for a few tracks from The Final Cut.

A Momentary Lapse Of Reason and The Division Bell even on their own merits aren't very strong records, never mind compared to what Floyd put out in the 1970s when they were at their apex, and that's a valid comparison to make because Gilmour was essentially trying to pull a Waters in terms of lyrics, delivery and structure on Lapse and Bell.

Gilmour's solo stuff was solid. I mean, yes it was a bit cowardly in one sense for him to release material and tour under the Floyd name after Waters quit (and it would have been just as cowardly had Waters done the same thing). The commerical potential and ticketbuying appeal was probably too much for Glimour to resist. I'd like to think were I in the same situation I wouldn't have done the same thing, but I probably would have as well. The fact that Waters was no longer there hardly stopped people from going to the late 1980s / early 1990s "Pink Floyd" concerts in droves, did it?
